in areas where there could be concentrations of civilians.

But Putin's armies, including the Wagners, have not shown any consideration for areas where there could be 'concentrations of civilians', instead areas where there are concentrations of civilians have often been the Russian's main targets. Russia take your baby-killing invaders back to their homes in actual Russian territory.

The Kinzhal is one of the latest and most advanced Russian weapons. The Russian military says the air-launched ballistic missile has a range of up to 2,000 kilometers (about 1,250 miles) and flies at 10 times the speed of sound, making it hard to intercept.

“They were saying that the Patriot is an outdated American weapon, and Russian weapons are the best in the world," Air Force spokesman Yurii Ihnat said on Ukraine's Channel 24 television. "Well, there is confirmation that it effectively works against even a super-hypersonic missile.” Ihnat said.

Seems it's not as invincible as once thought, when a current system could still nullify it. (Wonder if the Russian missile intercept system couldn't intercept it since they thought it was that hard to intercept?)

That's about on par what the war in Ukraine has been proving - that the "large, modern" Russian military isn't as large nor as modern as they claim (even the Wagner Group blasting the Russian government about running out of ammo in Bakhmut, which they still haven't conquered after all the times saying it's imminent, but now it's more like it's never gonna happen)

12 ( +16 / -4 )

None of the reports say which model of Patriot, PAC-2, PAC-3 or PAC-3MSE were used in the intercept.

9 ( +11 / -2 )

Yeh sure they did…..

Russia is BUYING drones from Iran, not making their own. And now this.

Is it any wonder that maybe Russia's military isn't up to snuff? It doesn't seem to be as good as what the USSR had. Russia IS a leader in cyberwar, that's a fact. But that has its limits. The Ukrainians were ready and they ain't going down so easily without a fight. Furthermore, Volodymyr Zelenskyy is NO Donald Trump. He's not a quisling.

The Kinzhal is one of the latest and most advanced Russian weapons.

Kinzhal is nothing more than a 9K720 Iskander short range solid fueled rocket powered ballistic missile mounted under an aircraft. It is not a clean sheet design but more like the US mounting an ATACMS under an F-15 and breathlessly calling that a "hypersonic guided missile". In the case of Russia there are a limited number of MiG-31s converted to launch these.

I seem to remember some Putin fanboys implying that Russia would survive a nuclear exchange with the US. Not without being in flames it won't.

Well the great majority of the equipment and weapons the Russian military fields are either Cold War era Soviet designs or very close relatives. The Soviets had more equipment but it wasn't any better.

Russia can stop anytime by returning what it stole. We're not even talking restitution or punitive measures to stop the killing.

just stop already with the war games

It is not a game when another nation takes your city or town and proceeds to destroy it with rockets, missiles and prolonged artillery barrages. It is not a game when your land is taken from you by force and your family members killed by a megalomaniac.

It's just like that 'Crying Native American' ad on TV I remember as a boy:

'People start pollution. People can stop it'.

It's the same way with this wasteful war. The ball is in Russia's court.

Are these Poo tin’s equivalent to the V weapons of the NAZI’s? A handful, irrelevant to the over all war and not as effective as they were cracked up to be?

5 ( +8 / -3 )

So, not invincible after all….

it being Russian, what are the odds?

“But this one had an old generation of micro-processors. You just wait till the new batch of updated washing machine processors arrives. THEN you Yankees will be sorry!!!”

um, ok….

Russian have effectively counters Himars with GPS Jammer

He said successfully intercepting the Kinzhal was “a slap in the face for Russia.”

I beg to differ.

The Javelin turning T-90Ms into crew crematoriums was a slap in the face.

The precision artillery was a kick in the nads for Vladie.

This is “Tire iron to the skull” territory.

A self-proclaimed gaijin poster wrote that Russia's fancy war toys would be in her words, "a game changer", maybe once again they were wrong. But this war in Ukraine is not a 'game'. The Russia supporters seem to equate the deaths of thousands is a game like the ones they play on their hand held devices.

3 ( +7 / -4 )

Alright! That must make Putin happy.

Lay it on 'em, Ukraine!!!

Go Ukraine!!!

5 ( +9 / -4 )

Yes, it was expected. Most still hit their targets though. Ukraine also uses gps jammers. It's not new.

Russia and Putin are the ones that need to stop and leave all of the Ukrainian territories. Ukraine cannot leave anywhere, only surrender.

please study history where USA has lost every war since Russia took the northern islands at the end of WW2, after defeating Nazi Germany.

Winning a war these days is all about how accurate and devastating are your weapons, if the patriot was able to down hypersonic missile what does that make the patriot?? an ultra hypersonic missile or a hypersonic on Steroids ??

Is this like when L says “Google (insert non sequitur here)”?

Using your rather loose definition of “losing”:

A) The United States has not lost every war. Granted, some went better than others, but lost all of them is a laugher.

B) The US has never suffered the strategic defeat, the out and out ass-kicking Russia and its army of drunken conscripts is facing at the hands off a smaller Ukraine using a motley collection of hand me down weapons (until the Western “good stuff” arrived anyway).

The Russian army faces strategic defeat on the battlefield. Not a loss of will or public support as happened in Afghanistan or Vietnam, they’re on the verge of wholesale destruction.

The entire history of the post civil war US Army, not so much.

Wallace ,Phosphorus can be used to illuminate target in war ,which is legal

The Russians are either trying to "illuminate" the Earth's core, or they are using white phosphorus to burn Bakhmut to the ground.

Its the latter.

Classic Russia as domestic abuser mentality. If Russia cannot win Bakhmut, it will make sure there's nothing left for its residents.

The Russian war machine is ineffective. After over a year of war they've hardly taken any of Ukraine. Russia should surrender.

9 ( +11 / -2 )

This story is very likely to be false. But the narrative is some success for Ukraine so many will be happy even if they stop to think for a few seconds and realize its just a feel good propaganda piece.

-8 ( +4 / -12 )

Everyone except Putin and some of his closest far-right cronies know Russia has lost their war of aggression. They knew it when their 40 mile long convoy ran out of gas and failed to reach Kyiv in the first weeks. They knew it when their flagship Moskva was turned into a hunk of burning twisted metal. They knew it when they were forced to retreat from Kherson.

Russia is now engulfed in a Potemkin Village of lies...

Each day some new ham-fisted, utterly unbelievable false flag op is rolled out, hoping to convince a war-weary Russian population that their country is under attack by the "West" when its just Putin attacking his own people...

His contract army is mutinying, his military humiliated, his economy cratering, and his inner circle all blaming one another and plotting against him...

It's just a matter of time before he has an "accident" - car crash, falling off a bridge, or exiting an 8th story window...or maybe seeks asylum at Mar-A-Lago...

7 ( +9 / -2 )

Ah-so...

The Russian war machine is ineffective. After over a year of war they've hardly taken any of Ukraine. Russia should surrender.

Really? Maybe you need to recheck the map. Russia has taken almost all of the territory they claim as "Russian".

-8 ( +3 / -11 )

Putin claimed the "whole of Ukraine" belongs to Russia and not just a part.

Mr Kipling

The Russian war machine is ineffective. After over a year of war they've hardly taken any of Ukraine. Russia should surrender.

Really? Maybe you need to recheck the map. Russia has taken almost all of the territory they claim as "Russian".

And now they are stuck. They can't get any more territory. Meanwhile Ukraine can.

3 ( +4 / -1 )

Any Ukraine article headline immediately states their “claims” as fact.

-8 ( +3 / -11 )

How many were launched and how many intercepted?

Russia launched one missile only?

-5 ( +2 / -7 )

first time ever shot down a hypersonic missile.

first time ever used Patriots.

no evidence of any intercept or explosion.

”reported” on Telegram by….unknown Ukrainian “commander”.

yeah ok, sure thing.

-8 ( +0 / -8 )

no evidence of any intercept or explosion.

There was no evidence that Ukraine attacked the Kremlin or that An Election was Stolen, yet you decided that there didn't need to be any.

Weird how you want evidence now. I suppose it's progress being made in your rehabili though.

6 ( +6 / -0 )

Yeah yeah.

a system from the 1980s just shot down a hypersonic missile.

google any article or even congressional testimony about the topic before yesterday to read and learn how this is impossible.

-9 ( +0 / -9 )

Yeah yeah.

a system from the 1980s just shot down a hypersonic missile.

Thereby revealing its ignorance. This system shares the name and basic function with the first generation of the system and that’s about it.

The Patriot system has been upgraded with new radars, new targeting computers, new missiles.

So yeah, it is plausible that an actual weapons system shot down one of the midget of Moscow’s so-called “super weapons” (“super” in that it did not incinerate the launch system on ignition) which are in fact using 60-70’s era tech with washing machine microchips.

But about what one would expect from one of Putie’s fan-bois.
