Did the incarceration cause the illness that killed the boy or did he contract the illness before the incarceration? In either case the CBP did their job and twice took the child to a hospital. Will we get an autopsy report?

The question is, this time as well as every time, whether or not he was provided with assistance as soon as he should have been.

Unfortunately, we're not likely to find that out due to the highly political nature of the topic.

Another child is dead this Christmas. And the right continue to victim blame.

They don't like being called out on their monstrous machinations.

Beyond words. What we're doing to these children is an utter moral failure.

Interesting argument the Trumpers have here;

It's not our fault you died  because we didn't provide you with water or adequate health care while in our custody - it's your fault that you can here to the US, and forced us to put you in confinement, and deny you your basic rights.

I hope Trumpers reflect on that a little - it's an argument you'd find in Mein Kampf....

@bass4funk

Don't come come in illegally and you won’t have to worry about running into the chance of losing your life or being turned back.

You obviously don't know why they are trying to enter the US and you probably never have dealt with USCIS before...But you continue to talk about stuff you really don't fully understand.

Regardless of my and your opinions on the wall, Trump, and US immigration, I find it unfair to post these unfortunate stories for the public to read. These kids walked thousands of kilometres for several weeks to get to the US. Some survived, many died along the way. These two happened to die upon arrival. It doesn't indicate human rights abuse or poor treatment. This is just knit picking by reporters to make Trump look bad.

Just for the record, I'm not a wall supporter

I think it is too early to ascribe blame here. Yes, the boot would probably be alive if he hadn't walked across America and I can see no evidence that this is the fault of the US authorities.

Perhaps they might have identified the problem if he had been at an American citizen but that is just speculation. I wonder if it was meningitis and the symptoms were not picked up, but again that is pure speculation.

Until we know, no one should point the finger of blame.

Of course, this is not the first time a vocal minority in the US has turned on migrants. The original America First movement was riddled with anti-Semites and ugly sentiment.

The late 1930s were rife with blatant displays of overt racism and xenophobia against immigrants and Jews. Since immigration of Eastern European Jews had dramatically increased until the US started restricting immigration through quotas in 1924, the two groups were often one and the same.One group, the Vindicator Association, called for young people to form vigilante "border patrols" to stop "alien criminals." A member of Congress said that America should "close, lock and bar the gates of our country … and then throw the keys away." An overwhelming majority of Americans wanted to reject Jewish refugees from Europe. Anti-Semites accused FDR of being secretly Jewish.

Carry on demonizing migrants, if you must, but history will record and judge. Meanwhile, as you enjoy your turkey and presents, think about the dead child and those who will die in the months to come. They have nothing, apart from a sliver of hope.

After Trump is impeached, try him in the World Court as an accessory to murder - it was his policies that contributed to these shameful deaths.

This is a cold blood crime, blame Donald Trump!

If where all these poor folks came from weren't such awful places then they wouldn't need to trek to the border.  Fix the source of the problem is a much better solution.  Regime change?  Stop the War of Drugs and reinvest the wasted money in helping those countries?

and in the meantime build the wall.

Parents who make their children walk 2000 miles away from their homes have no responsibility I suppose.

Exactly. If an American parent did that to their child the Left would demand the child be taken into custody by child protective services. Guatemalan parents seeking to illegally gain entry into the country force marches their child thousands of miles under the care of human trafficking coyotes and the Left demands the child be keep with their incompetent parents.

Not the child, of course it’s not his fault, but his father made the personal conscious choice to make that journey, his choice and sadly, he’s ultimately responsible for the tragic death of his son.

They don't like being called out on their monstrous machinations.

Should have stayed home. He’d still be alive.

This is not President Trumps fault. these people were told not to come, there is a legal process.  I put all the blame squarely on the father.  The only monstrous crime here is this child had a parent that gambled their life and lost.

This is a great reason to build a wall. South Americans keep sending sick children to America. They get FREE medical care , but some are too sick to help. A wall would protect children.

Lets build it for the kids !
