The Auckland lockdown is the first in New Zealand in six months,

I thought it was some more recent lockdowns in NZ, wasn't it ?

Hard fight there. Always need a lockdown. A country that has to impose systematic lockdowns and can not do it with simple prevention measures is failing

Always need a lockdown.

Um... from the article: "The Auckland lockdown is the first in New Zealand in six months".

Six months is hardly "always".

A country that has to impose systematic lockdowns and can not do it with simple prevention measures is failing

Um, in case you didn't notice, the people in NZ have been able to go to concerts, meet with people, have bbqs, and live a normal life. Unlike the places that use "simple prevention measures".

Nope. Nothing since August/September last year. The difference is NZ is following an elimination strategy, rather than containment. Once the lockdown is over and the virus has cleared, people carry on again with NO restrictions. Business recovers very quickly afterwards.

New Zealand's health department said on Monday there were no new cases of community transmission, but five in managed isolation facilities.

Little is usually ever uncovered on the first day of testing. Wait 3-5 days then we'll see.

Sorry, I think that a few weeks ago, it was an article about NZ and a lockdown or something after a positive case in quarantine. Am I wrong ?

Well, like many in Japan, I have a normal life and meet with people. I know it is not the case for everyone but .... And there are still concerts and events in Japan, for those who want to go. Not everything is canceled. The SoE will be lifted soon, so restaurants will be crowded again...

The lockdown looks to be a massive overreaction, but the current infections represent a massive failure of the Ardern government not getting border workers vaccinated.

In any case, it seems for now that these infections haven't spread beyond one family, so I imagine the restrictions won't stay for long.

Yes, I was effectively wrong. I was thinking about the below article

Could have saved yourself asking the question twice, if you had bothered to check before posting the first time.

Just saying that life for many can also be pretty normal here and activities are going on.

No you weren't. You were saying that "A country that has to impose systematic lockdowns and can not do it with simple prevention measures is failing". When I pointed out how it's not, you tried to create a false equivalency.

It's all there above.

And it has been the case for me because none of my usual activities, which are mainly outdoors activities, have been impacted by restrictions.

And is that the same for every person in the country, like it is in New Zealand?

Nope. And there is your false equivalency.

but the current infections represent a massive failure of the Ardern government not getting border workers vaccinated

Hardly. Rather, they represent failures in large swathes of the planet not even coming close to getting a handle on the pandemic, forcing New Zealand to accept incoming infections in an attempt to keep their borders open to returning citizens and residents. Innoculations of border workers begins this week or next, over a month ahead of schedule.

Hopefully, this current outbreak will be contained quickly and New Zealanders will return to the Covid free country they were living in for the previous six months, and the three months before the August/September partial lockdown.

If this is a massive overreaction, what should be done?

How many times will people compare NZ with Japan?

How many times are people praising how good NZ handles the Virus?

Ok, if it is so, than let it be.

For me personally to compare a country with a population of 4.9 Million with a country of 120 Million makes Zero Sense.

4,9 Million, the whole country population is just a third from just one big City in Japan.

The whole country population is much smaller than just one City in Japan.

But that was also mentioned already man times...

Give us a break with NZ.

This discussion makes no sense. Not even China could press it back in its Pandora box, so why do you expect, NZ, Japan, U.S., U.K. or anyone else will?

Aus in lockdown and NZ in lockdown yet again. So much for the lockdown strategy.

"The country was ranked the best performing nation in an index by Australia's Lowy Institute of almost 100 countries based on containment of the coronavirus."

The lockdown strategy is the worst strategy. Except for all the others.

please educate yourself - getting vaccinated does not prevent you from getting covid, or spreading it - it just prevents you from from getting horribly or even moderately sick.

4,9 Million, the whole country population is just a third from just one big City in Japan.

Which also means that NZ only has the relative resources of that 1/3 of a city.

Give us a break with NZ.

Which countires do you want Japan to be compared with? I'm guessing it is only those that have faired worse than Japan, otherwise the opportunity to point and gloat diminishes.

Don't be so envious. NZ's success does not necessarily mean that Japan has failed.

NZ triggers the trolls and those who prefer narrative over facts.

Top drawer.
