Maybe a nice gesture to create an equally green and leafy park somewhere nearby, using an empty building or lot. Sad to see it go.

Staff working at the emergency services (NHS/Police/Fire) haven't had a decent pay rise in years, so its very nice to see the government prioritises £100 million for a memorial instead.
