have returned positive COVID-19 PCR tests on arrival in Melbourne,

I dont understand that.

These guys were tested in LA before leaving the USA, right?

Or not?

I thought, before enter an airplane, you need a negative test.

Or am I wrong?

Monty, you're right.

So people from overseas who are good at hitting a ball get priority over Australians trying to return home after months stuck abroad because they can't get a flight home...?

Further proof of one rule for them, another for us. Get used to it folks, because things aren't going to change unless we show a bit of civil disobedience to edicts delivered from on high.

Pardon the pun, but we're being played for fools.

@ Monty: I think the fact that it was a charter flight might have had something to do with that. I'm not sure but I think the test requirement before boarding was put in place by airlines, I could be wrong.

In any case, the Australian authorities should have just turned the aircraft around and sent it and its passengers back whence they came.

The test requirement before boarding is the destination’s government requirement, not the airline itself.

It is shocking, and a total disrespect for a country like Australia which is containing the spread so well, to let people board without having gone through proper testing.

Being a charter flight definitely helped this mess to happen.

In a normal Qantas or Virgin flight this wouldn’t happen.

Tennis players welcome, but what about the 35,000 australians registered with the gov who need to get home Morrison! Discusting how Australia treats me and others. But hey ain’t all govs the same.

These people were on a flight from Los Angeles.

The news has been saying that one out of every three people in LA is currently testing positive for the coronavirus, with hospital beds full. IMO, even some people who test negative may be in the early stages of the infection, and thus all travelers should be put into quarantine before being turned loose into the general populace.

It was also reported that last week the Trump administration finally decided that all international travelers to the US have to test negative for the virus before being allowed in. So, ten months after the official start of the pandemic, and ten months after letting more than 40,000 people from China disperse across America, the US is finally doing something proactive about keeping people who test positive out of the country.

I think that is shameful. Sucks

If the flight came from Los Angeles, I'm surprised it only had two positives on board. It has been reported that one in three people in LA have been infected.
