There's a surprise...not.

A compassionate move.

Reminds me of the famous scene in Schindler's list.

The antidote to tyranny is mercy.

-15 ( +8 / -23 )

The man was convicted of racial profiling... in essence, he and his police force stopped and questioned those people that appeared to be from Mexico without probable cause. He did it for years and was found guilty. Arapaio took the law into his own hands.... that is a problem. The Bill of Rights needs to be properly enforced but Trump could care less. This was a win for White Supremacists and other Hate Groups.

20 ( +26 / -6 )

Pardoning a person convicted of violating civil rights and being racist. No one is surprised by this disgusting action by Trump, it's just one of many.

16 ( +22 / -6 )

Another goose-step back for America under Trump.

There's a mighty storm on the way.

11 ( +18 / -7 )

A fellow birther. Trump has been a fan of this man for years for his devotion to the cause.

13 ( +18 / -5 )

Reminds me of the famous scene in Schindler's list.

That's a pretty pathetic analogy, comparing the conviction of a racist who broke the law with the extermination of Jews.

17 ( +22 / -5 )

What a slap in the face to the Latino community.

12 ( +18 / -6 )

What a slap in the face to the Latino community.

What a slap in the face to the rule of law. What won't Trump do to pander to his base?

14 ( +19 / -5 )

It just goes to show, you can kick out bigots like Bannon and Gorka, but the White House will remain a White Power House so long as the bigot-in-chief remains in power.

10 ( +17 / -7 )

Yep Trump showing true colors once again...

8 ( +14 / -6 )

Trump really believes he'll get away with whatever he does because he knows Republicans have no spines, no ba**s, no integrity. They don't want to get their hands dirty, don't want to draft articles of impeachment based on clear obstructions of justice. He's testing the waters for Michael Flynn, for Paul Manafort, for Jared, for himself. He doesn't give a rat's a$s about Arpaio. It's all about Mueller's looming subpoenas.

What a disgusting, nasty, lawless, out-of-control bandit.

9 ( +15 / -6 )

He committed a crime and now the President of the United States has pardoned him. Same as it works for any other President and maybe the least offense that anyone has ever been pardoned for.

Its not like Trump invented the pardon and he has only used it once. and no, it's nothing related to Russia.

-14 ( +5 / -19 )

@Blacklabel

You defend Trump from people who call him stupid.

This must be the action of an intelligent man, and like all politicians ( he is now a politician ), he's appealing to a particular group.

Who is he appealing to?

10 ( +13 / -3 )

Sickening, sickening, sickening. The President of the United States is defending and praising R=A=C=I=S=M.

9 ( +13 / -4 )

so wistleblowers can get pardoned to?

-4 ( +1 / -5 )

No surprise here.

4 ( +6 / -2 )

This is how Trump is making America great again. By condoning racial profiling. This clearly shows what kind of man he is: a racist occupying the highest office of the United States. Trump justice has been done.

6 ( +9 / -3 )

Hilarious to see all the SJW's falling for the MSM racism meme. This guy should not be pardoned for his lack of investigating sex crimes against children. But I guess "racism", which occurs at every corner of the globe, is guaranteed click bait.

-9 ( +5 / -14 )

He is probably appealing to law enforcement officers who are being asked to enforce our laws against illegal immigration and drugs from the border areas.

who was the other guy appealing to when he pardoned and/or commuted the sentences of drug dealers and traffickers? He surely wasn't respecting the police who risked their lives to catch them and the judges and juries who found them guilty.

Who was he appealing to when he pardoned a person who decide to became transgender after leaking national secrets?

sometimes you aren't appealing to anyone when you do things, you are just showing compassion.

-6 ( +6 / -12 )

I'm sorry but to me racial profiling is a made up social justifice type crime. It's an excuse for people who get caught doing crimes and their lawyers to complain why they were stopped instead of someone else.

If you didn't do anything wrong, you go on your way. If his area is 80% one race then more people of that race will be stopped and more people of that race will be caught.

What should they do, stop every person of all other races so that the primary race of 80% is stopped only 50%? How is that fair? It's why they wasting time body searching 5 yr olds and old ladies at the airport instead of others. they are afraid of being accused of profiling people who are more likely to actually do crimes.

-5 ( +6 / -11 )

I'm sorry but to me racial profiling is a made up social justifice type crime

Considering Trump pardoned him, that's demonstrably false ;)

If you didn't do anything wrong, you go on your way.

We have this thing called a constitution. And this thing says you can't do that :D

How is that fair?

How is it fair to single out brown skinned people?

8 ( +9 / -1 )

was the guy convicted of the crime of "racial profiling"? No he wasn't.

He was following federal law that Obama decided he didn't want enforced. So when his state passes a law different from federal law and told him to stop and he didn't he was charged with "contempt" for still following federal laws.

Interesting that for this law it was fine for states to decide to do something else yet for marijuana federal law overruled state law.

-6 ( +4 / -10 )

FizzBitToday  04:58 pm JST

Hilarious to see all the SJW's falling for the MSM racism meme. This guy should not be pardoned for his lack of investigating sex crimes against children

Arpaio is scum for any number of reasons, but he wasn't found guilty of failing to investigate sex crimes against children, he was found guilty of contempt for his racist approach to law enforcement. Hence, that's the relevant complaint.

But do go on. It wouldn't be a JT thread without you insulting

6 ( +11 / -5 )

was the guy convicted of the crime of "racial profiling

Then stop calling it a made up crime. He broke the law, he refused to follow a court order. Now, why shouldn't he pay for his crime?

He was following federal law that Obama decided he didn't want enforced.

Not correct and makes absolutely no sense. If he followed federal law, he wouldn't have been held in contempt of court.

5 ( +8 / -3 )

If his area is 80% one race then more people of that race will be stopped and more people of that race will be caught.

People were being detained for suspicion of being illegal. Do you think many white guys without IDs were detained? How about black guys?

The fact is when Latinos interacted with officers they were asked to show proof of citizenship or could face detention. It wasn't 80-20 or 50-50, it was 100% Latino. If you look a certain way, hold them until they could prove citizenship.

Legitimate American Latino citizens and even tourists were being hauled into police stations. I can't imagine what they must be feeling right now. Not only were they detained for the crime of looking Latino, they guy who did it to them just got a free pass.

Like I said, just a slap in the face to the Latino community. People here in Arizona on both sides are really struggling to understand why this is happening.

8 ( +10 / -2 )

What should they do, stop every person of all other races so that the primary race of 80% is stopped only 50%?

How about doing your job effectively within the law? That's what real law enforcement is about, not this dumb Hollywood Dirty Harry machismo crap.

There has long been a serious problem with attitudes about law enforcement in America, where feel-good solutions to simplistic notions of evil are central to the narrative. Joe Arpaio fits right into that. The people who support him (like Trump) do not really believe in the rule of law, they believe in what satisfies their blood lust against people who are unimaginably different from themselves, in this case Hispanics.

4 ( +6 / -2 )

So when you are looking for people who have broken the law by crossing the border illegally into the US from Mexico......you should be checking white guys and black guys?

Illegal immigration is more of a crime than racial profiling will ever be. The Supreme Court had upheld racial profiling as recently as 20 years ago so this is a relatively new thing to say you can't profile to catch criminals.

-4 ( +4 / -8 )

So when you are looking for people who have broken the law by crossing the border illegally into the US from Mexico

They shouldn't even be doing that. That is the definition of profiling, hello. And its illegal.

Illegal immigration is more of a crime than racial profiling will ever be

Is it? Why is that? be specific. Is it because they commit crimes at lower rates than immigrants? Or is it because you love Trump and he walks on water?

The Supreme Court had upheld racial profiling as recently as 20 years ago

Oh no they haven't. Source please

so this is a relatively new thing to say you can't profile to catch criminals.

No its not. The Arizona law Arpaio the racist bigot tried to enforce was relatively new, not the law. Keep going;)

5 ( +6 / -1 )

Oh yes they have:

http://m.huffpost.com/us/entry/9061838

By ruling that the Fourth Amendment offered no protection against a racially motivated traffic stop, the Court gave law enforcement officials its approval to racially profile motorists and “closed the courthouse doors to claims of racial bias,” Alexander wrote.

so police are not allowed to look for people who are illegally in this country and detain them when they find them? That is a crime despite what liberals want is to believe.

-6 ( +3 / -9 )

New York City was doing racial profiling as recently as 2013 as well. This whole thing is simply an issue of whether being an illegal immigrant is a crime or not.

If being illegal isn't a "crime" then people can claim afterwards they were stopped for no reason. If being illegal is a crime the police are protected as they are stopping a criminal.

Recently liberal judges get around the issue by saying its not a criminal offense to be illegal but a civil offense subject to penalty of deportation.

-5 ( +3 / -8 )

they believe in what satisfies their blood lust against people who are unimaginably different from themselves, in this case Hispanics.

Blood lust? Hispanics are unimaginably different? You might want to turn off MSNBC, CNN, and stop reading Antifa propaganda for a while. You are falling off the far Left side of your couch.

Arpaio make a serious effort to solve a problem that was causing a huge amount of human misery and is a continuing affront to the rule of law. So of course, the political Left went to war against him.

-11 ( +1 / -12 )

Oh yes they have:

You do realize the entire article was critical of those court decisions, yes or no? You do realize the opening paragraph says:

Today, although no law explicitly allows for racial profiling by law enforcement, it still happens at an institutional level.

Don't you?

Go ahead and read through all the constitutional violations these interpretations allow and tell me, what good do these laws do? Do you really feel safer after our constitution is ripped to shreds?

7 ( +8 / -1 )

So when you are looking for people who have broken the law by crossing the border illegally into the US from Mexico......you should be checking white guys and black guys?

Can you think of any situations where you'd be OK with police detaining white guys and releasing black and Latinos because of the color of their skin?

Mass school shootings are done almost exclusively by white guys. So how about this: In response to that, white males in high school will have to go through metal detectors when they enter campus. Their lockers are subject to random searches. Their homes and rooms and computers will be searched regularly to make sure nothing is being planned.

If you're black, Latino, or Asian, or female, you don't have to go through this, since there are rarely any situations involving them and school shootings.

If you protest, remember this: School shootings are a big problem in this country.

Illegal immigration is more of a crime than racial profiling will ever be.

This is the larger, more dangerous part of the picture. It's the point of view that as long as they are fighting a problem (this case: illegal immigration), then we should look the other way when the police break laws.

9 ( +9 / -0 )

They shouldn't even be doing that. That is the definition of profiling, hello. And its illegal.

The police profile by race, sex, age, height, weight, etc all the time. It would be nearly impossible for them to be effective at all without profiling. I suppose that is the reason for the politization of law enforcement. The Left just doesn't want the police to be effective when it comes to their assumed future voters.

If police know there is a widespread presence of criminals that share common characteristics in a community they should use profiling to apprehend them. That's just common sense. At least it used to be before identity politics took over the Democrat party. If it were well known that of those committing fraud in a particular community, 10% were identified as old White Christian heterosexual males I would hope that the cops would keep an eye out for them when enforcing laws against fraud.

It is amazing how nothing makes a Left winger in America more self satisfied than virtue signalling and calling someone else a racist.

-8 ( +1 / -9 )

That's just common sense.

Ah, and so why was Joe 'Iburnacross' Arpaio convicted? For using common sense?

I guess your 'common sense' makes nearly a million US citizens in Arizona fair game for criminal profiling?

7 ( +8 / -1 )

Regardless of his racist profiling bottom line is

He was convicted of "contempt of court" by due process.

Not good for someone claiming to be a sworn officer of the law!

Trump demonstrated same contempt many times before. This pardon is no more than confirmation.

5 ( +8 / -3 )

Ah, and so why was Joe 'Iburnacross' Arpaio convicted? For using common sense?

He was convicted by a Left wing judge who made a mistake - eithter on purpose or through political bias. That's what the pardon power is for. The Left had no problem defending Clinton's pardon for his wealthy campaign donor or Obama's thousands of drug offenders- some of whom are back in jail because they have already re-offended.

Is there proof that Arpaio burned a cross on someone's yard? Hadn't heard that one.

He was convicted of "contempt of court" by due process.

Eric Holder was found in contempt of Congress. Bill Clinton lied under oath. The Obama administration used the IRS to hobble his political opponents. Hillary Clinton mishandled classified information. Bet you are not too worked up about these things? See, this is the politicized world we live in. Right and wrong is no longer a matter of the laws a society chooses to live under. It is whatever increases the power of ones political tribe. I don't know why people will not at least acknowledge that reality.

-8 ( +2 / -10 )

All I said was the Supreme Court said it was legal 20 years ago and I proved it. Don't care if the article was written from the whiny liberal point of view that the Supreme Court was wrong when they said that.

My point is that this racial profiling isn't as clear as you all want it to be. At least some people don't care about the technicalities of how an illegal alien is found, they just want them gone.

Seems also no one wants to talk about all the people Obama pardoned and commuted. Those people did high level actual crimes instead of just a misdemeanor contempt charge. the sheriff was voted out of office and is 85. It's the compassionate thing to do to let him go, it was doubtful he was ever really going to jail anyway.

-6 ( +1 / -7 )

Sorry school shootings are not a big problem. There are 11 million illegals in our country, not 11 million school shootings.

But oncev it becomes a problem, yes profile the most common group to do those- which is white males based on history. When would I be ok with a white guy being held when others let go? When the white guy did something illegal while the others didn't is a good start.

its just the simple fact that liberals have decided that even though the law says people here illegally are committing a crime, your feelings tell you that's ok to look the other way on it. But it's still illegal.

-7 ( +1 / -8 )

Blacklabel: At least some people don't care about the technicalities of how an illegal alien is found, they just want them gone.

Perfect summary for the Right. If natural born Americans are caught up in the process? Oh, well. They're Latino....no big deal.

6 ( +7 / -1 )

I'm back and see this platform is a true Trump support outfit !! lol.. Well you think this Arpaio story is upsetting, next week he is cancelling the DACA program (Dreamers policy) which Obama put into place .... Now there are over 800,000 people in this program who will be told to leave and the administration has all their addresses, phone numbers and relative's data. I live in Los Angeles, so I will be in my secure residence daily before 11am.

It's going to get ugly out there nasty and dirty, a Free For All. Button up the hatches boys and girls its going down... You heard it here First

they believe in what satisfies their blood lust against people who are unimaginably different from themselves, in this case Hispanics.

Blood lust? Hispanics are unimaginably different? You might want to turn off MSNBC, CNN, and stop reading Antifa propaganda for a while. You are falling off the far Left side of your couch.

Unimaginably different from the perspective of a racist bigot. Wasn't it obvious that was implied, or were you just deliberately misinterpreting the comment for the purpose of a quick insult?

6 ( +6 / -0 )

Unimaginably different from the perspective of a racist bigot.

Yes we know - everyone that disagrees with the Leftist politics are bigots. There isn't even a feignt towards treating people by the content of their character instead of their skin color. White Liberals spend all their time carrying around 400 years of guilt and cannot look at others as the individual people they are. In the end, the law and the Constitution only matters when it suits their politics but is evil when it does not.

its just the simple fact that liberals have decided that even though the law says people here illegally are committing a crime, your feelings tell you that's ok to look the other way on it. But it's still illegal.

They don't even hide the fact that it's all part of their racialist politics. The same Dems that voted to fund a border wall a decade ago are now focused on racial wedge politics like at no time since their Jim Crow days. They believe that in order to rally their base they need to inflame racial divisions. Must be hard living life with such deep seated anger and self loathing.

-5 ( +0 / -5 )

Wolfpack,

Glad to see you are working on a PhD in Pop Psychology. Part of that process is self-examination, that

must be next semester. Then you will see that Trump endorsing the KKK and the Nazi party and now pardoning before sentencing another out and out racist are facts. Nothing to do with 400 years of

history, this is happening today.

Trump began his political journey by denying the US President was a citizen, because he was black. Another racism example by the President and supported by most of the republican party members, many even still today claim Obama is a non-American.

Racism is alive and well today in the Republican Party. Your incoherent dribble about things you do no really understand just provide cover for more racism in your party. You wan to really fix racism in the USA, fix your republican party. Right now the strongest support for Trump comes from the KKK.

5 ( +5 / -0 )

Trump really believes he'll get away with whatever he does because he knows Republicans have no spines, no ba**s, no integrity.

So you're saying the GOP should get on Trump for this pardon because he thinks the man was in the right for doing his job?

They don't want to get their hands dirty, don't want to draft articles of impeachment based on clear obstructions of justice.

For what reason?

He's testing the waters for Michael Flynn, for Paul Manafort, for Jared, for himself. He doesn't give a rat's a$s about Arpaio. It's all about Mueller's looming subpoenas.

Trump doesn't need this job, he had a very good life before he became president, hes doing it for the country, I know the left in their despair and derangement don't understand it, but that's what he is doing. But what was the sheriff supposed to do? Just allow illegals to waltz into the country and like other liberal states don't ask them if they are illegal just because you don't want to make them feel bad??? Sorry, life is tough and since we are dealing with illegals coming from Central and South America, the only way to find out is to profile them, it might be insensitive and politically incorrect, but that is the only way. Asking them or waiting for them to willingly come forward will never happen. And on this, I'm glad Trump pardoned, he may not have been perfect in everything he's done at his job, but the man did his job: you break the law, you do the time. You can't enter the country illegally. Try that in Mexico and watch what happens. I get so sick and tired of California pushing its feel good laws into saying, you be like us or else. Trump pardoned him, the man is 85 for Christ's sake and what is the left going to get out of putting an old man like that behind bars besides emotional satisfaction?

What a disgusting, nasty, lawless, out-of-control bandit.

I guess we will just have to disagree on that. He's got more spine and guts than a lot of other weak spined officers.

-3 ( +1 / -4 )

But what was the sheriff supposed to do? Just allow illegals to waltz into the country and like other liberal states don't ask them if they are illegal just because you don't want to make them feel bad???

You obviously don't understand the situation. Police officers were pulling over Latinos to check and see if they were illegal. It was strictly done by race. You literally had cops stopping Americans and demanding proof of citizenship.

It has no connection to, "letting illegals waltz into the state." It's a situation that is unacceptable under any circumstance, and telling me there's a problem with illegals won't get me on board with tactics that violate human rights.

You guys like to talk about how you are the defenders of the Constitution, maybe you should start walking the walk.

2 ( +3 / -1 )

Just allow illegals to waltz into the country and like other liberal states don't ask them if they are illegal just because you don't want to make them feel bad???

You're implying that everyone who looks Hispanic is an "illegal".

the man did his job: you break the law, you do the time.

Again, you're saying that anyone who's Hispanic is in the country illegally. Being Hispanic is not breaking the law. Conversely, Apaio did break the law. Contempt of court is contempt of court. Doesn't matter what you think of the law. The law's the law. Arpaio broke it. He should do the time.

Michelle Goldberg at Slate had a wonderful analysis of Trump's (and his enablers') motivations. If I may:

"Trump cannot deliver almost anything he promised during his campaign. He’s not going to get rid of Obamacare, much less replace it with something at once cheaper and more generous. He will not bring back American manufacturing, or make the country respected in the world, or extricate American troops from Afghanistan. He probably won’t be able to build a wall on the Mexican border, and has already conceded that Mexico won’t pay for it. But there is one promise he can deliver on, and it may be the central promise of his maggot-hearted campaign: revenge. If his supporters felt humiliated and dislocated and eclipsed by an urbane black president, Trump would make that president’s voters feel even worse. Outside Trump’s rally in Phoenix last week, a middle-age blond woman held a sign saying, 'Trump Won Go Ahead and Cry.'

One of the uniquely horrifying things about the presidency is that Trump was put there to torment us, and by us, I mean the majority of Americans who voted against him. His strongest supporters revel in his instability, in the terror he evokes and the suffering he causes."

3 ( +4 / -1 )

Perfect summary for the Right. If natural born Americans are caught up in the process? Oh, well. They're Latino....no big deal.

Said natural born Latino reaches into their wallet and proves to the policeman that they are legal. Same thing as foreigners do in Japan if police think you aren't supposed to be here, you prove you are.

-6 ( +1 / -7 )

@Blacklabel

Is it really that difficult to grasp the difference between "Latino" and "foreign"?

Race is not an indicator of nationality....

6 ( +7 / -1 )

blacklabel: Said natural born Latino reaches into their wallet and proves to the policeman that they are legal.

Actually, no, they don't, as you can't hold people due to their race in this country. If you're saying that it's OK to violate the civil rights of minorities, then come out and say it. The only point you seem to be making is that violating their rights is effective in catching illegals so you support it. That's when you should know you've gone too far.

A judge ordered him to stop doing this, and he did not. That's when he broke the law and took the law into his own hands. We don't operate that way in this country.

6 ( +7 / -1 )

no one is being "held" due to their race, they are held because they broke our immigration laws by entering our country illegally.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Blacklabel,

If you think the illegal Brits in the USA are being pulled over regularly you live in a bubble. Or do you see the factory owner who employs illegal immigrants getting arrested? No, because they are white primarily and racist republicans do not care about the employers of immigrants at all. This is all about racism and Trump supporting it by endorsing the KKK and pardoning the racist Arpaio.

Fact his Arpaio's parents were immigrants from Italy. He is of Latin decent just one generation removed.

4 ( +6 / -2 )

The blatant racism in the US is systemic and institutional. This is how you jeopardize the peace and safety of your own grandchildren.

3 ( +5 / -2 )

On Dec. 4, 2009, my wife, Eva, and I were driving in our truck in Phoenix when a Maricopa County sheriff’s deputy drove up alongside us in a police cruiser. The deputy stared at us both, then switched his lights on and pulled us over. We hadn’t been doing anything wrong, and at first, when he turned his lights on, we thought he was speeding off to respond to a call.

After a few minutes, he still hadn’t come over to our truck, so we both stepped out to see what was happening. The deputy got out of his car and yelled at us, furious. He demanded my driver’s license and Eva’s, even though she wasn’t driving. And he refused to answer my questions about why he’d pulled me over.

I had my suspicions, though. I was born in Chihuahua, Mexico, though I’ve been living legally in the United States since 1958 and have been a citizen since 1967. When we were stopped, the Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office, led by Joe Arpaio, routinely engaged in racial profiling of Latinos in Phoenix and the surrounding area. After Arpaio refused to end discriminatory treatment of Latinos despite a federal court order that I and other victims had won, he was convicted of criminal contempt of court — which is what President Trump pardoned him for Friday night

6 ( +6 / -0 )

*Trump really believes he'll get away with whatever he does because he knows Republicans have no spines, no ba*s, no integrity.

What did he do that was so bad?

They don't want to get their hands dirty, don't want to draft articles of impeachment

For what reason? By the way, when Bush pardoned Scooter Libby or when Obama pardoned Chelsea Manning and Oscar Lopez? Did that equally bother you?

based on clear obstructions of justice. He's testing the waters for Michael Flynn, for Paul Manafort, for Jared, for himself. He doesn't give a rat's a$s about Arpaio.

How would you know?

It's all about Mueller's looming subpoenas.  *

What a disgusting, nasty, lawless, out-of-control bandit.

The left and the MSM most definitely!

-7 ( +0 / -7 )

Blacklabel: no one is being "held" due to their race, they are held because they broke our immigration laws by entering our country illegally.

They are being pulled over for suspicion of being an illegal alien simply because of their heratige. If you cannot prove citizenship on the spot (i.e. you were born in the US but don't have an ID) then you are held.

Arpaio's actions were deemed racist and he was ordered to stop. He didn't want to stop so he chose to willfully break the law. As the Sheriff. All so he could continue to violate the civil rights of minorities.

Arpaio enjoyed widespread support in the state in his early years, but as time went on he increasingly abused his powers. He started police investigations into county officials who challenged him. He hired private investigators to dig up dirt on judges. The people started to see through his act, his support collapsed, and he lost reelection to a Democrat by 10 points in a red state. He was a shell of his former image from the 90s due to his widespread abuses.

This situation was just the final nail in the coffin. He is not a good man worthy of praise.

6 ( +6 / -0 )

The power to grant reprieves and pardon is nearly absolute, " except in cases of impeachment," according to section 2 of Article II of the US Constitution, ̣Gilbert, 1984, p 285, col 1.

Trump, however, has dangerously played with the thin rule of law. There are many limits to the power of pardon, especially in cases of abuse of power such as High Treason, Bribery or or other high crimes and misdemeanors. section 4, Art II, Gilbert, 1984, pp 285-286.

Both Senator McCain and House Speaker have criticized Trump's move. The night is still very green.

4 ( +4 / -0 )

Zurcronium: Then you will see that Trump endorsing the KKK and the Nazi party

This is a very dishonest thing to say. I think Trump is a buffoon but he has never endorsed any hate group. He has specifically condemned them and the KKK and Nazi's by name. You just want him to be the GOP version of Hillary's mentor Robert Byrd - Grand Cyclopes of the Klan.

Ironically for you Obama could never condemn Islamic jihadi terrorism by name. So can we say that since Obama played footsie with the Muslim Brotherhood and failed to denounce Muslim extremism by name that he supports hate? That's where your twisted anti-factual logic leads. I can play that game if you like but it doesn't do any good for anyone.

Nothing to do with 400 years of history, this is happening today.

You can't change the past but you can learn from it. The Left's perpetuation of racial grievances in furtherance of their 'social justice' jihad only serves to keep the wounds fresh and the racial tensions elevated. Obama was particularly good at it. Government should be pursuing race neutrality and not race conscious policies as Obama did and as the American government has been doing for nearly 50 years. So the nations self destruction continues. Keep doing your part it's working.

-3 ( +1 / -4 )

Arpaio was by all accounts a failure of a sheriff. Far from fighting crime, 911 response times skyrocketed during his tenure because he had all his people working on illegal immigration and harassing his political opponents. It was basically a free for all for rape and other sex crimes, most of which weren't investigated at all. And yet he had no real effect on illegal immigration into the county anyway. He wasn't "just doing his job." He was doing a terrible job, besides being a racist nutbag, and the county was less safe with him in charge.

3 ( +4 / -1 )

The antidote to tyranny is mercy. so pardoning a sheriff who was racial profiling and stopping people because of the color of their skin/nationality sends a message to all law enforcement that this is totally acceptable. There was an infamous man from Germany a number of years ago who did just this to the Jews, except he didn't show any mercy at all it was pure genocide.

SuperLib: They are being pulled over for suspicion of being an illegal alien simply because of their heratige. If you cannot prove citizenship on the spot (i.e. you were born in the US but don't have an ID) then you are held.

If you are arguing about a citizens fourth amendment right against unreasonable searches and seizures you are a little behind the curve. The American federal government collects and stores all electronic communications for everyone. And you are concerned about just a fraction of the population of Arizona - a good chunk of whom are in the country illegally. I know the Left gets excited about people having to carry their 'papers' but all drivers are supposed to carry their 'papers' in the form of a drivers license. Driving is considered a privilege and not a Constitutional right.

The bottom line is the Left wants illegal immigrants to flood the country from socialist leaning non-White nations because it guarantees their future hold on power. It is a brilliant, winning tactic. This is what Obama was talking about when he says he wants the "fundamental transformation" of America. He wanted a socialist nation based on identity politics and competing racial and other tribal characteristics fighting for political power. That is exactly what is occurring. Ideas and the content of ones character is secondary in this divisive and polarizing fight for their upon idea of "equality".

Arpaio enjoyed widespread support in the state in his early years, but as time went on he increasingly abused his powers.

By upholding the law?? Good lord.....

He started police investigations into county officials who challenged him. He hired private investigators to dig up dirt on judges.

Sounds like what Mueller and the DOJ are doing now to the president....hmmmm....

The people started to see through his act, his support collapsed, and he lost reelection to a Democrat by 10 points in a red state.

People, meaning: liberals and illegals, yes, it's true.

He was a shell of his former image from the 90s due to his widespread abuses.

Doing his job and making some of the inmates wear pink underwear? That's horrible abuse! We need to contact Amnesty International.

This situation was just the final nail in the coffin. He is not a good man worthy of praise

Manning and Lopez weren't either and yet, they were pardoned. What's done is done.

Wolfpack: And you are concerned about just a fraction of the population of Arizona - a good chunk of whom are in the country illegally.

You think Latinos in Maricopa County Arizona are just a fraction of the population? Surely common sense alone would stop you from making that statement even if you're unsure of the numbers.

And at which point do the numbers get small enough where we release police officers from following the law? A number would be nice. For example, "we're only talking about x% of the population so we can table their human rights." What number did you have in mind?

The bottom line is the Left wants illegal immigrants to flood the country from socialist leaning non-White nations because it guarantees their future hold on power. It is a brilliant, winning tactic.

Really? We're banking our future in power on people who can't vote? The things you're saying don't even make sense. The fact is the GOP has a demographics problem and that's your limit in the future, not some conspiracy where Democrats get together and bring in illegals and get them to vote.

bass4funk: By upholding the law?? Good lord.....

Sure, if breaking the law is doing your job, then Arpaio was just doing his job. Liking him doesn't mean he didn't break the law, it just means you're a tough talking conservative who doesn't mind the government breaking laws in a case where minorities lose their civil rights.

State and local police have no jurisdiction in immigration cases.

The sheriff had no authority to even check immigration status of anyone.

That authority to hold and arrest lies exclusively with the federal government.

I live in Japan and in Maricopa County and can tell you that he was not reelected because of the millions of dollars in taxpayer money he wasted in having to defend his illegal actions and the illegal dragnet profiling his deputies did under his orders.

People breaking the law in immigration and him breaking the law in profiling means that he was no better than the illegal immigrants. Both broke the law.

Well done!
