If I get to the airport to catch an international flight and find that I've forgotten to bring my passport, can I also throw a hissy fit and scream 'Liberty lost' to the check-in staff?

Vaccine certificates to travel are a reasonable and practical requirement.
Vaccine certificates to socialise? Nope. It disenfranchises too many people. I want everyone who can to be vaccinated, but I am against forcing any consenting adult to be vaccinated.
Luddite
In the UK? Like what? You seem to be equating proof of age with proof of ID, these are two separate issues. If you look underage then you may be asked for some kind of proof of age but generally most people aren’t asked to produce ID to buy certain age restricted goods and services. In the UK citizens are not obliged to carry ID and there are no call for ID cards because no one wants them. I haven’t been asked for proof of age (as opposed to ID which is completely different issue) for 40 years.
Haaa Nemui
Yeah for domestic use it’s too much.

Don't many schools already require children to be vaccinated before entering school? (Not covid, but for DPT)

Of course you need ID, usually your passport or driving licence, to fly domestically. A driving licence is ostensibly proof you are legally allowed to drive certain vehicles, not a form of ID, although it can be used as such.
You’ve not been there for a while then.
No British citizen is legally obliged to carry ID unless they are doing something that legally requires it, like a passport for travel. I don’t carry any, never been asked unless I am flying. I have never been asked for ID when making a credit card purchase of any kind. Maybe you look dodgy.

Force citizens to “show their papers” or be denied their basic rights. But have no problem demagoguing when illegal immigrants are asked to “ show their papers”. The normal hypocrisy.

That's the vaccine distribution.
You see, I have contracted passport dementia.
Antiquesaving
Why does this constantly have to be repeated.
This in not a virus like the measles.
It is more like the flu and like the flu it will mostly need regular boosters and like the flu those boosters will need tweeking annually to account for mutations (AKA Variants).
The vaccines work as expected, it is our immune system and the way it handles RNA viruses means it is more than likely never going to be a once in a lifetime Vaccine.
Bob Fosse
Dunno. I’ll cross that bridge when I come to it.
How far back in history will you have to go to reach your ideal freedom?
Bob Fosse
Exactly. It’s advertised as safer than not taking it. So take it.
bob
Literally makes zero sense.
But enjoy the passports, fans.
"Sorry, sir, you can't fly today because your passport here says you haven't been vaccinated against the latest variant out of Timbuktu"

China will have a black market for fake documents, passports, and/or fake vaccines to get their people and anyone desperate enough into various countries!

The problem in most things is not know facts and history.
Oddly enough being able to travel outside ones country without Vaccine certain is fairly new.
I am in my 50s and I still have my old "yellow card" or international Vaccine certificate which was still required until smallpox was eliminated and vaccination became fully available around the world.
This in nothing new and once covid Vaccine is in full use or the disease is eliminated the need for Vaccine certain will go once again.

This is another potential sure-fire mis-mash of mismanagement.
Hell’s teeth, make your mind up.
To passport or not the passport, o dithering Johnson, 'tis nobler in the mind to suffer the slings and arrows of outrageous fortune, or to take arms against a sea of troubles, And, by opposing, end them?”
Or something along those lines.
Johnson is a fairy cloud of uncertainly. A traffic light to a remote and not descript policy.
Cabinet minister Michael Gove, who has led the task force responsible for drawing up the plans, acknowledged that vaccine passports raised “a host of practical and ethical questions” which needed to be resolved before any wider rollout.
Johnson did well on the vaccine passport, saved elder UK family members lives.
I can’t get past Johnson, so Panto, all the year round.
Oh, no it isn’t. Oh, yes, it is!

You obviously haven’t been to Australia or Europe recently.
there is no point anymore. Just give up. It’s not so bad. Line up nicely and follow the loudspeakers.
The Great Reset promises we never have to own land again, guaranteed designated employment, nutritious 3D printed food. Doesn’t sound so bad...

As I have pointed out so many times before a travel documents for Vaccines has been available for decades.
International Certificate of Vaccination or Prophylaxis
It is still in use for travel to certain countries and is available in Japan as well as nearly every country in the world.
Updating it and adding covid Vaccine wouldn't be a big deal.
In the end each country will do what it wants and if traveling to that country we will have to accept their rules.
Japan now requires a valid negative covid test 72 hours prior to leaving for Japan.
Japan has already stated it will be joining the EU and China in requiring Vaccine certification to enter or re-enter the country.
So if we want to go visit family or take a vacation and by chance our destination doesn't require Vaccine certification, returning to Japan will be a non starter if one is not vaccinated.

If you don’t know where to draw the line, how do you know when it’s been crossed? Might find yourself in a situation you wish you weren’t in. By then it’s too late.
JapanJim
A better idea than covid passports is a implanted microchip. No need to carry anything with you as it is always there and can be updated to carry emergency information, passport information, medical history, and any restrictions, All authorizations seamlessly carried and controlled by the governmental authorities.
anon99999
Vaccinations optional but without them you won't be able to go anywhere. Mandatory cellphones and tracking apps etc to be able to have your covid passport. Welcome to the new world. Governments, tech companies and Big Pharma rejoicing, along with the sheep mindlessly following them.
Gooch
For everyone who supports a vaccine passport, where do you draw the line? What will you accept, what is a bridge too far?
HimariYamada
I don't see much social distance in the picture. No one is wearing a mask.
bob
Anyone warning of this just months ago were ridiculed as flat-earthers.
Enjoy the slippery slope, people. You're picking up speed now..
Goodlucktoyou
If they are proven by long term studies, available to all, and the growing numbers of vaccine death families can sue the governments and companies, Good idea on paper.
I have a yellow fever, Japanese encephalitis and Hep B certificate. But it is a stamped piece of paper, not a collection of all my private information totally unrelated to the fact I had a jab.
Bob Fosse
Who is ‘you’? Are you exempt? Why so gleeful about it? What will you do to fight this? Take the red pill?
Antiquesaving
Never seen any place accept proof of age that wasn't also proof of ID!
As for the rest, guess in the UK you can board a domestic flight no ID, drive a car no ID!
I have lived in the UK as do some of my family,
Everyone for the most part carries some form of ID.
This "we are not obligated to carry ID" thing is hilarious, as even in the UK I was asked for photo ID to confirm a credit card purchase, no ID no sale.
Bob Fosse
It seems like you are enjoying the slippery slope more than anyone else.
Haaa Nemui
Those opposed are the ones creating the issue. If a vaccine passport is required to go to a specific place, sure, don’t go and there won’t be an issue.
Antiquesaving
First let call it what it is Vaccine certificates it is not a passport.
I have no problem with the idea of a vaccine certification. I do however have a problem with how some places like Japan plan on issuing them requiring it be added to the tracking App, I see no reason for this.
It seems so many countries are taking the sledgehammer and fly approach, by creating unnecessary Apps.
My 80 plus years old parents my children's 90 plus years old Japanese grandparents don't have smartphones.
In most developed countries they have national healthcare with a health services card most with IC chip just add the info to those, they could also do the same with drivers licenses.
Apps need updating, fail, need new phone if app or phone fail you have a problem.
Keep it simple use what is already available.
Antiquesaving
Again all the over the top silly stuff like "why not I'd chip us" etc...
So no problem asking ID in bars, no problem requiring ID/drivers license when driving, no problem requiring ID to board a flight, using a credit card, going to the doctor presenting your insurance card, and pretty much everything in life.
But ask to show you had a Vaccine well that is way to much that is totalitarian.
You people are funny.
Antiquesaving
It is funny.
If we go into drinking venues in most countries you are or can be asked for photo ID to prove your age, never seen anyone complaining about that!
So now in such places a vaccine certification with age will do the same.
Great for people like my children that don't have a driver's license band need to carry their passports as ID.
Japan this may be rare but in other countries it is common along with asking for a photo ID when using a credit card ( found that out on a business trip years ago to the USA where every place asked for any purchase over $10).
Driving a car, taking a plane, even getting into most music festivals ( often 18 and over) you present ID.
But this is to much! People really just like to complain for no reason.
Alex
Don’t see why the majority of people who will do the right thing and get vaccinated need to appease the minority . Don’t get vaccinated then no one is forcing you .
Antiquesaving
I in someway agree but let's look at it in another way.
If these same people show up at and 18 and over event without ID they will be refused entry, correct?
So then not having ID or an acceptable ID then disenfranchises them.
My children don't drive have no driver's license, Japanese health insurance cards have no photo, so when we planned on going to a music festival some time back that was 18 and older their only choice was to go get a valid passport.
My point is simple, a lot of activities required ID to participate saying this is any big difference is making it far more than it is.
Now a simple photo health insurance card with IC chip and a check mark noting vaccination would simplify everything including when ID is required to enter certain age restriction venues or even as ID for domestic air travel.
JeffLee
I really dont understand the fuss. Health certificates have long been sandard globally. I needed a doctor's clean bill of health when applying for my Japanese working holiday visa. Many countries used to refuse travelers and immigrants who couldn't prove they were HIV-free in the 80s and 90s. It was hardly an "ethical" issue.
Covid vaccine passports? -- bring 'em on. I want to travel!
Strangerland
I like Covid passports for the same reason I like Bitcoin - no matter how much it infuriates some, they’re coming anyways. Hate all you want, you’ll only be left behind.
