Now it’s CO2-neutral and still complaining? lol

"Images of corpses drifting down the Ganges river, which Hindus consider holy, have shocked a nation reeling under the world's worst surge in infections."

Actually there is nothing shocking about it if one is from India. Even when there was no COVID, this used to be common as unclaimed bodies of folks who died poor or without a family (no one to pay for their last rites) were seen dumped in the 'holy' river. But now, what is shocking is the hypocrisy from the Modi's BJP government which claims to be 'Hindu' and 'nationalist' but turns a blind eye to these reports of dead bodies being dumped in the river.

Dead men do tell tales as it turns out.

All these unclaimed bodies are not part of official COVID statistics. This lady estimated that between 1 to 2 million Indians are already dead of COVID and many more will die.

India would have surpassed the US in deaths by a multiple for sure. Well, Modi did promise Indians that he will make India a 'world leader' when he came to power.

So it's common place to have bodies dumped in the river there but now because there is alleged covid-19 infected bodies being dumped its somehow a bigger issue than before? 20 or so 'every now and then' (what does that even mean?!) was ok but now it's 'thousands' so it's come to people's attention. Now? Bizzare on many levels if any truth, which given the 'reporting' in past years is becoming difficult to know.

Yeah, I mentioned this last week when talking about the severity of the problem.

Also, there is a shortage of wood to bury the dead, but it is very common for the poor to bury the dead by water in India. The problem is large numbers of people are dying at once. They were probably never diagnosed because they could not afford a hospital, so the infection and death related count lower than it should.

Modi, Bolsnara, trump, Putin, lil Kim, Abe, Johnson, and Xi are all enemies to their own people and countries! They have killed so many because of their selfishness and incompetence!

China does the same with animal corpses in the past, but not so much with humans.

Are the corpses diseased and contaminated?

It is a custom of religions around the world to water burials. The US even did it to Bin Laden.

It really shocks me when I see people just putting their toes in that river, let alone bathe in the water. Filthy river.

Images of corpses drifting down the Ganges river, which Hindus consider holy, have shocked a nation reeling under the world's worst surge in infections.*

correction: which many stupid

It is one of the dirtiest rivers in the world (probably second most after  Citarum River, Indonesia).

What else one can expect when their "supreme leader" is so incompetent. It is a crime, no less than genocide. I am feeling sorry for the Indian peoples.

I do not know what the news is supposed to be here. Bodies have always been dumped into the Ganges (that is a long-standing issue, they have even been breeding flesh-eating turtles to address this), and now with the infection, some of them had Corona. Where is the story?

-1 ( +4 / -5 )

Everyone should thank Modi for this disaster!

People travel from all over India to drink the Holy waters directly from the river.

"I do not know what the news is supposed to be here. Bodies have always been dumped into the Ganges (that is a long-standing issue, they have even been breeding flesh-eating turtles to address this), and now with the infection, some of them had Corona. Where is the story?"

The story is that earlier there used to be a few 10-20 bodies, but now there are thousands of bodies floating down in a few days, and thousands more simply buried near the river banks.

If this does not point to an increase in deaths then not sure what does.

None of these are part of official statistics, since the government is officially counting only those dying in hospitals as COVID deaths. For COVID deaths, there is an official protocol for cremation of dead bodies.

https://www.news18.com/news/india/what-are-the-rules-for-handling-bodies-of-covid-victims-ensuring-hygiene-during-funeral-3652532.html

No one can seriously believe the COVID numbers that the Modi government is dishing out to fool their own country, and fool the entire world. No one except die hard brainwashed Modi dumb-bhakts.

Doesn't prove anything. As some point out there's always been numerous corpses floating in and on the edges of that river. It's just the way bodies are cremated and dumped in the river.

Even in the midst of a pandemic, commentators are quick to try and blame the Indian right wing for anything and everything. Recent electoral losses by the BJP were not on behalf of the left wing but votes went to regional right wing and centrist parties - not left wing. And the the Bengal variant is already causing trouble in the Seychelles (highest two dose vaccination rate in the world) and the UK, and could be possible for upticks in Malaysia, Singapore and Taiwan. Yet left wing and media prefer to find any time possible to blame the right wing for everything. Hence why I refuse to support left wing Muslim causes such as Palestine and Kamala Harris.

"I assume you cannot drink this river water?"

Actually many of the poorer Indians do depend on the river for their drinking water needs. The water supply in many nearby areas also comes from this river, however it is treated. The affluent Indians all have water purifiers in their homes.

"When I was a kid in Florida we swam in murky rivers watching out for gators. Fortunately I never saw a dead body."

That's cool. There is another Indian river Chambal, a tributary of the Ganges. Many Hindus regard it as cursed as per the Hindu mythology, due to which folks keep away from it. Ironically, due to this it is one of the cleaner Indian rivers, where dolphins thrive and also species of crocs called Gharial.

Are you sure? Normal daily death rate in India is 7000. Has this increased by thousands? Can you show a reference? If not, this is just an empty claim.

https://thewire.in/health/ganga-covid-19-bodies-uttar-pradesh

If you actually read the article, you soon find that this is about rising costs of cremations, and not about additional thousands of deaths.

For years, Ganges has been one of the most polluted rivers in the world. With corpses dumped freely into the river, it is getting worse, becoming undesirable and unacceptable.

However, the sudden surge of new Covid variant had killed hundred thousands, the very poor do not even have money to cremate the dead bodies. It is really sorrowful and melancholic..
