The economy shrank 4 percent from April through June compared with a year earlier, the Russian statistics agency said on Friday.

Oops. So much for the “The mighty Russian economy” troupe.

Given that it was a Russian agency, the actual number was is much worse.

@Monty

Russia is a piece of a sh..t and a pain in the a..ss for the whole world. hope Russia will get punished for starting this war, for all their murdering and raping..

It's so weird to hear that from countries that started wars against Serbia, Iraq, Afghanistan and Libya, murdered, plundred and raped there. And why this habit of calling a bunch of NATO countries "the whole world"? Middle East, Latin America, Africa, almost all Asia do not take part in this Western hysteria.

@ClippetyClop

Stupid games such as invading, murdering, raping, pillaging and placing untrained conscripts in charge of one of the world's biggest nuclear facilities?

Criminal games such as invading Donbass, murdering, raping, pillaging peaceful locals and shelling one of the world's biggest nuclear facilities to get some extra attention and some extra cash from the West.

@Nemo

what results when we coddle fascists

The present situation, a civil war that was started by Western-supported Ukrofascist in 2014 is the direct result of this coddling.

So no matter what the Russian fan bois want to post, Zelenski enjoys broad public support and the public wants to fight for Ukrainian sovereignty

Millions of able-bodied Ukrainians fled to other countries preferring not become cannon fodder, draft men literally chasing young males to give them draft notices, special death squads of diehard nazi shoot on spot ordinary Ukroarmy soldiers who began to retreat (just like SS did in 1945), Ukroarmy units are badly undermanned due to desertions, dozens of thousand of Ukrainians fight against the regime alongside the Russian Army... Yeah, sure, it certainly looks like broad support of Zelensky's regime.

@wallace

Yesterday in Bucha the last of the 400 civilians were buried. 400 civilians were brutalized and raped including young girls

Pro-regime mayor of Bucha immediately after the Russians left the area declared on videos in social media "everything is fine, everybody safe". But several days after that, when a neonazi volunteer battalion made its "checking for collaborators" sweep there, suddenly dozens of dead bodies appeared. That was their "work".

So fight with your own people and your own weapons using your own money and resources then?

My people are the United States of America and they say by a large bi-partisan majority “yep. Because we support free countries fighting for freedom and democracy.”

But nice to know who the coward surrender-monkeys are.

I saw new polling last night. 98% of Ukrainians want to fight and 91% support Zelenski.

The fact is simple, Putin/Russia invaded a sovereign country Ukraine. The captured areas are now handing out Russian passports to the Ukrainians.

5 ( +7 / -2 )

Putin has lied every day since the end of last year when he said he would not invade Ukraine. He lies every day to his own people and to all the troops who are fighting and dying for him. They were told they were going on training exercises and not to go and kill people.

Wow history isn't something you know.

Russia doesn't need to replace anything it has use NATO as the enemy since the end of WW2.

> NATO was founded on April 4, 1949, in Washington, D.C., United States.

Russia did not exist, it was the communist Soviet Union. “

Ouch.

NATO was founded on April 4, 1949, in Washington, D.C., United States.

Russia did not exist, it was the communist Soviet Union. NATO was formed to provide collective security against the Soviet Union.

The Cold War March 12, 1947 – December 26, 1991.

NATO was never the enemy of Russia. In fact, when the Soviet Union fell there was discussion about the new Russia joining NATO.

Putin was an officer of the dreaded KGB.

Putin hopes to turn the clock back to the days of the Soviet Union.

The nuclear reactor was in Ukraine from before and is supposed to be there, but the Russians were not there from before and are not supposed to be there. The Russians are obviously to blame.

2 ( +6 / -4 )

Yesterday, I postulated the following:

“Negotiate? With Putin - a liar, war criminal, sociopath? A guy who never keeps his word? This guy? “

To which the answer was “Yes, what are the other options?” from some of our lot who clearly have forgotten Chamberlain in 38 or any of the other NUMEROUS examples of what results when we coddle fascists.

Well, one of the options is to fight! And not only when it’s the W. Pacific in late 44 (when the IJN had been destroyed) or late March 45 (when my grandfather had destroyed the Nazi army and was mercifully accepting the surrender of Hitler Youth kids.), but fight when not everything is on our side because the alternative is worse

I saw new polling last night. 98% of Ukrainians want to fight and 91% support Zelenski.

Situation at Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant ‘Very Alarming’, International Atomic Energy Agency Director General Tells Security Council

Russia is not shelling its own troops who control the nuclear site and the area around it

Thats exactly what it’s doing. Russia, in spite of the claims of its Putie groupies, is losing. They have shot their wad, lost the initiative, what have you.

This is entirely consistent with Russian doctrine of escalate to de-escalate. That is, when losing (check), do something so shocking and outside conflict norms (shelling a nuclear power plant - check), that the other side will be too afraid to press its advantage and will enter into negotiations (which the Russians will then forget when it suits them.)

The reduced Ukraine nuclear plant staff are surviving under extreme conditions with a Russian gun to their heads.

Russia should withdraw its troops from the plant. Ukraine promises not to put any military in it and the IAEA is allowed in to inspect the plant and ensure the staffing levels are returned to normal.

The situation at Ukraine’s Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant has deteriorated rapidly to the point of becoming “very alarming,” Director General of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) Rafael Mariano Grossi warned the Security Council on Thursday afternoon.

Following shelling

One reactor unit was disconnected from the electrical grid, triggering its emergency protection system and setting generators into operation to ensure power supply.

He asked both sides to cooperate with the UN atomic agency.

“This is a serious hour, a grave hour, and the IAEA must be allowed to conduct its mission in Zaporizhzhia as soon as possible”.

You can believe that Russia is attacking its own troops, or you can believe that the US installed regime that has been shelling its own population for almost a decade to try and force them into complying with its dictates and extremist elements are willing to do ANYTHING knowing that the world's largest and most pernicious propaganda machine will simply blame everything on Russia, even when neutral, professional, international organizations specifically investigate and say that it was the regime that has been doing it.

-5 ( +5 / -10 )

The position of the Ukrainians is "Russia leaves we let IAEA in"

Russia has offered multiple times to let IAEA in.

So in whose interested is it to create a crisis by shelling the facility?

Russia holds it and didn't care, and has always said IAEA could inspect.

The IAEA trying to remain neutral said both sides need to give permission.

Ukraine has steadfastly refused.

Ukraine had said clearly only once Russia leaves the IAEA can inspect.

Sorry but being right and being dead and getting possibly millions killed are very different things.

Ukraine is the only one that gains by creating this crisis.

Ukraine bombs then blamed Russia hopping the international community will do something to get the plant back under Ukrainian control.

Yes folks when you hear the sound of hooves 99% chance it is a horse not a Zebra.

Russia bombing it's own troops is a zebra.

Kiev playing stupid games as the west and its media lose interest. Just look how far down the page Ukraine stories fall on JT.

Yes of course, that is how wars are measured, by clicks on a relatively obscure Japanese news site.

Unfortunately for Russia and for you, the West will continue to pump money and weapons into Ukraine, drawing Russian boys into the grinder for months, years to come.

Kiev playing stupid games

Stupid games such as invading, murdering, raping, pillaging and placing untrained conscripts in charge of one of the world's biggest nuclear facilities?

Stupid 'games' indeed.

-7 ( +7 / -14 )

but there has been no sign so far of Russia agreeing to move its troops out of the facility

Russia is a piece of a sh..t and a pain in the a..ss for the whole world.

I hope Russia will get punished for starting this war, for all their murdering and raping...and also for drawing the world at the edge of a third world war and now also at the edge of a nuclear catastroph.

Russia started all this and the world will never forget that.

I heard that many countries now will stop to issue travel visas for Russian tourists.

Basically I support that, but unfortunately this also hits the good and nice Russians living under that mass murdering regime.

I really hope that these good and nice Russians will stand up against their mass murdering regime and all its supporters and followers and bring them to fall.

3 ( +10 / -7 )

Luckily, we are not impervious to logic.

It is logical to believe the Ukraine hit Crimea.

However, it defies reason to think Russia is shelling their own troops in ZNPP. (Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant)
