The vaccination program will cost A$250 per Australian. Nothing against vaccinations, but that sounds like a lot.

1 case, 2.000.000 in lockdown.
My opinion: Complete Nonsens!
But as long as the Australiens are OK with that, it is no problem.

Non sense in the short term indeed.
In the mid-long term totally worth it.
Why not sacrifice a few days to get back completely normal life afterwards? Its been working so far in Australia, and surely small and medium enterprises thank the government for that.
Japan should have done the same when it all started, and being an isolated island, would by now have a normal life as Taiwan, Australia and NZ have, with less bankruptcies etc.

couldn't agree more

I dont think anyone here in Japan would like a normal life of lockdowns as in Australia.

The reporter failed to mention that authorities suspected the man to have contracted the highly virulent strain from the UK. He had been working at a second part-time job and had visited several places within Perth over the past week.

And yet, they get to open up sooner and earn money, with less deaths, while other countries are still suffering
Australians are enjoying more freedom now (can attend sports events, shoulder-to-shoulder in crowds, with no masks!) than many other places
Because this is not really about freedoms - it's about inconvenience
Some people just cannot take some temporary inconvenience, even if that meant opening up sooner and enjoying freedom faster

Eerily quiet in the suburbs here today...
As tamanegi said, the guard is suspected to have caught the highly infectious UK strain and had visited a number of locations north of Perth, resulting in hundreds now getting tested.
I live here and fortunately life has been pretty normal the last 10 months, this may sound draconian to some but I haven’t heard any people complaining about ‘individual freedoms’.
