This is what to expect when you take millions of people from countries where trust deficits, in politicians, institutions, and each other, is completely the norm. Those attitudes are highly resilient and far more likely to infect the locals than expecting “she’ll be right” nonchalance to transform the attitudes of the new chums.

Japan should be absolutely proud of themselves for starting this worldwide toilet paper purchasing trend.

I thought toilet paper problem is only in Japan. in Australia? My toilet washlet is equipped with washer and drier functions. I don't need much paper.

A large percentage of the Australian population are Chinese. There was video on the news last night about Costco in Sydney selling out thousands of rolls of TP (a container load) in under an hour. Nearly every one of the hoarders were Chinese.
Face masks sold out everywhere weeks ago in the same circumstances.

HUH, is this fake news or real world?
What did people do in the old days when there was no toilet paper?
At an Asahi, I saw a large crowd standing at the doorway for it to open, so much for avoiding large crowds right. When the doors opened people just shoved and pushed, all ages too, men and women. Though 1 per purchaser is enforced, I saw 2 kids, a grandpa, grandma and both parents each with 1 pkg ea for that family meaning they bought 6 packages for that household. Plus they all stampeded and literally grabbed, pushed and did whatever it took to get that 1 pkg of toilet paper. Meanwhile the MFG warehouses are full yet the stores are not receiving enough of their orders despite all the media coverage and warehouse showing full. The paper needs to be at the store level where the people are not sitting in a large box at some warehouse. That does't make things better. The excuse is no drivers , well hire them. I have a large van, I can outsource myself and deliver them to their stores. Manager and company executives, try working for a change and drive out there by renting a truck and delivering them yourselves to the stores. There are many options out there to get the products to the stores but no planning again, no creative thinking. Old style not working.

Shat outside and used leaves. Is that what you're suggesting the Aussies do?

The TP games began in Hong Kong and Singapore about a month ago.

when Chinese living in Australia hoarding goods, now it's official, they are to blame
Wesley
The trend was started by the Chinese in Hong Kong.
Wesley
That explains it.

IIRC, it was corn cobs and Sears catalogues. Doesn’t Australia grow corn?
lucabrasi
Don't they?
Another local tradition ruined by the onslaught of "civilisation".
Strangerland
Alas, no Sears.
Madverts
Same here in France.
Retards !

Was at a Costco in Melbourne today, people were going crazy loading trolleys up with Toilet paper, paper towel, bottled water and rice - then on the drive home the radio news said the police had to be called to a supermarket in Sydney because people were fighting over toilet paper - wondering if these people understand that they can use news paper as a plan b.

Can someone tell me how senior homes are dealing with this shortage? I know they are short on masks and stores should save some for disabled

LOL! How did he keep a straight face saying this.
Come on, mate. Let's be fair. There are many Asian who are hoarding but there are white Aussies doing it, too.
Zaphod
I thought the toilet paper obsession was Japanese thing..

@Andrew Crisp
The ironic think here is that in Japan, many households still actually subscribe to newspapers.
In Australia not so much. They have gone full digital a long time ago. That plan B isn't available for Aussies, mate!

Yes. Hoarding has no color. I am looking at Costco US YouTube. And yes. Very multicultural , of all nationalities going crazy
just on the masks business , I picked out one country men/women

I read that one Aussie newspaper was trying to change things:
