While Trump has made Columbia the most visible target of his crackdown on higher education, he has put other universities on notice that they will face cuts if they do not embrace his agenda.

Rubbish.

Trump is a petty micro-manager. The level that he inserts himself into anything he doesn't like just shows that all the claims he's made that he knew nothing about illegal activity during his trials were completely bogus.

I think protesting is part of being at University. I did it. But we knew there were limits. The University setup central places for booths to inform others about the issues. There must have been 20 different booths setup daily for years. Every night, they had to be removed and they weren't allowed on weekends. That was the deal with the University. One specific area of campus was allowed for protests and fliers. It was in a central area that many students and faculty visited daily, not off in a corner of campus.

One group barricaded themselves into the University's President office for almost 24 hours. In the end, everyone inside was ejected from school who was a student. About half were not students at all. When non-students get involved on campus, the entire tone of the protests changes. Technically, non-students are trespassing when on campus without school-related reasons.

Regardless, Trump doesn't have any business dictating faculty at any University as US President. His department heads, if they fund any research, can provide direction related to that funding. I seriously doubt the USGovt is funding middle-east studies.
