More like he was asked to leave after writing this piece for NYT criticizing the Indian governments handling of the pandemic.

India has allotted merely 14 million USD for genome sequencing which is critical to identify and understand the impact of variants. Contrast that with the amount spent on wasteful projects like the new parliament building or the new home for the PM.
