China has never claimed any of these islands that ate many thousands of miles from mainland US. All these have been claimed by the US!

Agree. good point. You'll get down-voted by the usual group of US cheerleaders here, tho.

Sucks to not have an international network of allies, China.

unfortunaelty the more the US pressures China/Russia the more itll push them together. Not even America can contain a united China & Russia

@extanker

China has absolutely zero say in it.

Of course, then China will launch economic retaliations against Japan, ban tourist trips to Japan, destroy Japanese cars on the street, we have been there before back in 2012.

-1 ( +0 / -1 )

So if Japan deploys own ballistic missile force, that's fine with China,

Sure. That's about as true as most of the incorrect propaganda you post about South Korea.

If US allies approve of US missiles being based in their countries as part of their defense, China has absolutely zero say in it. It's that simple.

@extanker

China: Hey you can't put missiles there! Our missiles? Don't know what you're talking about...

Chinese position is that they will tolerate weapons operated by neighboring nations, but oppose weapons put in place by the third-party nation, specifically the US.

So while China is fine with the ROK's massive ballistic missile force, China opposes deploying US ballistic missiles in Korea. Between North and South, there are 7,000 ballistic missiles right next door to China, but that's OK with China.

So if Japan deploys own ballistic missile force, that's fine with China, but China opposes deploying US ballistic missiles in Japan.

The real reason the US government entered the Pacific War was to build military bases and seize control of the region.

Let's see if it will be enough to scare off China and its allies now the battle for world domination has really started to break loose.

1 ( +3 / -2 )

Let me ask, again: Which nation has over 800 military bases around the world? Which nation is currently seeking to place more missiles in the Pacific and seeking to establish more bases?

Yes, we do and as long as you have a dangerous China, unpredictable Russia and an unstable NK, you’ll definitely see more, might not be a bad thing to keep the peace and to keep Japan, SK, Vietnam and the Philippines from falling into these crazy countries mitts.

Which nation has toppled more than 20 governments in the past 70 years?

Some of them justly, some not so good. Saddam and Gaddafi was definitely a Good thing.

Which nation is currently threatening military action against NK, Iran, Venezuela...?

With good and a very valid and justifiable reason.

Which nation spends more on its military than all other nations put together?

You have a lot of countries asking for our assistance, want our money and instead of building up their military depend on us to bail them out, I want it to stop personally, but these leaders don’t.

Which nation pulled out of the intermediate-range nuclear force treaty? Which nation is establishing a Space Force to militarise space?

So you’re saying Russia can upgrade and develop newer, faster and more updated IRM, China doesn’t have to or forced to join, but we have to sit back and allow China to race ahead and get the advantage over us, when they don’t abide by the treaty?Nope, I’m glad we got of that BS.

Answers to the above tells which nation is a warmonger and the biggest threat to global stability.

If we were a warmonger, NK would be a tinderbox. With the technology we have, we can use it to ensure peace and safety in the region.

In the interest of their self preservation, China must continue to develop its military defence capability in the South China Sea.

And so shall we which you helped me to underscore my point. Being in the Intermediate-Range Nuclear Force Treaty.

As I've said on many occasions, we are following the US into a global nuclear apocalypse. It is up to us, the people, to put a stop to US aggression and warmongering.

Oh, dear lord...ROFL!

Douglas Whitman: " Such as claiming parts of various seas/ocean as yours, even when it's off the coast of other nations?" Are you talking about Guam. Samoa, Marshall Islands, Baker Island, Johnston Island, Virgin Islands, Jarvis Island, Midway Island....?

China has never claimed any of these islands that ate many thousands of miles from mainland US. All these have been claimed by the US!

Countermeasures? Such as claiming parts of various seas/ocean as yours, even when it's off the coast of other nations? Or perhaps increasing your attempts to steal military secrets from Western nations? Building more manmade militarized islands? Ewwwwwww, scary.

-2 ( +2 / -4 )

If China put military though it said it was not the purpose of building the islands but yet first chance they militarized the rock man made islands, then the US should or Japan should do the same. It is not fair to be one sided, so too bad. boo hoo China. the US or Japan is not buying rhetoric. As for the trade war that is causing a fake sell off and currency manipulation is a unforgiven. Both the US and China like most countries use other countries to buy or sell their goods. Nothing has changed as cheap Chinese goods are still being bought and sold in the US and US produce is selling well via other market managing countries into China. The only ones laughing all the way to the bank or the bank owners and the losers are the gullible ones. Keep the markets as if nothing happens is what investors should do but they are only in it for their own profiteering at the expense of everyone else. My apologies to the moderator if this is some how off topic. Thank you.

@kaerimashita

Missiles in Okinawa, Hokkaido, Taiwan, Guam. nothing China can do.

Not South Korea as Moon is a lunatic.

Maybe Japan can offer up the Senkaku Islands as a missile base.

ROK : The ROK is a ballistic missile superpower, has more ballistic missiles than even North Korea. The biggest warhead conventional ballistic missile in the world is the ROK's. So they have no need for US conventional ballistic missile.

Australia : Too far away from China

Guam : Too far away from China

Japan : The most optimal location. Japan also has no ballistic missile of its own.

As I have been saying for AGES, in China the WEST has had a HUGE hand in creating the MONSTER that is the Chinese govt(not its people!)

WE feed this monster saying it would lead to better govt & society in China, but alas this has NOT happened, the MONSTER has only grown more belligerent & OPENLY HOSTILE to everyone around China...

So, what to do, well, we need to dis-engage economically. This is starting to happen but needs to speed up.

The other thing as I have always said is China is a fire cracker that is LIT......question is does China explode, implode or BOTH.....whatever happens it WILL likely get real nasty & cause a massive amount of death & destruction.

We are at the point where all we can do is watch & wait sadly....

The WEST should NEVER have fed the Chinese Monster, we will all pay for this massive MISTAKE!

Well,,,,I think we all mean that to prevent war we must build a credible deterrence so that they will not dare start a war. China can stuff their hissy fit when they have been on a massive military buildup and extending their territorial boundries closer to nations allied with the United States. A decade ago this was all a "what if" game, but with the current events in Hong Kong and the inevitable in Taiwan, this issue is on our doorstep.

1 ( +4 / -3 )

At the rate they are building navy destroyers its scary they must be stopped at all cost even if that means war.

So, to stop them from starting a war, war must be started.

Hmm...

Now that truly is a scary prospect.

NO to war. YES to dialogue.

With China pushing deep into the South China sea with military bases and runways for long range bombers putting it within reach of the Australian mainland, it is only prudent for Australia to deploy missiles that can reach the Chinese mainland. This is something that until recently has not been needed. With Chinese expansion and eyes on a move into the pacific this leaves little option but to address the imbalance.

Japan and South Korea are even closer and easier for China to hit with missiles they already have in their arsenal. Why shouldn't Japan have the ability to defend itself against any aggressor? South Korea also should prepare for the worst. China wont stop expanding until everyone does as it wants or until it hits a wall.

The way things are going, wouldn't it be better for countries to just disengage and each retreat and operate within its border precincts? A de- globalization of sorts and in time, build new relationships. Asia is complicated and if there is a spark, the fire is going to be super-intensive and very, very short .

Look at trump

Did you even read the article? Quote Mark Esper, not Trump. Love how some people segue from anything, anyone to 'TRUMP'.

EIS system in eastern Europe wasn't put there by Trump was it?

Seriously people, EIS has been a model of successful deployment of missile defence system. It stopped the missile race, heck they're all so friendly now Russia is building a pipeline to Germany!

Now, if say we had missile in Japan, that would certainly neutralizes the NK threat, SK, Japan, and everyone else can stop worrying about the big guy with the weird hair cut, just like Eastern Europe.

Of course China is going to throw a hissy fit, they gave NK nuke tech in the first place.

The Peking plutocrats with their delusions of grandeur have shamelessly banked on the gweilos sleepwalking to their doom. The cat however is well and truly out of the bag. In case anyone didn’t notice, One World has been unceremoniously put on the back burner, hang together or hang separately is becoming the new mantra and in consequence, Asia is becoming one humongous arc of instability.

None of this pointless escalation makes any sense, butgh then so little does these days.

China, which boasts an increasingly sophisticated land-based missile force

What's up with that? Isn't China a peaceful country?

-1 ( +7 / -8 )

Look at trump , big bully , this kind of action is the action of a greedy child. China must fight back. Trump has no human considerations, only money. When trump cannot get his money, this is what happens. abe learn something from this trump's action. All good Japanese , pls learn some thing from this trump action.

Beijing, like Washington and Moscow occasionally have to flex their muscles and strut their alpha male stuff.

It's tedious and pathetic and puts us all in danger.

If the people of each country were united, truly united - imagine how strong they would be. Their leaders know this, which is why they use distractions and curb freedoms.

They are terrified of the people.
