Well, obviously if everyone stays alone in a hole, the numbers will go down. Until....

Yeah, as I said until:

they just bring it down to a manageable level.

Like everything in nature, the virus actually does have a certain intelligence of sorts. It seeks to spread itself.

No it doesn't. It's non-thinking, it doesn't have intent. It exists and does what it does as it needs to. It doesn't have committees to decide which area of humanity to work on next.

Memoryfix, you clearly have no concept of viruses or epidemiology. I recommend Wikipedia for some basic insights.

They don’t bring it down. It just waits around till people come outside in a weaker condition.

So it does bring down the numbers while people are inside. Then, when the numbers become manageable, the people can go out again.

Or, your lockdown will just make it go somewhere else where people are outside.

Um, do you think the virus is like spring break partiers or something?

How about this idea. Lockdowns only extend the virus’s presence. The more we lock down, the more it just moves around to kill people elsewhere. Why would we think that lockdowns can trick a disease into disappearing?

Who is telling you that lockdowns can trick the disease into disappearing? They can’t have been very smart. Maybe you should stick to listening to sources that actually know what they’re talking about. Lockdowns won’t eradicate the disease, they just bring it down to a manageable level.

Humans are so arrogant and egotistical.

Lockdowns don't work and just cause more socio-economic suffering long-term

What data sources are you using to determine that lockdowns don't work? And what data sources are you using that they cause more socio-economic suffering than the virus? Or is your conclusion actually just a general feeling you have from reading the media you consume?

Ego Sum Lux Mundi - Lockdowns don't work and just cause more socio-economic suffering long-term

Um, lockdowns do work to control the spread of the virus. What has happened in Melbourne proves this. Furthermore, look at countries in Europe and the US who have not taken lockdowns seriously and have hundreds or thousands of new cases every day. I’m pretty sure that if your mother had to have all her limbs amputated because of corona virus complications your opinion would be quite different.

People please read the whole article before commenting.

South Australia authorities first reported three locally-acquired COVID-19 cases on Sunday, saying the outbreak was caused by a worker from a quarantine hotel infecting family members. By Monday, case numbers had jumped to 17.

The cluster is caused by a lapsy in quarantine. Australia is still relatively covid safe. There is no lockdown here. Just some restrictions like Japan.

Australia is big with relatively small population sparsely scattered across in cities with not too high population densities. The lockdowns and restrictions have surpassed covid. Of course whether it is worth the cost and inconvenience it has caused is debatable.

A few days ago the government has announced if everything goes as planned. People will start getting vaccinations next March which is the end of summer. It looks increasing likely that all the masks my wife has bought as precautions will never be needed.

This never goes away.  going to be just another virus (like seasonal flu and the like) that we will have to learn to live with.

We know that lockdowns aren't going to eradicate the coronavirus.

That is your or the official hypothesis. But how do you know that? There hasn’t been any lockdown which deserves that name anywhere up to now. In contrary, a real lockdown would eradicate the problem once and for all or at least substantially reset the problem, but no one dares to implement one because of some real and fictive business and psychological reasons. Instead we are lied to and sedated by daily announcements of vaccines and there free distribution, easy to handle infection numbers and other crazy fairy tales. Eternal sine curves of vaccination and new exponentially growing infection waves or one real lockdown for a duration period of its preparation plus the 70 days the viruses can survive in vivo. That’s the choice that has to be done, as for now.

I think they can't keep locking down for months every time it comes back. The economic cost is just too great. .

This is in a different state and they are taking actions immediately, not waiting until the problem is out of control. Any lockdown should be minimal and this should be controllable. It is the only way to stop the virus from killing hundreds of thousands. We will not follow Europe or America and put dollars before lives.

We will do what we need to do in order to minimize the impacts on mortality first and economy second.

Lockdowns don't work and just cause more socio-economic suffering long-term.

Wrong. Lockdowns have been proven as the only thing that will reduce an out of control covid explosion, and the best way to save lives.

The purpose of the lockdowns anywhere is to contain transmission, avoid overwhelming healthcare facilities and save lives. It’s not hard to understand. The financial costs attached to lockdowns are massive, but the costs attached to death are also huge. The humane approach is the right one.

So stupid. They can continue this whack-a-mole forever, but the virus will of course run its course.

Nothing but a political power play, disappointing to see that Australian politicians go for it.

100% agree!

I don't know how many times I said that Lockdowns doesn't make any sense. But I only received complains here.

But now you see...

Lockdowns contains the virus for a while. And then after the Lockdowns, it comes back!

The Virus will always come back, because you can not make the Virus disappear like magic with Lockdowns.

Only a Vaccine can do that!

I don't know what the Australien Government is expecting? To kill the Virus with Lockdowns?

That is impossible...after 11 months now...they should understand that.

I don't known when or if ever the people will understand that....

Lockdowns don't work and just cause more socio-economic suffering long-term. To paraphrase Heidegger: "We aren't getting out of this without some sort of vaccine"
