It is one city of 4 million people (Melbourne). It is not the whole of Australia. Most states of Australia are virtually virus free.

These cases are in a few hot spots and are all locally transmitted. It has sparked a bit of prejudice against Victorians because of it. The rugby league and Australian rules football are just starting up again, but Victorians are not invited to stadiums. There has been talk of introducing border restrictions again, but have been denied at this stage.

My views in this case echo those of Morrison

The southern areas of Oz are prime breeding grounds for the virus., much the same way air conditioned buildings are In Japan.

Andrews said about 100,000 tests will be conducted over the next 10 days.

10,000 test a day. Far more than what the whole waga nippon does.

You test massively and when the numbers keep decreasing that is when you know the virus is in check. Any after conclusion with meager testing is like moving around blindfolded and boasting you are on the right track when you aren't.

The problem is people think its over. Maybe one in 50 wear a mask in public as it is not encouraged here. When I venture out for my weekly supply run it looks like there is no pandemic.

It may well get much worse here before it is really over.
