I agree, Putin and the Kremlin's warmongering will most likely spread into the former SSR's, and who knows where all else beyond them. The Arctic region seems to be another area Putin and the Kremlin want to conquer, then of course there are the oil/gas rich Gulf states, which the west, especially the UK and US have long been involved in militarily and financially. Wars for gas/oil and resources can be lessened by finding ways to reduce nation's reliance on burning such huge amounts of oil and gas. Putin's Russia just want to carry on the predatory capitalistic approaches taken by western nations. The global reliance on burning huge amounts of planet damaging fossil fuels, instead of developing alternative ways to generate power is, to me, another example of a failure of global capitalism.

But if it's a done deal, was it worth the price? How many Russian citizens died so Putin and the Kremlin can say, look how much more territory we have, and how much richer Putin and the oligarchs might be able to get. How is conquering Ukraine going to help the Russian citizens at the lower end of their homeland's wealth spectrum? Or in the Russian brand of national socialism, are those at the lower end of no concern? Then why would a new imperium led by Russia be an improvement over the current global powers?

Russia has lost about 30,000 soldiers killed (not to mention the number wounded) in the three months since it invaded. That's about 330 per day, a number not likely to drop given Ukraine's new weaponry.

I can see why Finland's president was visibly trembling and mixing his words when he announced Finland would end its neutrality and hop onto the NATO bandwagon.

Well top of their to do list was take Kiev and execute Zelensky. They don't seem to be ticking of that to do list any time soon.

They would also like to cut Ukraine from the sea. Let's see how far they get in capturing Odesa. I'm guessing the fact that Putin can't pay his soldiers will have a negative impact of morale.

Civilians think strategy; generals think logistics

Logistically, it's easier for Russia to supply its short lines in southeast Ukraine - it's closer to Russia and Russian-annexed Donbas and Crimea, while they can keep their supply depots behind the Russian border, where Ukraine is not allowed to attack. While Ukrainian supply lines have to go much farther coming from western Ukraine, and those can be attacked by Russia inside Ukraine. Imagine if Ukraine is allowed to attack those supply depots just behind the Russian border

It's the opposite in the north Ukraine and around Kyiv. Remember those bogged-down 40-km Russian supply lines trying to surround Kyiv? Those were easy pickings for the Ukrainian forces, once they knew where those were. That's why Russia gave up on trying to take Kyiv and propping up a puppet government. They don't have enough to take Kyiv anymore - nor the whole of Ukraine for that matter, with the amount of losses they already suffered. (Unless they introduce a conscription draft and war economy - but they won't do that since that's admitting to their people that it's not just a "special operation" anymore but a full-blown war)

So Kyiv and the rest of Ukraine are pretty much out of their reach now - the further they go inside Ukraine, the farther away they go from Russia's borders, and the longer their supply lines are stretched, while Ukrainian lines get shorter. That's why their best bet is just concentrating on the southeast, where their logistics are not so complicated
