Only Non-Europeans? What kind of racist society is this!? The Brits once again show the world just how intolerant they truly are!!
PeaceWarrior
@mikehuntez
Not racist, it is not a matter of race at all. Reading the whole article reveals this:
My guess is that a lot of the things they are implementing would make some people in Arizona really happy.
TimRussert
What does the state of Arizona have to do with the nation of England ("head" of the entire Commonwealth) and the EU?
I really don't see the link. The measures taken by Arizona were to combat unfettered illegal immigration, of the kind that has made Phoenix the kidnapping capital of N America.
PeaceWarrior
Any immigration control would make them happy, Tim. But that's kind of off topic, you are right.
And I can tell you of studies that demonstrate clearly that areas with high immigration levels (legal or illegal) are not 'more' dangerous that other areas. But that would also be off topic.
Mike's point was one of racism and it is clearly not the case. Any immigration control tightening the influx of people from south of the border (legal or otherwise), would make people of Arizona really happy, just my opinion.
How about you Tim, what would make you happy?

I guess no Japanese will be moving there.

I am not a British citizen. I suppose my only hope is that it is laws and not special privileged groups who win in this case. The Left has much to answer for here - - the quote from last year about how the real aim of Labour Party policy on the issue was to 'rub the Right's nose in diversity' should not be forgotten.

Long overdue and really a bit too late for London.
PeaceWarrior
Neither am I. I can, however, use their embassies and consulate offices for some services. I wonder if people from Commonwealth countries will be treated differently.
I am all for securing borders but the following quote is a little too much, I think.
The stringent visa checks for educational institutions should have been implemented already.
trulymadlyfukai
Too late Britain, that horse bolted years ago.

It is not racist - the UK has no control over immigration from EU member states. Therefore the only immigration it CAN control is non-EU.
The article is very irresponsible in using the term "non-European" when it should use the term "non-EU".
The article is however correct is saying that the study visa programme is suspected of being abused.

EU member countries get preference for UK visas, what about member nations of the commonwealth? Is the UK dumping these citizens on their asses? Time the commonwealth nations dumped this poncey bunch of nitwits, who in their right mind would want to immigrate to the UK anyway? I guess only people who come from 3rd world countries from what i saw on my previous two trips to this old crumbling dump of a country!! Close the door england your shite stinks anyway ..
WilliB
Too little too late. And once Turkey joins the EU, the floodgates are open in any case.
xpompey8
Very good point Mayuki.
By reducing or making it more difficult for prospective immigrants, they will do harm to their own economy. For example, a lot of their universities rely on international students, or shall I say profit on them. They should at least consider the economic impact before anything else....unless they already concluded the reduced expenses on social services, who knows..

According to the article you have presumably just read it was 196,000 people last year - 3rd para, last line.
chotto
From one extreme to the other. Utterly, utterly useless system.
SuperLib
This is all George Bush's fault.

Yes Soochi so there were 196,000 immigrants last year - and not 1 of them in their right mind - All nutters!!

If only people did not have to immigrate to foreign lands...If only they could live in the land they were born and bred in....the world would be a better place. It is not easy when people from differenrt cultures have to adapt new cultures, language etc...
Instead of letting people immigrate, these countries should have a system to sponsor poor and unfortunate so that they can continue to live in their own lands.
dontpanic
The UK is asking for nothing from anyone but those that want to live in the UK. Its not ciltural imperialism, it's common sense. To speak the language of the country you want to spend your life in will help keep people from being isolated from mainstream society. UK local authorities even provide free language, basic literacy and maths classes for newcomers.
cleo
No it wouldn't. It's people moving around and mixing with other people that makes the world dynamic. Every person who brings a different culture into a society helps enrich that society a little.
Jkanda
Diversity is wonderful. I am thinking about the ones who come from less fortunate countries. Some of them do not even have the basic education. Then when they have to learn another language and to adapt to the customs of the adopted country. Feel that it is kind of hard.
