I agree, there have been quite a few extreme leftists trying to recruit young people on line.

Leftists, islamists, other cultists..... that is a constant. I don´t see how that changes due to Corona.

It's because extremists who are looking for excuses to bash Chinese (like Trump), and Islamic extremists (like ISIL + Iran's regime) and Christian 'conservative'/fundamentalists and Nazis, KKK and NOI are always saying crap like the Jews, Polish, Hispanics, Blacks, whoever 'unleashed' it on somebody as if that were possible. Even if that were the case - why is CoVid-19 affecting people of every category?

You got stupid people out there of every category out there. Just look at the zeros 'protesting' at US state capitals recently.

Guterres told a U.N. Security Council meeting on youth, peace and security that “these frustrations and, frankly, failures to address them by those in power today, fuel declining confidence in political establishments and institutions.”

He is right. It’s why there is declining confidence in institutions like the UN and WHO.

@WilliB I agree completely. The left is doing a hard push globally warning us of the right wing extremists that are recruiting our youth. True but they always fail to mention the left wing extremists who are just as busy.

No wonder some Canadian lawmakers proposed legislation to limit intentionally disseminating 'misinformation':

Yeah, I read that. You are not concerned about governments deciding what news you are allowed to read and what not? So fundamentally you agree with the policy of the mainland China government? Seriously?

....says the headline, but the article does not say anything like that. Extremists always try to recrit people; the article does not explain the claim that the Corona virus makes any difference.

Young people have great potential and could best some current adult leaders today easily if given the resources.

They're not conditioned like adults into fixed views and definitely not stupid. We just need to give them that respect, equip them to think for themselves and have a little faith

taking advantage of COVID-19 lock downs to intensify social media efforts to spread hatred and recruit young people who are spending more time online.

Not just extremist groups, also nations and political organizations of all sorts. No wonder some Canadian lawmakers proposed legislation to limit intentionally disseminating 'misinformation':

"This is not a question of freedom of speech. This is a question of people who are actually actively working to spread disinformation, whether it's through troll bot farms, whether [it's] state operators or whether it's really conspiracy theorist cranks who seem to get their kicks out of creating havoc."

The questions re freedom of speech, for nations where that's allowed, have to be asked.
