The Ukrainian leadership better grow up,all these grandiose ways they are gonna expel Russian, are no more than fairytales,350 billion dollars and counting, and they still asking others to do what they should of done along time ago

the plan to station tactical nuclear weapons in Belarus comes in response to the West's increasing military

If Belarus is being threatened then Russia has a responsible to help the country defend itself.

This isn't to defend Belarus. The only threat to Belarus is Russia, not Ukraine.

The US also deploys nuclear weapons outside of its territory.

If the US can do it, why can't Russia?

Because it is an escalation. The only countries outside of the US that have nukes are original NATO countries: Belgium, Germany, Italy, Netherlands, and Turkey.

France, U.K, India, Pakistan, N Korea and China have nukes.

Indicted War Criminal Putin, IWCP, knows that he will bring on a military response if he uses nukes in Ukraine. He will take his loss before then as he still wants his daughters to have a good life.

Sorry, I should have been clearer, I meant US nukes. My point being that NATO is careful not to escalate be moving nukes into new NATO countries.

Both Lukashenko's support of the war and Putin's plans to station tactical nuclear weapons in Belarus has been denounced by the Belarusian opposition.

Good to hear 'opposition' still exists in Belarus, that election denier Lukashnko backed by Putin's thugs have not been able to fully suppress those who think Lukashenko lost the last election.

Putin argued that by deploying its tactical nuclear weapons in Belarus, Russia was following the lead of the United States. He noted that Washington has nuclear weapons based in Belgium, Germany, Italy, the Netherlands and Turkey.

The US is getting a good taste of its own medicine. Doesn’t sit so well, does it?

Yeah, but they aren't. Nukes were deployed in those countries at the end of the 1950's.

This is an escalation.

Interesting, Ukraine demands more weapons, Zelensky says he cannot order the spring offensive to start unless he gets more weapons these include the depleted uranium ammunition (BTW Russia has equivalent and has openly said they are not going to use it) he also demanded cluster bombs, jets, more cannons, etc...

Just uranium ammunition and cluster bombs should have been a red flag, don't see all the Ukrainian supporters upset about cluster bombs!

https://www.icbuw.eu/united-nations-general-assembly-adopts-new-resolution-on-depleted-uranium/

https://www.un.org/disarmament/convention-on-cluster-munitions/

But like big brother the USA, Ukraine doesn't care about international conventions until the other side is in violation, it is learning fast from its USA sponsor, the "we can do it but you can't because we said so".

So, who is the aggressor?!

Russia invaded Ukraine, covertly at first in 2014 and then overtly in 2022.

If Ukraine had simply surrendered to Russia from the get-go, Russia would no doubt be placing these nukes in Ukraine in addition to Belarus.

4 ( +12 / -8 )

Putin's Nuclear Rhetoric has lost it's deterrent power.

2 ( +8 / -6 )

to the posters above that are still failing to understand why Russia is bad: any speculation about political events in Ukraine in 2014, skepticism about NATO, all of it became null and void after Putin invaded Ukraine. When he missiled civilians. While he still missiles civilians Z he didn’t take the diplomatic route while Russia still had trust and good standing in Europe. He got angry and deluded and started his killing. He is a war criminal and will be remembered as one like Hitler. He made an awful mistake which he knows , and for that reason you can feel for him and that reason only

-2 ( +8 / -10 )

If it's ok for the peace loving USA to surround Russia's borders with nukes, surely it's ok for Russia.

-3 ( +10 / -13 )

I guess I have to accept there are posters here that support Russia over the USA, regardless of the 100s of 1000s of Ukrainian ‘brothers and sisters’ Russia has already slaughtered.

-1 ( +6 / -7 )

Well I guess Ukrainian lives are more valuable than Iraqi and Syrian, didn't see the western sanctions on the USA.

That still doesn't explain your support for Indicted War Criminal Putin, IWCP.

3 ( +8 / -5 )

Putin could call a ceasefire today, just pick up the phone.

Andy

If it's ok for the peace loving USA to surround Russia's borders with nukes, surely it's ok for Russia.

That was over 60 years ago! I doubt that the motivation to do this now is a reaction to nukes in NATO founding nations.

2 ( +7 / -5 )

The same with Hong Kong but China again gets it under control. China will not bite with Taiwan no matter how much the US elites is begging for war. Back off is what China’s stance is on Taiwan but could Russia have done something in 2014?

You seem to believe murderous Xi will always turn the other cheek on Taiwan, but we can all see the preparations for war. There would be no need for Xi to keep a pet Russia if it wasn't planning something for Taiwan.

lukashenko is a spineless fool with no honor. where do they find these creeps…

From another perspective he’s very clever. Getting nukes from Russia is his personal long time goal now almost in reach, a personal guarantee to stay in power and kind of Russian ‘payment’ for the devotional support and loyalty by the Belarus regime. So he can keep his country completed and hasn’t to fear anymore becoming a target of a regime change wanted or forced by Russia or whoever else. Now one could say, he still hasn’t access as Russians maintain control over those missile depots in Belarus. But of course he wouldn’t be counted the harsh dictator he is, if he couldn’t easily manage to overturn those few Russian troops and replace them with own Belarus soldiers. The Ukraine has gambled its country, but Lukashenko has surely completely regained his country out of Russian control and influence, at least at an amount of influence that he sets the limits to, after that decision is really set into practice. That’s quite a difference to the outcome the Ukrainians might finally face.

Belarusians have to live under the boot of a brutal autocrat, just like Russians. That might be good for Lukashenko, but that's hardly to be admired.

That’s quite a difference to the outcome the Ukrainians might finally face.

Russia has shown no ability to capture a major city.

6 ( +10 / -4 )

Putin took over Belarus without a war. We could see the same with Ukraine if it wins.

-2 ( +3 / -5 )

Putin is like a crazy terrorist with a suicide vest made of nukes threatening to blow himself up and everything around him. And China's on a charm offensive with this guy?! They must be as nutty as he is!

4 ( +9 / -5 )

the US sure does get mad when other countries do what they do. Lots of hypocrisy to go around.

-9 ( +6 / -15 )

Ceasefire? Biden would tell Zelensky he is not allowed to accept it.

and most posters here would agree.

Proxy war is over when the West says it is, not a second before or after that.

How do you arrive at that conclusion? This is the U.S.'s response:

The U.S. said it would “monitor the implications” of Putin’s announcement. So far, Washington hasn't seen "any indications Russia is preparing to use a nuclear weapon,” National Security Council spokesperson Adrienne Watson said.

And the comparison to NATO missiles, which were deployed over 60 years ago, is misleading as the German foreign ministry said:

In Germany, the foreign ministry called it a “further attempt at nuclear intimidation,” German news agency dpa reported late Saturday. The ministry went on to say that “the comparison drawn by President Putin to NATO’s nuclear participation is misleading and cannot be used to justify the step announced by Russia.”

A new week, the same old jaded fantasy.

There is no further ability to support Ukraine for "as long as it takes" and unilaterally.

thats just fact.

-6 ( +6 / -12 )

Stormcrow, spending almost 400 billion for a lost Ukraine cause is just as insane, when this war will be negotiate by the victor

Irrelevant to your fantasy that Ukraine wants a ceasefire but Ole' Joe won't let them because he loves warring.

I agree with this writer's opinion

https://thehill.com/opinion/international/3916787-friendship-means-telling-hard-truths-about-the-endgame-in-ukraine/

A nation once seen as hopelessly corrupt and tied only tenuously to Western values, Ukraine has become an international symbol of freedom, democracy and principled resistance to aggression. Anyone involved in dealing with Ukraine on behalf of the U.S. cannot be unmoved by that. But politics and geography are real. Neither Ukraine nor we can help that it shares a long border with a large, powerful and paranoid neighbor. Ukraine’s friends and supporters have interests that will eventually overshadow their affections, and their resources are finite.

sounds like reality to me.

-8 ( +3 / -11 )

Black: prior to all this, Ukraine was known as a seriously corrupt country and Azov were known as Neo-Nazis.

And you mocked Obama for not doing more and praised Trump for sending lethal weapons.

Then when they didn't play ball regarding HB, you did a 180.

The end.

"A United Nations human rights monitoring group has denounced both Russia and Ukraine for having executed prisoners of war amid the Russian invasion of Ukraine."

factual.

-5 ( +4 / -9 )

The Russians executed 25 Ukrainian troops. The Ukrainians executed 15 Russian troops. However, the Ukrainians have not raped and slaughtered Russian civilians. A greater number of war crimes have been committed by the Russians including an act of genocide by abducting 150,000 Ukrainian children and taking them to Russia.

Unfortunately he makes some serious mistakes.

"Neither Ukraine nor we can help that it shares a long border with a large, powerful and paranoid neighbor."

First of all, Russia isn't paranoid. This invasion isn't about security. It's about imperialism.

Secondly, they are not that powerful, and they are becoming less so very quickly. Some of the tanks that Russia are sending into battle now were made in the 1940's! And we are only a year and a bit in. Russia's ability to keep this war going is seriously eroding.

Russia has shown no ability to capture a major city.

Facepalm !

Hmm...are you quite sure about that ?

No major cities are occupied by Russia now ?

That's an oops !

And what about Crimea was that not captured by Russia ?

I think he means since the 2012 invasion, in which case it is fact.

Just because you believe and want Russia to lose it's so called military operation doesn't all of a sudden make it a fact.

Russia is formidable and tricky and i suggest you cease underestimating your enemy.

And a lot less less formidable than previous thought.

A ceasefire is needed asap !

Why?

What makes you assume Zelenskyy would ceasefire?

It takes two to tango !

If Russia completely left Ukraine, including Crimea, I am very sure that Zelenskyy would ceasefire.

It takes two to tango !

1 ( +5 / -4 )

Ceasefire? Biden would tell Zelensky he is not allowed to accept it.

Black, you keep forgetting: The vast majority of Ukrainians don't want a ceasefire. They want to keep fighting until they take back their territory. American rightists are the ones trying to force the people of Ukraine to do things they don't want to do.

Russia is China's pet.
