Ukrainain are floating a delusional plan called the Kiev Compact ,for security guarantee that are bunch of fairytale

Meanwhile, some of its defenders in Russia played down the idea that the success belonged to Ukraine, blaming instead Western weapons and fighters for the losses.

Which for months they have been saying were insignificant, stolen and sold on the black market and inferior to Russian military.

Seems they were wrong.

Good news all around. I like the part in the article that says Russian troops are surrendering en masse. That is a telling indication about what Ukraine has achieved here.

The 6,000 sq kilometer area is far greater than the 3,000 initially announced for the Kharkiv region. If true and even if it counts gains in the Kherson region, this would mean considerable additional fallback of the Russians. There are reports that a Ukrainian flag flies in Sviatohirsk in the Donetsk regions, an important symbolic point because of the famous Lavra. Today's reports will be very important to see how far the Ukrainians think they can go and hold territory and where the Russians try to hold the line. This action by the Ukrainians will long be studied by military specialists. What we do know if that it has raised morale in Ukraine and willingness to fight.

Reports of many Russian POWs after Ukrainian push

Having so many POWs you don't have enough space to store them is not a bad problem to have.

Treat them well. Keep them dry. Give them a warm place to sleep. Feed them three squares a day. And when it comes time to send them home, they become your ambassadors to Mother Russia.

The sooner Russia retreats from Ukraine, the sooner the war crimes trials can begin.

Storm, where will the be tried in the People Court,

the sooner the war crimes trials can begin

Another reason for that war not ending very quickly and not before having taken the whole Ukraine. Losing the war, the occupied areas and losing face , that’s one thing. But ending the war quickly in negotiations and in the knowledge of then early war crimes trials and also having given all evidence for that, that’s something very different and very improbable. Before that happens, even the most incapable politicians or generals would mow down it all the dirty way and completely occupy.

The Hague, where else? Punishments will be difficult to deliver, but this ugly adventure of Putin’s should be an embarrassment for Russia.

Run along home, little orcs. ALLL the way back to mama and Mother Russia it seems.

BTW, thank you for abandoning, er....."contributing" the equivalent of an entire brigade's worth of functional tanks, APCs and self-propelled howitzers.

You may now be the single largest donner of military equipment to the Ukrainian army. (Nice of you to leave the ammo and food as well.)

It seems that the 1st Guards Tank Army, one of the premiere units meant to defend Moscow and lead offensive ops against NATO has been effectively destroyed and will take YEARS to reconstitute. They had been there for months and had dug in in defensive positions and had literally minutes to drop their weapons, steal cars and run for their lives. Which raises 2 questions:

1) Who knew that GTA meant something other than Grand Theft Auto (which seems to be the unit's motto)?

2) If this is the best unit or among the best units in Russia, just how bad is this rabble of drunken untrained thugs?

I don’t see demands for war crimes trials having much bearing on when the war ends. Short of Ukrainian forces capturing Moscow, which isn’t going to happen, no Russians save for those caught on the battlefield face the risk of ever appearing before a court. And they know this, so Ukrainian demands for it are unlikely to sway Russian decision makers far from the battlefield.

At the moment it looks like Ukraine has the upper hand on the ground, which is also unrelated to war crimes trials. Its army is getting stronger and has access to the best quality weapons in the world. The Russian army is getting weaker and has access to a vast reserve of ….rusted 1960s Soviet era scrap that they’ve likely already mined for usable parts anyway.

There isn’t an obvious way for the Russians to reverse this. Their army sucks, the Ukrainian one doesn’t. This type of strategic imbalance almost inevitably leads to the army that sucks losing. Its hard to say when this will happen, but the writing is on the wall and given how quickly they collapsed in Kharkiv I wouldn’t be surprised if they get driven out of everywhere except Crimea by year’s end.

This one sentence was my morning laugh. Thank you for it :)

The Russians fled in stolen cars.

The Russians fled in stolen cars.

The Russian soldiers have so few skills and are so poorly trained that just a couple of months into the invasion they were no longer able to maintain their military trucks. They were resorting to using civilian dump trucks and flatbeds to move soldiers and equipment. Picture a bunch of soldiers standing in the back of a dump truck. They literally do not have enough transports to retreat in so they resort to stealing cars. Often they ditched their uniforms and stole civilian clothes to wear.

Meanwhile, the front page of Russian newspapers probably read something like “Glorious Russian Troops Set New Land Speed Record. “The speed of Russia’s finest troops have left our enemies stunned”, says Kremlin spokesorc.

Pravda: “Russian Warship Moskva Conducts Courageous Ramming Attack! Destroys 2 Expensive Ukrainian Missiles: In honor of its glorious service, Moskva has been officially reclassified as a submarine”

RT: “Russian Army Tanks Set New Altitude Record!: “No Western Design Can Hope to Fly as High as Our Turrets”, says Kremlin.
