As it should be. If the Democrats were in the exact same position, they would 110% fill the vacant seat and not only that they would never even hold hearings for ANY Republican nominee, Biden made it clear in past statements the Senate should confirm, Reid dumbed the filibuster so Democrats can't complain or moan because they would never, ever consider the feelings of Republicans were they in the exact same position and constitutionally they wouldn't have to. They just need to suck it up and deal with it for a very long time.

Not speculate 110% the Dems would fill it, anyone thinking they wouldn't is just not dealing with reality, of course they would. When Reid was Senate majority leader, he threw over 300 GOP legislations proposals in his drawer, never even gave it consideration and now the Dems are crying foul because the rolls are reversed and they don't like it? Come on man!

Allowing a “reasonable number of relevant amendments” from the minority party has not always been considered a concession in the Senate. It was once referred to as “regular order.” Despite Reid’s claims that he has been “very generous with amendments,” the number of amendment votes per year (not counting non-binding budget amendments, which by law cannot be limited) has declined from 218 in 2007, when Reid became majority leader, to 67 in 2013. Since July of last year, Republicans have been allowed a grand total of four amendments.

So of course the Dems wouldn't wait.

It would be wise and safe to hold off hearings until everyone who was at the superspreader event and have been in contact with them is tested. Already several people who had attended the event where Trump presented Barrett as his nomination have been tested and confirmed positive for COVID-19. Who knows who else who may have come in contact with these people may have the disease already.

No, it would not, the Democrats wouldn't in this situation and neither should the GOP. Congress can still do its job.

No, Democrats would wait because they put Americans' safety and health first as evidenced by the precautions they take such as wearing masks, isolating themselves from others, not holding large rallies with people crammed together, and promoting healthy living. Things that Trump and the GOP don't do. In fact, all they seem to do is mock people who do follow precautions. Probably it's because Republicans care more about their party and image than the country.

P. Smith - Let’s pivot to speculating about what the dems might do instead of addressing the rank hypocrisy of republicans.

Only recently, 2016, elected democrats demanded that their choice for the Supreme Court should be confirmed in a Presidential election year. Democrat party flip-flopping at it's finest.

No right-wing disingenuous gaslighting here trying to rewrite history. Carry on.

Rank hypocrisy, but republicans have no shame so don’t feel the least bit embarrassed.

So wouldnt you call the Dem abrupt change from 2016 policy to the absolute opposite now “rank hypocrisy”??

It's quite typical for Republicans to put politics before Americans' health. People should be wanting to curb or stop this pandemic, not make it worse. Trump getting the virus should be a wake-up call to follow proper procedures to socially distance, wear masks, wash hands, and not hold big events with many people involved. And even though you may not suffer from it, you may spread it to others who will feel the effects of it.
