So Nuclear War is now a likelihood ?

North Korea is preparing to conduct its seventh nuclear test, Iran “has either been unwilling or unable” to accept a deal to return to the 2015 nuclear agreement aimed at reining in its nuclear program, and Russia is “engaged in reckless, dangerous nuclear saber-rattling” in Ukraine.

because you know, elections have real world consequences

countries seeking “false security” are spending hundreds of billions of dollars on “doomsday weapons.”

US, China, Russia cant make a face on this one.

I've been thinking this ever since Crimea was annexed... that, North Korea's insane regime, and China building islands and annexing fishing grounds/shipping lanes from other countries... never been closer to global war since the height of the Cold War... and now you have NATO prospective member Kosovo being monstered by Russian-backed Serbia...

"U.N. chief warns world is one step from 'nuclear annihilation'"

I think we could rephrase that just a bit given that "annihilate the WORLD" is just the usual Human mindless grandiosity. It would be more appropriate to say that "Mankind is one step from fumigating the world of itself." The massive and poisonous scars on the face of Life that we call 'cities' will heal and disappear. Whatever remains will grow and prosper and develop into new forms and behaviors and, perhaps, a true co-operative 'intelligence'. And "the world" will not even miss us anymore than it misses the dinosaurs. This may seem to some a bleak and misanthropic comment but overweening self-importance, total blindness to our obvious unimportance to this infinite Universe, and casual indifference to the monsters who live among us and who destroy Life and all that makes Life worthwhile labels us, marks us as insignificant and more of a blight than light to this planet. Just sayin'...

Iran “has either been unwilling or unable” to accept a deal to return to the 2015 nuclear agreement aimed at reining in its nuclear program

Well gee, I wonder why? Just because the last administration ripped up that agreement and wiped its orange backside on it, and Der Pumpkinfuhrer still holds half the country in his tiny-handed thrall doesn't mean you should dare to hold a certain degree of scepticism when a man approaching 80 gives you a pinkie promise.

If Fascist Russia and Commie China think they can start and win a nuclear war - they are deluded. All of their major cities would be reduced to dust if they ever launched a nuke.

Um, problem is… we would also be “reduced to dust”. … as the saying goes, there would be no winner, nothing/nobody left to celebrate, if everything and everybody’s dead. ”Victory” would be like a fart in the wind.

We should all stop worrying and start loving the nuclear bomb, just like Stanley Kubrick suggested in Dr. Strangelove.

The real threat is not of nuclear weapons, but of Russians poisoning the American water supply which will affect their precious bodily fluids.

Useless waste of breath by all participants. When push comes to shove, one (and only one) mentally disturbed crackpot is all it will take. My bet is on the one in the Kremlin.

American's will be very unhappy as events continue to show them they're not the dominant economic power, their conventional military isn't up to winning war's against anything but the weakest opponents without having to abandon parts of their 'deterrence' presence, and that most of their 'bloc' only toed whatever line America drew out of fear, not love and respect.

So they might launch a 'preemptive limited strike' or a 'proof of willingness' strike, or whatever self justifying name they come up with to convince themselves that, as the 'good guys' they can use nuclear weapons without setting off a nuclear war, especially as their domestic politics become more extreme.

And their 'special friend' might also launch nuclear weapons in 'self defense' of course (In their minds if no one elses).

But despite the US shouting its delusions and projections, I don't see anyone else likely to fire nuclear weapons first.

Pompous hypocrites pose a much greater danger to the world than the miniscule actual chance of a nuclear war. Guterres probably jumped straight into a private jet straight after his lecture to a meeting where he'll lecture us on the coming climate catastrophe, without the slightest hint of self-awareness.

“We believe that a nuclear war cannot be won and must never be fought, and we stand for equal and indivisible security for all members of the world community,” the Russian leader said.

Putin is not the problem.

The primary concern is with the terrorist regime in Iran. That country must never be allowed to gain nuclear weapons.

I'm so sick of having my life held hostage by little men who want to play king of the hill. Put down your sticks and talk to each other.

Interesting fact the unlike the states the final go is with the general who is in charge of the nuclear warheads. Maybe the people and the generals are getting tired of Vlad the Invader! Fingers crossed.

Putin is not the problem.

The primary concern is with the terrorist regime in Israel. That regime must never be allowed to pretend it is in any way normal.

Fixed

The J. Govt has mulled using Subway stations as makeshift shelters in the case of a Nuclear attack.... though that idea quickly evaporated - I guess the mass hysteria of rushing to the nearest subway station would cause mayhem, and anyway when the Nuke goes off, all the air within the surrounding area would be sucked out from wherever, and subway stations wouldn't really be a valid option. So it looks like the most likely option for us Civilians, is simply to perish within an unannounced Explosion. Hope it's quick and painless.

Its been that way for a long time. Maybe the UN can solve the problem.

U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken said North Korea is preparing to conduct its seventh nuclear test, Iran “has either been unwilling or unable” to accept a deal to return to the 2015 nuclear agreement aimed at reining in its nuclear program, and Russia is “engaged in reckless, dangerous nuclear saber-rattling” in Ukraine.

Funny that the secretary of the U.S., the first ever country that developed and used atomic bombs, sort of a trailblazer of the era of nuclear wars, should accuse North Korea, Iran and Russia for conceiving to possess and use nuclear weapons,

Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida's plea for nations to stick to NPT will fall on the deaf ears of conference participants, despite the fact that Japan is the only country that suffered atomic bombings, and as far as it seeks the U.S. nuclear umbrella for protection.

childish to believe that Russia is fascist when they are the ones who defeated Nazism in the Second World War

they are also the ones who signed the Molotov - Ribbentrop pact in 1938, which divided Poland, Lithuania, Estonia & Latvia with the nazis

The thing is, he comes off as a both sides "whataboutist" implying that we all just get along.

Um, its Russia that violated its security accords with Ukraine. It's Russia that is threatening tactical nuke use to make up for its conventional incompetence.

So, not "both sides".
