I doubt the Kremlin has the ability to reflect on what they have done and doubt they would say the invasion has been a 'failure', given the Kremlin and Putin's personal history as a propagandist I assume the Russian leaders see as a success the destruction of cities and apartment buildings, and the deaths of thousands of civilians including women, children, the elderly and others physically unable to flee. Russia is the globe's sickest nation, led by Putin, who's shown he's a mad individual and the equally mad individuals in the Kremlin. These sick people are aided in their propaganda wars by 'useful idiots' around the globe, still claiming Putin is 'smart' and 'strong'. They say that the problem is the Ukrainians who want to protect their sovereign nation, not the Russians that invaded. And they say refuse to say Russia was the warmonger. But these pro-Russia, right wing extremists appear to be a global minority.

I continue to be amazed by the Ukrainian people. Their courage, resolve and commitment is extraordinary.

I only wish the civilian population wouldn't be killed, injured and abused as they are. It's hard to watch.

My thoughts are with the Ukrainian people, military and civilian, and all those who are working to provide assistance and support.

This is a terrible tragedy. Ukranians are dying every day. No amount of Russian "justification" will change my mind.

The Russian military said Thursday that a total of 1,160 Ukrainian marines surrendered this week, a claim that couldn't be independently verified.

The Russian figures couldn't be independently verified..... BUT the Ukrainian version is fully reported without such caveats.... This tells you all you need to know about this report. BTW Lviv is 1,300 km away from Mariupol, so the reporter is not exactly "on the ground".

Mr. Kipling - out of all of the things in this article (and there are many) to be upset about, this is what did it for you? Maybe the Russian claims take a little longer to verify because there aren't as many reliable, independent (non-Russian) sources embedded on that side of front lines? The truth will come out eventually, and it sounds like the ~1k Marines figure may not be far off.

It would be nice to think those who had posted unreliable (at best, often flat out disinformation) during the pandemic were not able to be more concerned about the veracity of their posts then.

As an armchair strategist I'm waiting for the Ukrainians to give the Russians another black eye by bombing the pride of Russian engineering, making the Kerch Bridge, Russia's (and Europe's) longest into its shortest. It would be amusing to see how Kremlin gaslighters would spin that blow to a strategically important bridge for Crimea (which Ukrainians won't need if they kick the Russians out of the occupied Crimean Peninsula).

I think Putin expected to just roll into Ukraine with little opposition, and that the people in the eastern parts would welcome his troops as liberators. None of his advisors took the risk of telling him he was full of it.

Now he's scaled back his goal to just taking the eastern Donbas section and Mariupol to open a bridge to Crimea. He doesn't mind if all the people who lived there are wiped out and the city totally destroyed.

Putin has gone back to full-on Stalin style dictatorship, complete with purges of the military and brutal suppression of the people in Russia.

But, as a writer, I can imagine and daily observe in a journal. A woman I was fond of was killed outside Kyiv, on Putin's First Massacre. I am not happy.

Not just that, a French volunteer returning to France was interviewed saying basically the US is in charge of all the fighting. Not surprising really as they’ve been training and supplying Ukraine since 2014, and yes, supplying and training neo-nazis as well. Fight them now while they’re weak or fight them later when they’re stronger, war in Ukraine was inevitable. Last time I checked, Putin wasn’t training and arming any armies in Mexico or Canada or making plans to put offensive missile weaponry there. Invasions don’t happen in a vacuum.

2500 and 3000 Ukrainian soldiers died in Battle,so and 10000 injuries,that almost 5000 injuries a month and 60 killed in day ,this unsubstainable
