Why aren't folks here comparing the numbers. Not that different to Japan but Australia has a much smaller population.

According to a lot of JT posters, Japan has dropped the ball, done a terrible job, are clueless, etc but perhaps that isn't the complete truth. I find them wanting on many other issues but with this crisis, I think they have done quite well. (I do expect a lot of down-votes from some peeps and that is OK)

The fact is that very few people are dying from this virus now, probably due to better treatment.

Ozellis because if you do actually compare the numbers you'll find that Japan has 27K infections and 1000 deaths, compared to Australia's 13K cases and 128 deaths.

So if you look at the actual death rates, Japan doesn't really come out looking too great by comparison.

David, Japan’s true cumulative number of infections is likely far higher, but low testing is hiding the true count.

The exemplary country for me with regards to measures would be South Korea.

They had an explosion of cases at the start but were able to control it.

Without resorting to lockdowns.

People should not judge the country based on one city. That is just very naive. The recent outbreak in Melbourne came about because of a few very stupid people ignoring the safety guidelines. One of these infected idiots went to a nightclub in Sydney and spread the virus there too. Australia is around the same size as the US with a much smaller population and great distances between major cities. Most of the country remains virus free after the restrictions were lifted.

One socialst state government let the rest of the country down.

Funny thing that...

The same state that sold us to China for their belt and road program without telling the federal government.

Funny thing that....

Dayvid Le-e and others need to consider the ages of the 2 populations here , plus a load of other variables like density, etc.

On a comparative basis Japan is doing fine, with an educated mass of bods that who for the most part listen to the advice that is being given.

I expect that Australia might be tested here and may even beat Japan in some COVID category. Who of us here doesn't like a competition.

The Australian's oft -neglected feral community could twist numbers here. It is a wait and see situation.
