Tactical nukes are ill suited for this type of war.

Considering the technical expertise required, something both more practical and lethal should suffice, shouldn’t it?

Lets see countries like Canada have pledged over $1 billion to Ukraine.
The EU, UK and USA, more but Turkey and Syria 12,000 dead Canada has pledged $10 million.
Oddly enough finding the monetary amount of official aid from UK US EU is not as easy as their constant pointing out what they are giving to Ukraine.
Sorry Zelensky but perhaps some money for other places, like Turkey, Syria, large parts of Africa.

President Volodymyr Zelenskyy is now in Paris meeting with Macron.
ok1517
Wallace,
Macron and surprise Scholz.
The man finally decided which sidehe is standing on when he first stepped up to the Ukrainian flag!
Now, give more support to Ukraine - provide Ukraine with what they need to end this insane aggressor's war.
Enable Ukraine to free all occupied areas, including but not limited to Crimea.
At least make it a "ring-exchange" - give them RuSSian fighter jets still available in many countries in exchange for western jets, thus reducing (or even eliminating) training time.
Ukraine prevails!

Poland has already transferred MiG-29s to Ukraine, calling them spare wings and fuselages for their existing fleet of MiGs. The Polish MiGs have more advanced cockpits with some western equipment added. Slovakia is making plans to send their MiG-29s to Ukraine.

I'm wondering what the Brits will train the Ukrainians on, their surplus Tornados or their current fleet of Typhoons.
One thing that has so far surprised me is that no western nation has offered combat helicopters like Cobras, Tigers or Apaches. I would think these are as valuable as modern tanks.

Meanwhile, a peek into the mentality of those who surround Mr. Putin:

No word on whether or not is demon spawn ever joined the war.

Herr Scholz was bitten by a surprising and unexpected "Free the Leopards" social media campaign and polling indicating some 75% of German adults favored supporting Ukraine with the tanks.

I’m not a fan of the royals, but if you’re begging the pm for jets, which they don’t have a lot to spare, can’t you at least dress up in something nicer than a sweatshirt when you’re meeting the king?
ok1517
Gaijinjland,
did you see what others were wearing years ago?
They also wore uniforms (Churchill f.ex. did and nobody complained)
No PUTAin suit needed - President Zelenskyy is on a working visit!

DT - lol at the headline in that linked article:
Desert Tortoise
Did you read the whole article? Here is the quote that almost made me spit out my lunch earlier today.
"I have repeatedly stated that the fight against Satanism should continue throughout Europe and, first of all, on the territory of Poland,"
He expects the war to be over in Ukraine by the end of 2023 (he might be right, but not for the reasons he thinks). And this one is even better:
"European countries will admit they have been wrong, the West will fall to its knees, and, as usual, European countries will have to cooperate with the Russian Federation in all spheres. There should not and will never be an alternative to that,"
Dude is delusional. But this is the stuff Vladimir Putin is hearing from those close to him.
Desert Tortoise
Mr. Zelenskyii is more of a man than Squishy Rishi will ever be. He's leading his nation in a war against Russia. He doesn't need to wear a fancy suit like his rich tosser counterpart from UK.
UChosePoorly
DT - yes, I did. Dangerous to underestimate your opponents and this guy appears to be doing so.
Nemo
DT,
I would be interested to hear your take on the possible acquisition of Gripen Saabs from Sweden.
My understanding is that they are lower cost, lower cost to fly, somewhat simpler to maintain 4th gen fighters with NATO interoperability.
I also understand that the combat radius is smaller owing to the desginers intent to defend Swedish territory, but that would seem to make them almost ideal to Ukarine's needs.
If I am mistaken, I would be greatful for a correction or any additional insights.
Thank you in advance.
Blacklabel
yeah what could possibly go wrong there with that capability. /s
In the Beningging
You can't talk "peace" and have a gun.
UChosePoorly
Blacklabel - Things will go wrong for Russia. Very wrong.
They thought they could escape accountability by moving their critical assets and locations out of range, but our reach is getting longer and should soon cover all of Ukraine. (from NYE below)

In the Beningging
dont make tactical nukes as an option. because that is what everyone is avoiding thats why the war takes this long enough. if you put nukes on the list. we already know the outcome. because Ukraine has no nukes to put on. if someone from other countries give them nukes, that country will be held accountable by Russia.
UChosePoorly
@ In the Beningging - I agree completely! What was Russia thinking when they sent their military to Ukraine?
Texas A&M Aggie
Before dispatching jets, Zelenskyy must demand that ground troops (the more the better) from all NATO nations be sent to his country.
Blacklabel
And Crimea, which was my emphasis.
They would have now the ability to accidentally missile attack their own people within Ukraine, that’s not good.
Also now taking back Crimea by force is part of the desired resolution of this too?
UChosePoorly
Crimea is Ukraine.
wallace
Zelensky"s country is at war defending against the Russian invader. He is wearing the right dress for what is happening.
Blacklabel
So this isn’t done even when Russia is gone out of Ukraine?
then we have to arm and pay for Crimea invasion too? Then regime change in Russia?
does this ever end?
UChosePoorly
Again, Blacklabel - Crimea is Ukraine. It is not Russia.
Nemo
Crimea is Ukraine as recognized by everyone not Russia.
This ends when the Russians decide to stop their invasion and go back to their side of the border.
An easy (and obvious) answer to a simplistic question.
Blacklabel
So Russia now has to also leave Crimea too before this ends?
thats news.
meanwhile Joe says it’s already done. Putin already lost. Something about counting chickens comes to mind.
https://thehill.com/homenews/administration/3850412-biden-says-putin-already-lost-ukraine/
Blacklabel
Why would Russia “roll into” Belarus, Joe?
he also laughed at people who said American tax payer money should be spent on Americans.
UChosePoorly
Blacklabel - That's a question for the Ukrainians, but all indications are that they would like all of their territory back, and we will help them to send the invaders home. I thought you were a tough-on-crime kinda guy. Odd that you aren't that eager to help Ukraine get their stolen territory back.
Cards fan
Lol Yes, let's not arm Ukraine with missiles, because they might accidentally attack their own people. It's far better to do nothing and let the Russian military continue to shell civilians, accidental or otherwise. We're really scraping the bottom of the barrel here with these excuses. Lol
Invade? No. Taking back their own land. This is nothing new.
ok1517
Black,
the international community with very few exceptions (like NK) confirm that according to international law Crimea is Ukraine. To make it clear and easy to understand, please read this:
"The official results of an internationally unrecognized referendum held during the occupation indicated support for Russian annexation,[4] and the Russian-backed[5][6] Crimean parliament unilaterally declared independence from Ukraine. Russia then annexed the region and created two federal subjects, the Republic of Crimea (as a republic) and Sevastopol (as a federal city). A United Nations General Assembly resolution declared the referendum invalid and affirmed the territorial integrity of Ukraine.
(From Wikipedia)
Ukraine prevails!
Blacklabel
Yeah look forward to your explanation then about how it’s “stlll not Ukraines fault” like when they killed people in Poland with their missile.
UChosePoorly
Blacklabel - If I break into your house, you shoot at me and miss and accidentally hit someone in your own family, they are gonna stack that charge on me, not on you.
Look, we all know where you stand on this topic, but we also know that you understand the issues at hand as well. They aren't that hard to grasp and you don't come off as unintelligent.
UChosePoorly
Lol, this statement isn't incorrect, but we aren't talking ancient history - this was less than 10 years ago, and Crimea is still legally Ukraine. Who recognizes Crimea as part of Russia? Not many countries do. Crimea is Ukraine.
Blacklabel
But there was an election that says it’s not. Denying election results is baaaaad.
if it’s really not, why 10 years later has it suddenly become an issue?
if someone steals my car I don’t take the bus for 10 years then suddenly file a theft report and go looking for my car.
UChosePoorly
What are you talking about? You can't just roll into someone's territory, hold elections, and then complain when someone wants to take their land back.
Ukraine never ceded the land to Russia. Russia just took it. Ukraine will take it back.
Desert Tortoise
The original version of Gripen did have a short range but Gripen E has a much greater fuel capacity and heavier payload. It is a great airplane. During the Cold War Swedish combat jets had all metric gauges and were not in any way compatible with ICAO standards or NATO compatible. It was a difficulty for them when the Swedish Air Force first started showing up for exercises with NATO in their Viggens and early Gripens.
SAAB worked with BAE to bring the Gripen up to NATO standards. In some cases it was more a case of degrading the Gripen to NATO standards. Sweden had some stuff that was more advanced than anything in NATO or the USSR. Way out there capabilities for ground radars to guide missiles fired from airplanes, or for cooperative engagement where one airplane would use its radar to guide the missiles of several other fighters that were running EMCON. They used advanced, secure data links to relay the necessary information.
UChosePoorly
If by 'support anything they want' means helping to kick the invaders out, then I guess you are right. If Ukraine all of a sudden decided that parts of Hungary were looking tasty and they wanted to annex them unilaterally, we wouldn't be supporting that.
UChosePoorly
It also hasn't 'suddenly become an issue'. Ukraine has been fighting against Russia and their separatist allies trying to get their land back for that long as well. Thousands of Ukrainians died before Russia expanded the conflict a year ago.
Cards fan
Lol there was an election that Russia sponsored and only the likes of Syria, and North Korea respect the results. Tell me more about how legitimate the results of the election were. :)
It's always been an issue. The complicating factor, is how to address it. Should the west have been shipping arms to Ukraine to take back their land when Crimea was annexed?
What a strange way to talk about Ukraine receiving weapons so they can remain a free and independent country.
Blacklabel
Ok i can give you an upvote for that, that has been the case if we look at it fairly.
Its just the demands are already tiring and never ending.
Now we have to pay for and arm Ukraine to invade and take back Crimea by force too?
Seriously? this wont be over during this decade and people are already tired of it.
Change in US President and cutting off the money and the arms is the only way this ends in 2025.
Nemo
DT,
Thank you for the update. I appreciate it.
I would like to ask for your take on the wisdom of the Saab vs. the F-16 in terms of possible suitability for the UA AF in terms of mission capability, logistics and ease of introduction.
Again, thank you in advance.
Olegek
Sorry you just have not the full info
Ukraine lost a huge amount of soldiers.
about a quarter of a million
Russian losses relatively small
Here the problem.
UChosePoorly
Olegek - I hope you aren't referring to that bit of disinfo 'leaked by Mossad' that somehow found it's way to all kinds of new/fake online aggregators in various countries, and even mistakenly retweeted by Elon Musk? Nobody in the West, well, almost nobody, is buying that garbage. How many losses do you think are relatively small?
UChosePoorly
Russian disinfo may work on you guys, but it doesn't work as well in the West, with the possible exception of MAGA.
diagonalslip
well, Fidel always wore combats and the like, saving his people from a dictator..... and then he became one.
