The Russians are going to rue the day that they went the Aleppo route. Not because it will stiffen Ukraine’s will to fight or increase its desire for vengeance - it’s tough to get more than 100% of a country’s population aligned against you (but the midget from Moscow is doing his level best).

No, this targeting of civilians along with Russia’s demonstrated incompetence, will give the West, particularly the Germans, the gumption to go there on supplying Leopard IIs to the UA in large numbers.

Supplying tanks will be decisive, it’s the right thing morally and strategically to do, and the is nothing mini-me can do in retaliation to NATO short of nuclear war and that boy has cried wolf too often.

I think the US should volunteer to back-fill the NATO Allies (most Leopards will not be provided by Germany directly) on a one-to-one basis with M1-A2s in storage in the US.

No, they may not be quite as capable, but the threat is much reduced, they’re still better than anything the Red “army” uses, and the logistics tail would be more manageable in a supporting role. (I would defer to Dessert if he disagrees.)

But yes. The Russians are going to rue the day they crossed that line.

Moscow denies intentionally targeting civilians, Hilarious if it wasn’t for the fact for nearly a year the Russian army has been indiscriminately, daily bombing, shooting missiles into civilian areas. Mass graves of civilians, even carelessly leaving bound civilians shot in the head on the roads. Just because Moscow says one thing doesn’t make it true.

A new German defense guy - can't be worse than the last one, I assume and hope!

As always RuSSians are doing what they're best at:

destroying civilian infrastructure, spreading fear and terror, killing innocent civilians in the thousands.

In addition, Ukraine doesn't have the means to shoot down those X-22 missiles and alike.

This was definitely an intended attack on an apartment building!

All those war crimes as well as attrocities will be brought in front of an international court!

The ones responsible for this, including but not only PUTAin, will face their destiny!

Ukraine prevails!

UA does not need new weapons rockets.

UA needs normal leader willing to negotiate about peace.

The Germans have to dump their baggage of guilt from the last time they sent tanks into the Ukraine - a bullet they will have to bite if they want to be on the winning side and send a belated signal to Putin that the West will finish what he started. The goal must now be not only the withdrawal of Russian troops from ALL Ukrainian territory, but also the overthrow of Putinism (Kremlin tyranny) and the liberation of the Russian people from their centuries-long submission to autocrats. Russia must learn to become a "normal" country.

Give the Ukrainians tanks so they can drive these barbaric invaders out of their country. What are you waiting for?

The time for German dithering in hope of returning to the failed engagement with russia (very profitable for them) is long gone. The German government must now finally grow a pair and fully commit to arming Ukraine to free their country from the fascist invaders.

If Germany is suffering historic guilt for its actions 80 years ago what better cure than to help save a country they harmed by driving the modern fascists out and being the good guys for a change?

Russia needs a normal leader who doesn't invade neighboring countries and take their land. Until then, help Ukraine defend from this mad leader.

UA does not need new weapons rockets.

UA needs normal leader willing to negotiate about peace.

East, peddling discredited russian propaganda doesn’t change the reality that a russian missile fired at civilian structures has killed children, women and men none of them a valid military target. Yet another war crime to add to the very long list that the invaders have committed since 24/2/22.

Yes, everyday the same melody, they demand much and from everything just get a little from something. If they get all the tanks in the world they next want all warplanes. It’s understandable in their situation, but many many people have to get up in the morning to produce the tanks or to work for their costs. Solidarity is one thing, but the rest of the globe also has a life to live, we can’t put all resources into those two fighting Russian and Ukrainian idiots only. They have to end the conflict or to flee the area, if they can’t withstand longer, period.

Before sending another bullet to Vlody, I would like to know specifically what is the end game. What will be considered "victory" and enough to end the fighting. A return to the pre-invasion border? A return of Crimea as well? A punishment strike on Russia? Simply bringing Russia to the bargaining table? Nobody seems to know.

Until that happens, I am skeptical. Tanks are not needed to defend a country. The cost of a single tank would buy hundreds of anti-tank weapons/rockets.

Attilathehungry - Ukraine's stated goals are first the removal of Russian forces from Ukrainian territory, and then they also want any deportees returned, compensation for damages caused, and security guarantees that Russia won't do this again. Exactly what everyone would want if it were their country being invaded.

Sven - The rest of the globe is just living their lives. It is the Ukrainians who are fighting and dying. If they are conquered, then Russia will turn their attention elsewhere. I don't mind helping Ukraine with the tools they need to do the job. I would hope that the rest of the world would help my country if we were being invaded.

Zelensky is pushing for ALL the weapons types in NATO's possession, and every NATO state 'leader' is promising to give him whatever Biden tells them to.

The thing is that of the insane number of tanks NATO has, very few are actually in condition to be fielded in active combat in a Ukrainian winter battlefield, and they're almost all designated as the minimum force that NATO needs on hand to be able to defend actual NATO borders.

The process of unmothballing the tanks in storage, and getting them fit for Ukrainian conditions, including the lack of support supplies, facilities, and technicians will take months, months during which the western Ukrainian forces will be pushed out of eastern Ukraine.

Give them tanks then give them modern jet fighters so that they can end this invasion by throwing the Russians back across the border.

Russia attacks apartment blocks, schools and hospitals because, simply put, that is all they are capable of hitting. They know the precise locations of these sites, they have all been there for many years, even many decades and are not movable. What is also true is that Russia is utterly incapable of finding Ukraine military forces except for some dug in positions in Donbass. These attacks are doing nothing to degrade the Ukraine military's ability to conduct operations. Much of Ukraine's military logistics comes from the west and is not being degraded by these attacks. They are just doing grave harm to civilians.

Sven, even the US (biggest contributor so far) has not given all that much. Assuming 100 billion, that's 300usd/person in the US... Not exactly "all resources".
