It also would allow the Pentagon to undertake a shopping spree with money to buy ships and submarines, aircraft, tanks and other big-ticket items.

Well, you can never have enough.

Defending the U.S. and int's interests is not just about spending money. It's making strategic non-military decisions as well. Abandoning TPP only helps make "China Great Again". Tossing away our leadership role among our democratic (and even non-democratic) allies can't be made up by spending more money on boats and planes.

The military is a giant money pit. I have nothing against a strong military, but it can more efficient.

Eisenhower (a Republican but the party wasn't what it is today) gave a warning to that effect.

How about America's allies act like real allies and start carrying their own weight? Then the US can sink greater investments into missile defense which has just begun to show real promise.

Hmmmm where are all the he is never going to build the wall people now. Its just a metaphor and wont be an actual physical wall, and even if so it will never be built or funded?

All the people who laughed and called him stupid when he said the wall needs to be see-through in case someone throws a large bag of drugs over the fence and it hits someone.

Haha Trump is such an idiot. Oh wait... then that happened, 12 days later.

And exactly how will this reduce the current $18.6 TRILLION national debt?

5 ( +5 / -0 )

Hmm there are here. Did say he wasn't going to build one. Just it won't change much, will have massive cost overrun, Mexico is not going to pay for it and give up in some portion. It will be a shorter (without solar panels, his idea) to claim "as I promised!".

Wait and see.

Good question, and basically it wont. But national security will need to be a top priority until we can get the world stabilized, ISIS defeated and all these wars to be over. Cuts in other non essential areas are being made in order to support this military budget.

No one questioned all the Obama policies that raised the debt from 10 trillion to 20 trillion. So I think we just need to let the policies of the new President go into effect first, then see where we can cut costs later on. One of the things Trump was elected to do was to strengthen the military, so that is what he is doing for now.

As far as the wall, yeah just wait and see. Its another promise kept, as many people said he was lying and would never actually build it. Seems he is.

Say what? The Republicans were going off about it for years, while conveniently forgetting the two wars their team started without paying for them. And now while in power, suddenly they have no plans in mind to reduce it. Kind of like their obamacare debacle.

Stuff like this really does shatter their talking points about being fiscal conservatives.

They're being exposed for the truth, same as with Obamacare.

Much of the military spending on tanks and missiles would go to protect the wall. The wall would be built and torn down, constantly. Bad hombres down there, y'know?

Where is today's hole in the wall will be a daily watch. This could turn out to be the dumbest, funniest thing yet, from the Republicans.

Trumperica. StupidRUs, Baby!!

Apart from having a taxpayer-funded security detail and taxpayer-funded golf outings, Trump isn't getting anything done. He has no initiatives at all. The most one can say is he'll sign any bill that reverses anything former President Obama has done, or anything corresponding to other Republican "red meat" issues, but he is not the originator of any of those, nor has he set any agenda. He is a boor who has no interest in the task at hand, just the frilly trappings of it.

Sure we questioned, but nobody was listening. Being in debt is the American way for about 50% of Americans. Those numbers are incorrect.

https://www.treasurydirect.gov/govt/reports/pd/histdebt/histdebt_histo5.htm has the real numbers. I've rounded slightly using normal rounding methods.

2000 - $5.7T

2008 - $10T

2009 - $11T

2016 - $18.6T

G.W.Bush added $4.3T.

Obama added $7.6T ... so far. Won't know until the 2017 numbers are released.

It took from 1939 - 2000 to get to $5.7T, so the last 2 Govts really screwed American taxpayers over for the next 50 yrs.

Already moving in advance the money from health care protection to military and big wall.

Great move on the president. Kudos!

I wonder what is the true purpose of the wall. Is it to keep people out or to keep people in?

Keep people that do not have the proper documentation or visa and illegal to live in the US, so that would mean, it would keep them out.

Actually, I thought strengthening of border security would be more likely than a physical wall... but apart from that the only thing we were saying was Mexico wouldn't pay.

But cheers for all the money for the wall, Mexico!!!

All of that will be included in that deal.
