Canada to set up border camp as number of asylum seekers swells

This is a step in the right direction. if Canada has more leniency regarding illegal immigration, then there should be a natural flow of illegal immigrants out of the continental U.S. to the North.

How many of those asylum seekers were American?!

Refugee status is not given to foreigners who flee an illegal situation in one country and enter yours.  What will they say, that they were hiding out in the U.S. for fear of being deported all those years?  And now that the likelihood of being exposed, caught, and actually deported is very real, they up and walk to the next land and expect to have no problems?  from the pan to the fire ( except that Canadians are sooo nice and kind they just might have a better time of it and be sent home.

Canada has to be really careful from now. Look at the state of other countries that have let open the floodgates to refugees. Keep Canada safe!

I wonder what the reaction would be if a natural disaster hit the US, one so big that the country was barely liveable in? Or a devastating war?

Imagine if the innocent and desperate citizens of the US had no choice but to flee?

Many Haitians who had been living in Canada for years have since raced to get permanent residency on humanitarian or compassionate grounds.

How do you rationalise the fact that the most desperate Haitians are still in Haiti and they have not made it to Canada because they were either too poor or unfit to travel or their good morals prevented them from intentionally breaking the law? Is this the model of refugee protection we should be rewarding? How many Haitians in Haiti could a single Canadian welfare cheque house, feed, and cloth? Is it more than 1?

I believe Canada gives money to support Haiti.  Is it called a foreign aid programme?  One thing a Canadian welfare cheque is covering is heating in wintertime.  Haitians don't suffer the cold.  Also Haitians don't pay rent to live on a freezing rock like Canadians do. A check for a single person in Canada for say $1000 could surely support a few families in Haiti I guess, but it's a misguided question/comparison, right? I do like what you said before that, though

This Canadian says the so-called refugees will be properly processed, and while living in tents (which will be heated - it gets cold in Quebec, from October 'til April) they'll be fed, too. Small price for Canadians to pay. At least half of them, from past figures posted, will either be sent back to the US or to Haiti.

And the for record, a single person on welfare in Canada gets a lot less than $1000 a month.

Why would Americans move to Canada as refugees? The ones who promised to if Trump won never even went as promised.

Perhaps the entire population could be relocated to Canada, should they wish.

They should certainly avoid the current fascism at large in the US.

Haiti is devastatingly poor, but so is eastern Canada, for example.  Canada has serious poverty issues of its own.  We cannot take in people fleeing from an illegal situation, then just forgive and forget.  Welfare support in a place like the Maritimes where you followed your papa onto welfare (who followed his own papa, too) could not be much below $1000.  Even there rents will not be below 300 a month for a rooming house.  The city of Saint John, New Brunswick is full of young people on welfare ( who marry others on welfare and have children who pretty much grow up to be adults on welfare).  Very few immigrants choose to live in the eastern provinces for this reason.  Hamilton. Canada has such long-term poverty that social assistance rules and guidelines are extremely precise and controlled.  Every possible situation is regulated, for example, your soon to be adult son can receive welfare while still living at home ( i.e. he is not forced to leave home and rent in order to be covered). 

It is a pretty hopeless life for many Canadians....not unlike the Haitians ( still, an unfair comparison, I know ((so don't jump on my head, please)) ).
