I smell regime change coming...

1 ( +4 / -3 )

If anyone should be prevented from being a steward of any part of this planet - Trump ticks every box.

10 ( +12 / -2 )

The most in debt country in the world is going to find a spare few Trillion dollars to purchase Greenland just so it can change its name to Trumpland. I don't think so.

10 ( +13 / -3 )

I don’t think people realize when people are getting punked.

-16 ( +3 / -19 )

The notion of purchasing the territory has been laughed off by some advisers as a joke but was taken more seriously by others in the White House, two sources familiar with the situation told Reuters on Thursday.

They're just doing what every other national leader is doing - laughing at the Great Orange Clown....

Of course, Putin laughs and gives hi-fives...

10 ( +12 / -2 )

On the one hand, Greenland a couple of hundred years from now may look like a pretty good place to live. On the other hand, I suspect The Big Orange One is using this topic as a way to deflect attention away from the many serious embarassments surrounding his presidency.

6 ( +8 / -2 )

Green is Ttump's least favorite color, so a change of name would be unavoidable. Trumpland sounds too obvious and crass, but there again nothing is too crass or obvious for a narcissist of his ilk with a fixation on real-estate. Ivankia? This wouldn't do either as it sounds too incestuous or nepotistic...Luckily for the world, the Danes have poured cold water over this tacky topic and dismissed the whole hair-brained notion out of hand.

3 ( +5 / -2 )

Well, China has claimed the dark side of the moon, and maybe Trump is now starting to give up on making North Korea his own exclusive market, so possibly not so far-fetched. Name your price, Denmark.

-2 ( +1 / -3 )

I think he wants to buy it so he can watch global warming slowly melt it, all the while denying any climate change..."Its a hoax, it's a hoax"....

Of course, now that Epstein's island has been closed, maybe he's looking for a replacement...

3 ( +6 / -3 )

I hear Denmark wants to trade Greenland for Canada.

-15 ( +0 / -15 )

Well, its a great location for the first joint Trump/Putin Snow Palace Casino and Ski Resort in Nuuk...

I'm sure it will succeed, just like the Atlantic City Taj Mahal and Casino...

That's the spirit! Keep beatin' that dead horse, lincoln! haha

-12 ( +0 / -12 )

No end to the attempts to attack Trump. Of what use would Greenland be to the USA. It would just another bunch at the already overcrowded Welfare Table.

-16 ( +0 / -16 )

Trump probably thinks that Greenland has much green, so that he can play golf whenever he feels like it.

Maybe it will be good that he buys his own island and ship himself off and stay there forever. It will do the world a whole lot of good. I hope he doesn't think he can waste anymore of American taxpayers' hard earned money.

9 ( +9 / -0 )

I'm sure this is some kind of joke.

Greenland, a self-ruling part of Denmark

Well, at least I learned something.

As in Trump Tower Moscow?

Such as who was actually going to pay for the project. Trump, now more of a licensor than builder, certainly wasn't planning on putting in much of his own money. And according to Sater, who brokered the proposal that extended furthest into the campaign, nor was Trump's official partner, Andrey Rozov. Instead, Sater says, he was cooking up a plan to raise huge sums from additional investors, including two of Vladimir Putin's closest cronies, Boris and Arkady Rotenberg. "We would have gone to them and asked them for four or five hundred million dollars cash," Sater says

Seems bizarre. But it’s obviously a four-dimensional chess riposte to North Korea’s latest missile launches.

The handiwork of a stable genius.

5 ( +5 / -0 )

This is insane. But a word of caution to the people of Greenland and Denmark: if you are interested, be sure to get the money up front.

Perhaps what is going on here is that Trump has seen Greenland on a Mercator map projection and thinks that the island is roughly the size of the African continent. So he may be reasoning that he will more than double the size of the United States by simply acquiring a vastly underpopulated island, to which he could then send undocumented aliens and Democrats.

When someone finally informs him about the nature of Mercator projections, he will declare them "fake news" and decry this attempt to deliberately deceive and bamboozle him and other Republicans by that shiftless Democrat Gerardus Mercator.

7 ( +7 / -0 )

If people want to spend time trump bashing, that's fine but the idea of America having a strategic interest in Greenland isn't that crazy. The article clearly states why. If a war were to break out between the US and Russia, they aren't going to be firing missiles over Europe and across the Atlantic to get to America. Also it isn't the first time the US has bought territory for strategic purposes.

The thing I find interesting is a country that applauded the idea of forcing other foreign nationals out of their mother countries and into the countries who were victorious in the first or second world war or supported the idea that Austria cannot be united with Germany, even democratically, is crying out at how terrible it is to do such a thing to a person when someone brings up the possibility for themselves.

Talk about projection, you seem to be doing it a lot. Lol

Ok and then?

-11 ( +0 / -11 )

Historically not so far out an idea. Louisiana purchase and Alaska spring immediately to mind but the current sociopath/political climate wouldn’t accept the concept of selling sovereign territories let alone democratic populations. US strategic considerations and the economic resources that will become accessible as global warming progresses make it a cynical but rational proposition. Not that anyone is going to agree to it.

-2 ( +0 / -2 )

Ruddy computer, it should be socio/political.

Trump plans to buy Greenland - says "Mexico will pay for it, mark my words, mark my words"....

9 ( +9 / -0 )

Maybe he is investing in snow and ice, before everyone runs out of it.

2 ( +2 / -0 )

Maybe "The Green" bit confused Trump... a whole Golf-course Island ? "Well.. why not buy it !"

Or... maybe, he knows something we don't from Classified material...

were that the case... I'd really love Trump to spill the beans over the Roswell myth, etc.. (even the Kennedy Assassination) and put an end to the long running conspiracy theories... that would, at least stand out as a long lasting achievement within his Presidency above all else.

-1 ( +0 / -1 )

When I saw the article, I thought it had come from The Onion. This is too insame even for Ttump,

But it is not too insane for the "orange man bad" fake media and their consusmers who are deluded enough to take any joke seriously.

Seriously, the Trump Derangment Syndrome is getting bizarre.

-7 ( +1 / -8 )

Delusional ... period!

5 ( +5 / -0 )

Was any price mentioned?

As a great believer in a people's right to choose, I think the 50,000 citizens of Greenland should get to decide. If they all want a million dollars, that would only be 50 billion, a drop in the ocean some would say and about twice NASA'a annual budget and less than tenth of the USA's military budget. I'd be tempted. (sorry, Friday, let me know if my sums are wrong).

-5 ( +0 / -5 )

1946 US had option to purchase Greenland for 100 mil. Nowadays who knows if the offer still stands.

1 ( +1 / -0 )

No end to the attempts to attack Trump

well you know when a mosquito continually buzzes around annoying anybody within earshot it only natural for people to want to swat it away. I suppose its also in response to the blind faith many have in Trump regardless of how illogical and wacky he becomes

7 ( +7 / -0 )

"If he is truly contemplating this, then this is final proof, that he has gone mad,"

Love the quote but "has gone"? Been that way since day one.

4 ( +4 / -0 )

Greenland is mostly an untouched wilderness with minerals and possibly oil and gas under that ice sheet. Of course Trump wants to buy it. The fact that he thinks you can, in the 21st century, buy and sell people and a country shows his colonial mindset.

3 ( +3 / -0 )

Sound wacky as hell....but if China is going to bid on it....we should too.

-4 ( +0 / -4 )

If you never ask, you never know.

I don't care for Trump, but it isn't the first time a U.S. President has tried to purchase Greenland. This president happened to be a strange one who's hard to take seriously, but you can't blame him for trying. Luckily for Greenland, the U.S. is its neighbor, not China.

Being part of Denmark which has a population of 5.77 million and at 1 million dollars per person you can add another 5.77 Trillion to your estimate for the purchase price of Greenland. Total $5,830,000,000,000

Just take that off the FED and pay cash. Nobody will miss it. NOT!

Trump: "We're going to buy Greenland!"

He didn't say that, cracaphat.

By the way, our northernmost base is in Greenland, and it's not a joint sharing operation with the Russians.

-4 ( +0 / -4 )

If the deal goes through they should call it "Green New Deal."

@Peter14

Being part of Denmark

But how much of a part? Over the years it has gained degrees of self-control. Denmark now only handles foreign affairs (probably significant here) and defense. Denmark also spends a lot of money on Greenland, so selling it off might be seen as removing a financial burden.

There are also 50,000 people living there with Viking history who don't want to belong to America.

If they don't want to belong to America, fine. But shouldn't that be for them to decide?

And a Danish MP countered with offering to buy California (sarcastically).

Greenland is an integral part of Denmark, just ask any Dane or Greenlander. Selling off a gem worth a fortune is hardly to be seen as removing a financial burden.

If they want to be a part of any other nation, given they are not an independent country, they must get Denmark's approval also. Hawaii or Puerto Rico couldn't just vote to become part of Denmark and that would be that. It does not work that way.

Greenlanders want to be Americans as much as birds want to be worms.
