General Assembly President Abdulla Shahid told the assembly before the resolution’s adoption that sport “brings together people of every religion, race, ethnicity, and political background to celebrate humanity’s athletic prowess and potential.”

As a senior UN member, Mr Abdulla Shahid should mention as well to bring together different genders and LGBT+.

Otherwise his request for truce to celebrate humanity is just irrelevant.

There's always been gay athletes whether our governments 'like' it or not. However in some countries that's an excuse to persecute them, as in Russia and Uganda where that can get you killed.

The UN isn't the clown. It's the entire circus

I also rememer that for over a decade 'Federal republic of Yugoslavia' (Serbia/Montenegro) was also banned for the Games (and kicked out of the UN) for all the genocidal wars and 'ethnic cleansing' crap courtesy of Slobodan Milosevic. While I was in college there was an obscene derogatory nickname for him that rhymned with his last name.

The real question is : when is China going to declare a truce against committing mass genocide on millions of Muslim Uyghurs, and other citizens they despise?

It’s a big lie like the weapons of mass destruction

No, it's real: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Uyghur_genocide

The CCP don't like us talking about it though, the same way they don't like us talking about how they murdered thousands of innocent unarmed protestors in Tienanmen square in '89: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tienanmen_Square_Massacre

The CCP are the biggest danger the rest of the planet faces right now. They have been turning up the heat on the water, and the world is starting to jump out of the pot. The only question is how late we are.

How about the UN boycott the Beijing Winter Olympics while also asking the world to stop fighting for a month to ponder the ethnic genocide currently taking place in Communist China? That would be a better thing for them to do.

The real question is : when is China going to declare a truce against committing mass genocide on millions of Muslim Uyghurs, and other citizens they despise?

It’s a big lie like the weapons of mass destruction or the white powder detergent in Iraq. When asked what the motive is for the genocide, concern for high growth of ethnic minority population is given. Now that really makes a lot of sense. There are too many of them so let’s round them up and commit genocide. You actually believe this?

The population in Xinjiang has one of the fastest growing populations in China, jumping 18.3 per cent between 2010 and 2020 as well as Tibet, which has the highest birth rate in the country.

All this while the birthrate of Uighurs and Han Chinese is decreasing across the country. China must not be very good at genocide.

A resolution ?

I will believe it when it happens

as same s they did in summer of 2008 in Ingushetia?

Where?

remember agression lead by Saakashvili?

Nope.

U.N. urges all nations to observe truce during winter Olympics in Beijing

While this is a laudable ideal to promote peace, the reality is in some area's people fight a daily battle for their lives, for their rights and freedoms and those things will not take a back seat to a sporting event for "those who qualify and can afford to compete".

Rebels everywhere are not going to give up the fight for six weeks to allow stronger and more numerous forces to redeploy, rearm and refresh.

As for terrorists, they seem to care nothing about peace and life, but only about how many they can kill.

Why does anyone care about the Olympics? I don’t get it.

2 ( +2 / -0 )

why not urge perennial truce, got as much chance of everyone doing so. just more political theatre, which is what the U.N. is best at.

IOC is a joke, a crooked organization on the take from China. All nations will ignore this laughable request.

The real question is : when is China going to declare a truce against committing mass genocide on millions of Muslim Uyghurs, and other citizens they despise?

Boycott the Genocide Games 2022.

Yep, let's all just forget that China is a genocidal dictatorship.

Apartheid South Africa was banned for decades. And as for a genocidal dictatorship, Myanmar takes the cake with all those internal ethnic wars they wage against people who speak languages they don't like.

now now lets all get along and play well with others.

With all the manipulation that went on last year, surprised a similar headline doesn’t read: “Bach/IOC urges all nations to observe truce during winter Olympics in Beijing” - Certainly it’s coming in the near future. (Watch the “Sports” page.) - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ulll9K7gnD0 -

They are joking, right!!! Only the privileged and the entitled can think of saying something like that! There are places in this world where people are in so much misery and hatred that the idea of Olympics does not exist!!!

Cant have much equality, when you have winners and losers.

Easy solution, give everyone who participates a gold medal!

How does the concept of "put differences aside" and "we're all the same" tie up with competing under your countries flag? How can you have a "we won" attitude, and claim that generates equality?

Cant have much equality, when you have winners and losers.

“a tool to promote peace, dialogue and reconciliation.”

The problem is, that China never used, do not use and will never use such a tool!

U.N. urges all nations to observe truce during winter Olympics in Beijing

Have the UN witnessed any of the Olympics in the last 200+ years?

Apparently not.

2 ( +5 / -3 )

Isn't that what the spirit of the Olympics supposed to be in the first place? Put all your differences aside and compete athletically? And during the original Olympic Games didn't all wars between the Greek city-states cease?
