Growth in Australia coronavirus cases slows, but experts urge caution

That's good. Hopefully the strict lockdown is what has caused the slowdown.

A sign of hope, perhaps. Also to note, temps are cooling down now since Australia is now in the autumn season.

Encouraging news. Good to see a cause for optimism.

This is what happens when leaders take control and take the necessary steps to control the spread of the virus regardless of the cost and inconvenience to the public. All beaches and national parks are closed. All pubs, clubs, restaurants and cafes are closed. Police are patrolling the streets looking for people who are outside without good reason. Anybody coming into the country is put straight into two weeks quarantine. Unfortunately, I cannot see the Japanese government taking these kinds of drastic actions to control the spread of the virus. Koike has ‘asked’ people not to go out after work, but people are still packed into trains like sheep every morning and afternoon to keep the wheels of Japan Inc turning.

Still in Autumn, Winter is to come - the big questions is with the fatalities are they dying from coronavirus or are they dying from something else but have coronavirus.

The Australian government acted reasonably well for the last four or more weeks. While most Australian's are doing their bit to follow the instructions from the Government, there are still many publicans or tourists (who came before the restrictions) who are not helping as the Police are dispersing crowds on a daily basis.

Sadly, some infections came by boats that were not refused on time.

This is my 2nd week working from home, and flights back to Japan are cancelled for the rest of the year. We are urged “Do not leave your home unless you absolutely have to”.

The NSW government has really stuffed up big this time.

Someone else posted that restaurants were closed in the US, which they are not, like you said, takeout and deliveries are all OK. A lot of folks are spreading the fear more than the virus.

Somebody in the state of Georgia was holding bonfire parties where there 60 people together. He was arrested. And a megachurch pastor in Tampa Bay got busted for holding 2 services and he too got busted. He's whining behind the First Amendment and claims to have machines that destroy the coronavirus once you enter his megachurch! Yeah!

If we look at what happened with the flu outbreak of 1918-1919, it may give us an idea of what to watch out for with this outbreak.

After starting in January 1918, the flu seemed to recede during the northern-hemisphere summer months. However, it came back with a vengeance in the fall of 1918, and there were more fatalities in 1919 than in 1918.

A vaccine was never developed for the swine flu of 1918-19, but it finally did stop being a pandemic. I certainly do not know why it went away, but perhaps the phenomenon of herd immunity had something to do with it. A Google search says that one third of the world became infected. Given what we have seen this time with asymptomatic carriers, it is easy to imagine that the number of people who became infected was over fifty percent. If almost all of those who became infected were later immune, it would help to explain why the earlier flu finally subsided. That, and the fact that so many people died; as much as two thirds of a million in the USA, and between 50 million and 150 million worldwide. Perhaps those least able to fight the flu were also those who were least likely to survive, and to pass on their genes.
