Zaphod - first COVID-19 case - Are we now going to hear about every single "case" of this infection with a mortality rate of 0.05? Good grief

Perhaps your flippant remarks would be curtailed if you were one of the 0.05%?

A single case and action is taken to avoid one case becoming hundreds.

Please stop giving fake figures on the virus mortality rate. Much depends on getting good medical assistance as has been shown in India with its collapsing medical system.

The nation with the highest death rate of 19.6% is Yemen. The lowest is 0.1% and that is in Burundi.

Five countries have between 5% and 10%. Your chances of survival depend on many factors including which variant you get and which country you are in with the infection.

No country on the list has a 0.05% mortality rate.

Two weeks is nothing. An Indian guy returning to Hong Kong from Dubai spent 3 weeks in quarantine and was found with the Indian variant after he finished quarantine. Either the virus was dormant for a very long time or he caught it in quarantine. Unfortunately he then passed it onto his Filipina girlfriend and several others were found to have caught it too. He is now awaiting trial and his girlfriend will appear in court after her fever subsides because it turns out they lied and didn't tell authorities they attended parties and gatherings which turned out to be super-spreader events.

That's why it's important to act urgently and do track and trace. Hong Kong has now gone several days with no local infections. And like Australia, they want to keep it that way. Japan can learn lessons from these incidents (if it wants to).

Yes, every case in Australia and New Zealand is reported by JT, and previously Thomson Reuters or AFP.
