Russians shelling across the river away from the plant

The Russians are shelling and shooting missiles right over the plant at Ukraine controlled areas. They have been doing this since they took the plant.

Russians shelling across the river away from the plant

Creating human shields of the population of the whole region. If that was Ukraine you’d be all over it with talk of the Geneva convention and war crimes, but no… it’s Russia.

8 ( +16 / -8 )

Could we please be informed as to exactly what targets the Russians are firing at from the plant grounds.

The towns are Dorozhnianka, Charivne, Orikhiv, Mala Tokmachka, Mali Scherbaky, Olhivske, Stepove, Novosilka and Zelene Pole.

This is the resource you need, an interactive map of all the military actions in Ukraine and yes, it lists the names of the towns being shelled by Russian forces around that nuclear plant:

https://liveuamap.com/en/2022/28-august-at-zaporizhzhia-direction-russian-artillery-shelled

8 ( +10 / -2 )

So it's ok for you for Ukraine to shell the nuclear plant because the problem is created by Russia?

Absolutely not. The problem is still created by Russia.

6 ( +11 / -5 )

So Russia shells the plant,

The Russians are sending shells and rockets over the plant towards Ukrainian targets. However their equipment is not so good and the average Russian soldier is not the best and brightest among Russia's youth. They often hit things they do not intend to hit. For such a force to launch ordnance over a nuclear plant is asking for trouble, but that is what they are doing.

5 ( +10 / -5 )

I know you think Russia's are stupid but come-on no one is that persistent in doing something that doesn't work.

We know they're stupid. They drove heavy equipment around the heavily contaminated, off limits Red Forest surrounding the Chernobyl nuclear plant. The Russians soldiers camped there! Nobody used any kind of protective equipment. Based on questions Ukrainian plant staff asked rank and file Russian soldiers, none of them knew the history of Chernobyl. All they knew was they had to secure critical infrastructure. Why would anyone expect Russian soldiers to have better situational awareness around this nuclear plant?

5 ( +10 / -5 )

Russian troops in Kazakhstan are refusing to return to Russia because they do not want to be deployed to the war in Ukraine, Ukrainian intelligence officials said Saturday.

Russian troops fighting each other.

Moscow is reportedly offering amnesty to prisoners who agree to fight in Ukraine, in a bid to avoid an unpopular full blown conscription.

A group of Russian soldiers have accused their commanders of jailing them in eastern Ukraine for refusing to take part in the war.

5 ( +9 / -4 )

There is a motorcycle with a sidecar sitting under all that debris.

4 ( +5 / -1 )

And the west supports this.

Huh? Those who are basing themselves at the plant and firing into areas nearby are creating this problem. It’s not Ukraine and it’s certainly not “the west”.

4 ( +11 / -7 )

In a joint statement issued on 12 August, 42 countries, including the US and the UK, urged Russian forces to withdraw from the site and allow normal operations at the plant to resume to ensure safety. The director general of the International Atomic Energy Agency, Rafael Mariano Grossi, has also called for military action near the plant to cease and stressed that there is an urgent need for an expert team to travel to the site to carry out safety checks.

4 ( +9 / -5 )

Oh Rodney,

there are other countries which would be more effected in case of a radioactive fallout from Zaporizhzhia:

Ukraine, Belarus, Moldova, Lithuania, Latvia, Estonia, Poland, Romania, Serbia, Hungary, Slovakia, the Czech Republic and Russia. (possibly even spreading further West). Quite the opposite direction as your "prediction"!

And in reference to that "dirty bomb" - where did you get that information?

3 ( +7 / -4 )

The Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant supplied Ukraine with 20% of its total power but now only two reactors are operating, probably because of the occupation by 500 Russian troops and the lack of sufficient operator numbers is now only supplying 10% of total power.

The Russians are endangering the plant with its storage of munitions.

It is thought only one incoming power supply remains with two other lines down. The NPP needs external power to operate safely.

If there was a nuclear disaster at the plant NATO would move into Ukraine.

An IAEA inspection is due at the NPP but Russia has banned any American or UK inspectors.

Russia is burning off natural gas near the Artic and creating soot going into the atmosphere.

3 ( +9 / -6 )

Antiquesaving

Now you are good with Google so if you find any more information I would like to know.

> I have looked and the above was what I found again generally only 4 operate at the same time, 2 down for maintenance before the invasion. parts and maintenance done by the Russian company that build these type of reactors.

There are six reactors making it the largest NPP in Europe. In Japan TEPCO's Kashiwazaki-Kariwa has seven.

Normally four reactors would be operating producing 20% of total power. Two would be shut down for maintenance and fuel changes. Currently, only two reactors are operating producing just 10% of total power.

The reactors and plants are maintained by Energoatom. Sometimes using outside contractors, including Westinghouse.

After the Russian invasion of Ukraine began on 24 February 2022, Energoatom shut down Units 5 and 6 to reduce risk, keeping Units 1 to 4 in operation on 25 February 2022.

On 19 August, Russia agreed to allow IAEA inspectors access to the Zaporizhzhia plant from Ukrainian-held territory, after a phone call between the President of France, Emmanuel Macron, and Russian president, Vladimir Putin. A temporary ceasefire around the plant still needed to be agreed upon for the inspection.

It has six reactors, each generating 950MW, and a total output of 5,700MW, enough energy for roughly 4m homes.

The more I think of it, the more I think that, like threats of nuclear war, the Russians are using the Zaporizhzhia nuclear plant to play on western fears.

The Russians have as much to fear from a radiation leak as anybody else. Imagine something happening at Zaporizhzhia similar to what happened at Chernobyl. A huge cloud of radioactive stuff finds its way into the atmosphere, and where it goes depends on the prevailing wind direction, and the Russians don't have any control over that. In the days and weeks following a radiation leak, that cloud of radioactive stuff could just as easily come down over Moscow as came down over London or even New York. In fact, the risk is even higher for Moscow simply because Moscow is closer to the plant, giving the cloud of radioactive stuff less time to dissipate.

Speaking of proximity to the plant, the Russian soldiers in the plant are at the greatest risk from an exposure to a radiation leak. If they aren't concerned, I'll chalk that up to ignorance, and to disinformation coming from a government that doesn't care about the lives and health of its own soldiers and citizens.

They’ve persisted in something that doesn’t work for the past 6 months, they have indulged in blatant, transparent lies for over six months. Yes, they obviously are that stupid. Or more to the point, they think the rest of the world is stupid.

All that Zelensky had to do was to follow the agreements. He did nothing, only made the shellings of Donbass worse.

He certainly did not ‘start invasion plans’, his plan was to make the region a special autonomous zone. It was the little green men from over the border who continued the shelling.

Russia . . . A global pest.

If they're this crazy now, what will they be capable of doing next if they win in Ukraine.

2 ( +7 / -5 )

according to RIA.

RIA, aren't they one of Putin's sources for pushing the narratives: "Russia isn't going to invade Ukraine', and 'it's just military exercise', and claiming 'it's Ukrainians killing and raping their own people while destroying their own homes'

Many Russians and others in anti-west groups might still believe Putin's propaganda, but reasonable people everywhere might question it, just like reasonable people might question what the Pentagon reports. Putin bring your murdering hordes back across the border, let the young people you're sacrificing so you can maintain your personal wealth and power lead normal lives instead of tasking them with butchering other humans. You would think a male like Putin who's spent so many years as an 'intelligence' officer would be well aware of the social consequences of millions of individual troops returning from an actual horror show like the Ukraine War, or the Russian-Afghanistan War might have on a society. Maybe the returning troops could join with one of Russia's many crime groups, just as long as they stay in Russia, and don't join one of Putin's private armies like the Wagner Group and go fight in Putin's private wars for oil abroad n places like Syria and Libya, or places like Sudan. Let Putin continue booting own goals and weaken Russia, while climate change results in melting permafrost which releases methane clouds putting Russians and the globe at even greater risk.

1 ( +11 / -10 )

The Russians are burning off the gas they are not selling to Europe, increasing the pace of climate change.

Should be the same whoever is burning the gas

1 ( +7 / -6 )

There would be no shelling from either side if the orcs hadn’t invaded.

There will be no shelling if the orcs go home.

Simples.

The idea that Ukraine is shelling the plant, deliberately putting the whole country, as well as surrounding countries who are mainly allies, at risk of nuclear disaster, is ludicrous and beggars belief.

The idea of a rogue state engaged in a totally unjustified and illegal invasion resorting to deliberate nuclear terrorism is, unfortunately, not unbelievable.

I fear this war will continue until Putin totally flips his lid, crosses one line too many, and forces NATO to take direct action.

1 ( +10 / -9 )

The post you quoted is meant as justv another thing for people to consider (or reconsider ) it doesn't say anything about who I think is responsible

1 ( +3 / -2 )

what does Russia gain from shelling it's own location?

The same that it gets from blowing up cars in Moscow: the delusion that they can claim to be the victim.

Of course no one believes them apart from the fanboys.

Why Zelenskyy gets a pass after he promised peace in Donbas then starts invasion plans.

Immediately after his election in 2019 Zelensky started working on partial autonomy for the Donbas region, and was stymied by the opposition parties. What are these ‘invasion plans’ of which you speak?

1 ( +9 / -8 )

Once again Russia trying to spread fear, using terror against everyone and everything.

And think about, why would Ukraine shell its own power plant while they're in the process to reconquer areas that have been lost to the Russian marauders? Why would they endanger their own population? Doesn't make sense at all, does it? The only crazy one who doesn't consider anything except his own imaginations is sitting in Moscow!

0 ( +10 / -10 )

new narrative is about averting a nuclear disaster

Millions of people in Ukraine, Russia and who knows where else are at risk, and the Putin idolaters reduce the situation to being a 'narrative'. If a nuclear disaster does occur, Putin, the psychopathic male who initiated the war and ramped up nastiness in Ukraine along with his supporters need to own the results.Putin can hide in a fallout shelter in one of his palaces and read the results his media send him, while he's sipping champagne and noshing on caviar, then emerge to see the destruction he created, and blame it on others.

0 ( +7 / -7 )

The Russians are burning off the gas they are not selling to Europe, increasing the pace of climate change.

Apparently that is not enough of a crime against humanity to merit bumping off Putin.

If they cause a second Chernobyl, will that be enough?

0 ( +7 / -7 )

Shells coming FROM the area of the facility are Russian. Any shells going TOWARDS the facility are Ukrainian. If this isn't just more propaganda from Kiev, you would expect the crews of the Ukrainian artillery would have very strict guidelines to NOT fire at a nuclear facility. On the other hand you would also expect Russian commanders to also have orders to not draw retaliatory fire by shelling from the area of the facility.

The reactors are designed to withstand considerable external damage but I don't think we need to test this.

0 ( +7 / -7 )

For those of you who think nuclear power will save humanity, the future will hold more of the same and rest assured Japanese reactors are being targeted with missiles.

"there are other countries which would be more effected"

> AFFECTED!

> Which is the precise reason why they think (whoever they are) taking the plant hostage would work

So then who gains from international intervention?

That is a simple question.

Does Russia score points, will the international community come to Russia's aid?

Does Ukraine grain from the attention, does Ukraine think it can get help from the international community?

Answer these questions and then ask who gains from firing at the nuclear plant.

Right or wrong who gains?

-3 ( +7 / -10 )

The postmodern economic-cultural vision of Europe has failed abysmally, as the ambitions of its architects were always based on false foundations and vastly exceeded their capabilities. More than four-fifths of the world has rejected their evil vision; the active resistance to it has barely even begun to take form. But it is already clear that there will be no Great Reset, and the neocon global imperialists who believed they were destined 'to rule the world and own everything in it' will be lucky to survive the series of regime changes over the next decade that are among the probable consequences of the Euro-Russian War.

It’s clear that the Russians have already concluded that they will have to separate the eastern half of Ukraine from the NATO-EU-WEF regime in order to keep the Russian-speakers living there safe from the terrorist attacks of the desperate, and defeated, government in Kiev. The question is whether they will do so quickly, or if they will continue to proceed with the highly effective attrition warfare that is depleting US military resources while simultaneously putting massive economic pressure on the European governments.

My bet is on the latter. I suspect the Russians are less interested in regime change in Kiev than they are in Berlin, Paris, Rome, Warsaw, and Bern. They know perfectly well that the people of Europe are no more enthusiastic about “standing with Ukraine” than they are about “welcoming refugees”; the MSM media narratives were and are always fake and wholly manufactured. To wit:

The EU will encounter “major challenges” due to the sanctions it imposed on Russia over the conflict in Ukraine, the bloc’s top diplomat, Josep Borrell, has said.

Former Czech President Vaclav Klaus has rejected the notion that the Ukrainian conflict has been the sole reason for the economic problems now experienced around the globe. “This is self-inflicted, this is self-inflicted by the West. The Russian invasion just added to that.”

Budapest refuses to negotiate any further EU restrictions targeting Russian energy because there is no current alternative to supplies from Moscow, Hungarian Foreign Minister Peter Szijjarto said on Saturday.

With food prices up 15 percent, COVID-19 job losses and surging energy costs, more and more people are seeking support from different social services. Germany’s 962 food banks are supporting more than two million customers.

Beyond firewood and natural gas, energy prices in Croatia have skyrocketed in the past few months. It’s not just consumers feeling the squeeze – across the country, it essentially forces many small fuel stations out of business. The entire nation is preparing for the incoming winter with unease.

A group of Left-SPD lawmakers have had enough of the unprecedented Ukraine arms shipments following on the heels of Berlin boosting its military budget by €100 billion. They’ve sent a letter to German Chancellor Olaf Scholz with the title, “The weapons must be silent!” Instead of pumping weapons into a hot conflict with a nuclear-armed superpower, the group within Scholz’s own party are demanding the pursuit of a diplomatic negotiations, pushing the Ukrainians to the peace talks table.

Davos Man is dead. And winter is coming.

-3 ( +6 / -9 )

It is confusing the way the article is written.

Could we please be informed as to exactly what targets the Russians are firing at from the plant grounds.

The article mentions "towns" but only mentions the city Zaporizhzhia by name as having been shelled but doesn't say those shells came from the nuclear plant site.

Now I ask because the longest range Russian artillery gun has a theoretical max distance of 52 km which would put Zaporizhzhia city far out of range, in reality the Russian mostly have 152 mm artillery with a max range of 24 km which would at best only reach the nearest cities directly across the river.

So the article if properly written would have separated these 2 stories.

As firing on Zaporizhzhia city could not be from the nuclear site and any firing from the site would be towards the town's directly across.

-4 ( +7 / -11 )

Zelensky has painted himself in a corner, with no prospect of negotiation

I’d say NATO the US UK and EU has painted him in the corner. Why Zelenskyy gets a pass after he promised peace in Donbas then starts invasion plans.

It’s funny nobody cared about the Ukrainians being bombed by Ukrainians for many years. Only Ukrainians being bombed by Russia. Sure shows how powerful the pro war corporate globalist (not the Jewish conspiracy you wanna believe it is) MSM machine is.

-4 ( +6 / -10 )

So are people still supporting continuing this war against Russia?

Been some time since I've seen "this is the price for supporting democracy people are firm in their resolve to fight tyranny" type of posts.

Anyway what is the reason Russia isn't selling gas to Europe? The price ceiling sanction?

Just squeezing?

Actually as far as I could find only 2 reactor were functioning prior to the invasion.

Seems all 6 haven't been in operation at the same time for quite some time and it usually functions with only 4 reactors at a time.

Prior to the invasion 2 were not in operation 2 were down for maintenance ( which ironically was supposed to be done by the Russians).

So the fact only 2 are in operation has nothing to do with Russia not having sufficient anything it has to do with parts and general maintenance not a priority during the fighting.

Now you are good with Google so if you find any more information I would like to know.

Ok let's say that this feeling you have as to why is true.

So Russia shells the plant, as you say no one believes them that Ukraine did it, so under your scenario, Russia does it again and again no one believes them, so again under your scenario Russia does it a third time, and again no one believes them, so they do it a fourth time a fifth time.......

So does that sound possible?

I know you think Russia's are stupid but come-on no one is that persistent in doing something that doesn't work.

But try this one;

Ukraine fired at the plant, says it is Russia, everyone including you believe them and Ukraine gains more sympathy, so it does it again even better results, repeat each time better results then says the international community needs to help take back the plant

When I hear the sound of hooves I think horse not Zebra.

I know you feel for Ukraine but feeling over facts isn't going to help.

Ukraine is desperate so doing anything to get more help isn't out of bounds for them.

Maybe they should sanction Russia"s nuclear industry as zelensky has requested to stop the shelling

And watch Russia turn off the power to Ukraine and gas to Europe on the first cold day.

This is the problem. It is called reality and far too many try and ignore it.

We can say it is Russia's fault, we can say Russia needs to go home, we can sanction until the end of time, we can blame Europe for being dependent or Russia oil and gas, etc...

None of that changes the reality of the situation, Russia has the plant, Europe needs the gas, Ukraine needs Russian gas which it has no alternative and is still selling to its neighbours) Russia controls much of the power supply to Ukraine.

So the situation is this and saying thing that are not going to happen of possible at this time makes no sense.

We need solutions and the only way is to have talks and as it is now at least one side refuses.

Yes I understand why Ukraine refuses but at the moment with nuclear disater possible and a frozen Europe this winter, we may not have a choice.

This is reality not feelings.
