Republicans want Hunter Biden, whistleblower to testify in open hearings

Republicans on Saturday asked that former Vice President Joe Biden's son and the whistleblower whose complaint triggered the impeachment inquiry into U.S. President Donald Trump be called to testify in public hearings that begin this week.

Democrats who control the U.S. House of Representatives, however, likely will reject appearances by Hunter Biden and the unidentified whistleblower in the hearings due to open on Wednesday.

Devin Nunes, the top Republican on the House Intelligence Committee, included the pair in a list of proposed witnesses that he sent in a letter to the panel's Democratic chairman, Adam Schiff, published on multiple news websites.

In the letter, Nunes said the Democrats were pursuing a"sham impeachment process" that has mistreated Trump. Nunes also accused Schiff of fabricating evidence in order to cast "in a sinister light" the telephone call at the inquiry's heart.

Trump used the July 25 call - a rough transcript of which was released by the White House - to press Ukrainian President Volodymr Zelenskiy to investigate the Bidens.

Joe Biden is a leading candidate for the Democratic nomination to oppose Trump's bid for re-election next year. While he served as vice president, his son was on the board of Burisma, a Ukrainian energy firm.

The whistleblower complaint alleged that Trump used the call to seek foreign help for personal political gain, a charge broadly substantiated by the testimonies of current and former U.S. officials in three weeks of closed hearings.

Trump and his Republican allies deny there was any wrongdoing.

Should the House impeach Trump, the Republican-controlled Senate would conduct a trial that could see him removed from office.

Nunes said he also wants testimony from Devon Archer, a businessman who served on the Burisma board with Hunter Biden, as the pair could "assist the American public in understanding the nature and extent of Ukraine's pervasive corruption."

Trump and his personal lawyer, Rudy Giuliani, have led accusations - without giving any evidence - that Joe Biden sought the dismissal of a Ukrainian prosecutor to block a corruption probe of Burisma.

In asking for the whistleblower, Nunes said that Trump"should be afforded an opportunity to confront his accusers."

In a statement issued after receiving Nunes' letter, Schiff said the Republicans' proposed witness list was being evaluated. But, he indicated he likely will reject the requests for Hunter Biden, Archer and several other proposed witnesses.

The inquiry, he said, will not serve "as a vehicle to undertake the same sham investigations into the Bidens or 2016 that the president pressed Ukraine to conduct for his personal political benefit or to facilitate the president's effort to threaten, intimidate and retaliate against the whistleblower."

The whistleblower alleged that Trump sought investigations into the Bidens in return for granting Zelenskiy an Oval Office visit and allowing the delivery of nearly $400 million in security aid needed by Ukraine to defend against Russia-backed separatists.

Before departing on Saturday on a flight to Tuscaloosa, Alabama, Trump said he probably would release on Tuesday the transcript of an April 21 call he made to congratulate Zelenskiy on his presidential election victory.

Nunes. Hahahahaha hahahaha hahahaha He's a straight up nutball loser.

No, there will be no circus sideshows included in the trial of Donald Trump. Save it for your nutjob supporters.

Dems should say we'll see your Hunter and raise you a Donald.

5 ( +9 / -4 )

Rudy Giuliani was running his own Ukraine agenda and should be called to give evidence of his involvement in the UkraineGate.

Republicans on Saturday asked that former Vice President Joe Biden's son and the whistleblower whose complaint triggered the impeachment inquiry into U.S. President Donald Trump be called to testify in public hearings that begin this week.

I don't suppose they have many other options when the President's conduct is pretty much indefensible.

10 ( +12 / -2 )

Even if Hunter Biden is as corrupt as Donny and the Trump klan, he is absolutely irrelevant to Donny asking a foreign government for campaign assistance. (No, Donny doesn't need to have used the words, "campaign assistance" when seeking y; he just needs to have asked for something from a foreign government then he should know or reasonably have known would benefit his campaign.)

Even of the whistleblower is the most partisan hack, it doesn't matter because the substance of his report has been corroborated by soooo many of Donny's own people. (Claiming any alleged whistleblower bias makes the entire impeachment inquiry invalid is like claiming bias of a confidential informant invalidates his information that has been corroborated and resulted in arrests. It simply is not how reality works.)

7 ( +9 / -2 )

If the whistleblowr is the CIA operative, he has security clearances that allow him access to confidential information, which defeats the Trumpophile argument that someone leaked classidied information to the whistleblower.

The initial whistleblower could be the most biased individual in the history of bias or individuals and it wouldn't matter because his information has been corroborated by so many of Donny's own people.

It's quite telling that Trumpophiles are more concerned with who the whistleblower is than with what Donny did. It's the equivalent of shouting, "LOOK

A SQUIRREL!"

Chip Star: Even of the whistleblower is the most partisan hack, it doesn't matter

I know that. You know that. Trump fans know that.

But they have to say SOMETHING.

Hey Repubs, the Hunter Biden smear story is dead, done, finished. You handled it so badly that everyone except White House shadow adviser Sean Hannity knows it was bogus.

What a bunch of sick sycophants...there must be a hidden grave yard somewhere in DC where they buried all the Repub House and Senate spines..

5 ( +6 / -1 )

I know that. You know that. Trump fans know that.

But they have to say SOMETHING.

Your faith in Trumpophiles is unreasonable, in my opinion.

And what does Hunter have to do with Donald withholding weapons assistance to an ally?

If Biden's son is to testify, then Trump's kids should also be called to answer similar questions.

6 ( +6 / -0 )

And what does Hunter have to do with Donald withholding weapons assistance to an ally?

Nothing, please ask shifty Schiff who’s trying to impeach the President on that.

If Biden's son is to testify, then Trump's kids should also be called to answer similar questions.

Newsflash: DTJ did. numerous times, so if he can under Mueller, Hunter can as well.

-7 ( +1 / -8 )

Nothing, please ask shifty Schiff who’s trying to impeach the President on that.

No, that is not what the president is getting impeached for.

Do you actually even know what he's getting impeached for? I wonder if they have told you guys that in the bubble or not.

8 ( +8 / -0 )

Tia is nothing other than an attempt to disrupt and confuse the impeachment process by throwing doubt on two individuals who are now entirely irrelevant to the investigation.

If I were a republican trying to protect the President, it is exactly what I would do. And no doubt if the circumstances were the other way round, Democrats would do the same to protect a Democrat president.

But it is clear that Trump is in real trouble over this. In most Western democracies he would have had to resign by now, but Donald is a normal leader and the USA is no longer a normal democracy.

8 ( +8 / -0 )

But it is clear that Trump is in real trouble over this.

Not by the Republicans. Not at all.

In most Western democracies he would have had to resign by now,

If we had a parliamentary system, that would be true, but we rejected that system

but Donald is a normal leader and the USA is no longer a normal democracy.

that’s why a lot of people are leaving states like California and New York.

I look forward to Trump being hoisted by his own petard.

Not really, but CNN does.

I want to see Hunter Biden, Bolton, Giuliani and Schiff testify under oath.

Anyone NOT want to see this?

Joe Biden is a leading candidate for the Democratic nomination to oppose Trump

He's not going to be the nominee, it will be Buttigieg, Bloomberg or Michelle.

I look forward to Trump being hoisted by his own petard.

You're going to be disappointed.

Trump landslide 2020

Lots of American are just ignorant , do not realize Trump has been implicated in many crimes and there numerous investigation ,still going on, some are still clouded in their ignorance, by still supporting Trump

5 ( +6 / -1 )

Ahh, well..for what then? The Democrats change and move the goalposts daily and change what they want to impeach him on, what’s the scope, what’s the exact outline? I mean, as funny as all this is and it won’t amount to a bag of beans, what is their cause for impeachment, will they ever make that clear?

No, the goalposts don't keep moving. The investigation has always been about Donny soliciting a foreign government for campaign assistance using the power of the office if the president.

If Donny has and/or continues to obstruct, there may be an additional article. That's reallybup to Donny though.

4 ( +5 / -1 )

Dems are going to be seriously disappointed - again- when this latest coup attempt is over.

-9 ( +0 / -9 )

Dems are going to be seriously disappointed - again- when this latest coup attempt is over.

Forvrhis to be "the latest coup attempt," it would have to be a coup attempt and it would have to follow a previous coup attempt. It fails both requirements, but don't let that get in your way.

2 ( +3 / -1 )

Forvrhis to be "the latest coup attempt," it would have to be a coup attempt and it would have to follow a previous coup attempt.

When the opposition party has themselves been openly saying they will attempt a coup ( see “whistleblower”) attorney- yes, it’s obvious.

Although all coup attempts against Trump will fail the political pendulum will swing to the far Left next year and an extremist Dem will become president. Which of course will set up the Republicans to go hard to impeach in retaliation. All-in-all more political reality television for the enjoyment of the American people.

-5 ( +1 / -6 )

Serrano:. I want to see Hunter Biden, Bolton, Giuliani and Schiff testify under oath.

We will give you Bolton and Guiliani.

I want to see Jim Jordan testify how he could be the assistant of the Ohio State wrestling team and not know about all the molestation.

How about that? You love it.

6 ( +8 / -2 )

When the opposition party has themselves been openly saying they will attempt a coup ( see “whistleblower”) attorney- yes, it’s obvious.

Yes, because one person that is not a Democratic Party official clearly sets the Democratic Party agenda. Overgeneralize much, or just when you're posting anonymously in the internet?

Agreed somewhat with your post beyond the blatant, hyperbolic falsehood thag a coup has been, is being, or will be attempted by the Democratic Party. It's called oversight.

Newsflash: DTJ did. numerous times, so if he can under Mueller, Hunter can as well.

Newsflash: DJT Jr had to testify because he met with Russians at Trump Tower to get dirt on Hillary - then lied about it saying it was about adoptions...

Meeting with foreigners to interfere in our election - must be a Trump family thing....

I want to see Hunter Biden, Bolton, Giuliani and Schiff testify under oath.

The only ones who want to see this are card-carrying members of the alt-right conspiracy theory club...in other words, far-right nuts...oh, and Russians...

Trump landslide 2020

Keep beating that dead horse Serrano...

3 ( +4 / -1 )

Yes, because one person that is not a Democratic Party official clearly sets the Democratic Party agenda.

One? One of many shell shocked Dems in the lead up to, and the immediate period after, Trump’s inauguration. Hillary started the fake ‘Trump is a Russian mole’ BS via her paid Russian dossier collusion with foreign intelligence agents.

It's called oversight.

If that’s what you call it. I am looking forward to oversight of the next Dem president. Hope the Trump administration is planting “whistleblowers” throughout the executive branch during his last year as president. If America is going to be a Banana Republic, conservatives should get in on the fun as well.

-7 ( +0 / -7 )

Hunter Biden can testify away. He really has no role in Trump's sordid affair. The whistleblower has offered to testify in writing to protect his anonimity. After all, Trump testified in writing to Mueller (and lied when he claimed to have written the answers himself when it was clear his lawyers did).

As for the others (Bolton, Giuliani, Mulvaney, etc) - the Dems have apparently decided court cases to force their testimony would take too long so have decided to render this as obstruction of justice. The House has all the info it needs, anyway. So Trump is damned if he does, damned if he doesn't.

1 ( +2 / -1 )

No, the goalposts don't keep moving.

Yes, they have been, so what do the Democrats want to impeach this President with? Make it clear.

The investigation has always been about Donny soliciting a foreign government for campaign assistance using the power of the office if the president.

Ok, so really nothing that amounts to a real impeachment or removal from office.

If Donny has and/or continues to obstruct, there may be an additional article. That's reallybup to Donny though.

I see..so more search of an accumulation of BS.

-4 ( +1 / -5 )

The goal posts have not moved. The Mueller investigation was started by the AG. The impeachment inquiry by the house of congress.

The was sufficient evidence requiring the need for both. The Mueller investigation netted in about 36 people for criminal actions.

It was Trump who turned his own light on.

3 ( +4 / -1 )

Hunter Biden can testify away. He really has no role in Trump's sordid affair.

Amazing how liberals can determine that as if they’re all legal experts, but can unequivocally state Trump is guilty? ROFL!

The Republicans and Durham will determine that and no one else.

The whistleblower has offered to testify in writing to protect his anonimity.

Odd, when it comes to people like Snowden, liberals want the world to know who it is, when former WH staff Ciaramilla, a political former WH staff Obama holder and loyal Democrat comes out in a coup to try and take down the President, now we have to keep his identity a secret. What a joke these people are.

After all, Trump testified in writing to Mueller (and lied when he claimed to have written the answers himself when it was clear his lawyers did).

The entire witch hunt Russian hoax was a complete lie and we also have to remember Ciaramella is not the sitting President of the US, the circumstances were completely different, you want to compare the rights and privileges of a political hack to the President of the US? No wonder liberals keep losing.

As for the others (Bolton, Giuliani, Mulvaney, etc) - the Dems have apparently decided court cases to force their testimony would take too long so have decided to render this as obstruction of justice.

Because Bolton would never allow himself to be part of a liberals conspiracy overthrow of a sitting President and good on him for being the smart man he is. Let the Democrats ring their own necks especially in the Key swing states, please guys, keep it up. Lol

-4 ( +1 / -5 )

@bas4FThe entire witch hunt Russian hoax was a complete lie

A lie? Perhaps for those who still think anything Trump says is truthful after he's told thousands of lies, those who believe the Kremlin and their global media outlets like RT and Sputnik, those who don't trust the findings of intelligence agencies in 'western' democracies, those who rely on media like Breitbart, infowars, and people like Hannity, Ingraham, and those pushing global alt right agendas.

Being that Joke Biden and his son are at the center of this impeachment inquiry crap, Joke and his son should be front and center and grilled hard for all to see. Joke never did nothing for the US during his time as VP, and will continue with the same legacy if he was elected, which will of course never happen. Dems seem like they have your best interest at heart but are nothing more than wolves with smiles. What Trump did does not even come close to an impeachable offense, anyway they would have to find millions of foreign money stashed in his account for me to even consider impeachment. They can bring this "witness" or that Army officer, looking unsat in his uniform; sorry doesnt change anything.

The current AG has launched a criminal investigation into the origins of the Mueller investigation.

Being that Joke...

What's that? A conservative attempt at humour?

... Biden and his son are at the center of this impeachment inquiry crap, Joke and his son should be front and center and grilled hard for all to see.

If there was actually a solid case against them that would have already happened. Have you not ever wondered why Trump never got the investigation he wanted?

Being that Joke Biden and his son are at the center of this impeachment inquiry crap, Joke and his son should be front and center and grilled hard for all to see.

Center? Guess who's name has been mentioned over 500 times in all the transcripts - Giuliani. Who is Giuliani's client? Hint - he's orange...

Joke never did nothing for the US during his time as VP, and will continue with the same legacy if he was elected, which will of course never happen.

Like Barr, Durham?

They are not Trump supporters. They are serving the president. Different ball game.

Attorney General William Barr.  US Attorney John Durham.

Plenty of Trump supporters have declared Trump not guilty.

2 ( +3 / -1 )

He is not guilty. Has been convicted of nothing and sentenced to nothing. That’s called not guilty.

-5 ( +2 / -7 )

And oh yeah, Durham is coming.

Unlike last time, this time all the crimes stated in the IG report have a way to lead to prosecutions.

They are not Trump supporters.

You spoke to them? Huh....

They are serving the president. Different ball game.

Like Holder did Obama....I know...

Attorney General William Barr. US Attorney John Durham.

Plenty of Trump supporters have declared Trump not guilty.

Yup, Barr did. as well.

What's that? A conservative attempt at humour?

As if liberals are funny. Griffin miserably failed at that.

If there was actually a solid case against them that would have already happened. Have you not ever wondered why Trump never got the investigation he wanted?

Deep swamp, corrupt Democrats, the Washington liberal establishment, House Democrats, Obama holdovers at the State Department.....

Just getting warm now....

-4 ( +2 / -6 )

Let Schiff conduct his Soviet-style show trial. When the GOP-led Senate takes over the proceedings, they will be able to take their sweet time during their phase; dragging their feet past the democrat Super Tuesday in March before calling for a vote (or, dismiss all charges outright).

That move will sideline the six democrat senators now running for that party's nomination as they will be required to be in the Senate chamber six days a week starting a 10 a.m. each day; thus, preventing them to intermingle with voters out on the campaign trail. What's more, as Senate jurors, they will also be prevented from giving their version of the truth about the trial that they are a part of.

Memo to all the radical liberals: Be careful of what you wish for.

-3 ( +2 / -5 )

Yup, Barr did. as well.

But not for the impeachment even though Trump was pressing him to make a public statement. The UkraineGate isn't closed yet.
