Good to see some countries prioritising their population health, and protecting the health care system against this unknown and highly contagious virus.

Too bad. I really thought Australia had got on top of the virus. One lapse can do it - just like that hotel quarantine in Melbourne in August and now an airline crew somehow got through quarantine.

You can't let your guard down for even one day.

I feel sorry for the people in Sydney's northern suburbs who live by the beach, especially if temperatures are in the 30s. Nobody wants to stay indoors in that sort of weather for three days. I bet some people will sneak out for an early morning or late afternoon swim.

Umm ok?

Sydney is obviously not Melbourne but I think we can forget about The Australian Open tennis. Can not stop travel between those 2 cities without loopholes.

This just shows that even 1 rogue case can potentially spiral into another wave. Good thing Australia is acting quickly and taking it very seriously.

"It’s wildly irresponsible to look at the virus spread as some performance competition between nations. There are so many factors at play and it should be fairly obvious to everyone that NZ is doing well largely because it’s isolated."

No, NZ is doing well because there is a liberal champion in charge over there whereas Australia is struggling because of their PMs conservative leanings. All countries run by conservatives have failed to combat the virus whereas countries run by liberals are doing exceptionally well. That is what I have learned from some of the posters on this forum.

How is Australia struggling?! They have exceptionally low numbers for a country of 25 million people. And how does this struggle differ for countries with more liberal leadership?

This is exactly true. Liberal countries have no deaths or even infections. I think the reason is that because Conservatives don’t believe in science and therefore only they can contract the virus. Liberals are resistant and Socialists/ Progressives have full immunity. This is obviously simple political Darwinism.

I'm glad the Aussies and Kiwis are getting serious about this. At least they have responsible governments who don't stir up strife.
