Republicans needed one democrat to get this done because Kavanaugh is so unpopular that a republican refuses to vote for him. They didn't actually need the single democrat because Pence would have broken a 50-50 deadlock in favor of Kav.

Now that the Dems had their turn bastardizing the nomination process, both sides have had a turn. Is it okay to now we go back to a modicum of civility in this process?

It doesn't matter who started it, it matters who perpetuates it.

All going as predicted a few weeks ago.

There's a reason that evidence and more than 1 witness is required for a conviction. There's a reason states have statute of limitations about these complaints.

If the tables were turned, the Dems would be screaming "due process is a right in the USA!" everywhere.

7 ( +14 / -7 )

As he should be......Seek and destroy didn't work.

4 ( +14 / -10 )

Thank you Sen. Collins, you did the right thing.

There's a reason that evidence and more than 1 witness is required for a conviction.

Please stop repeating this deception. This is not a criminal trial. Standards for conviction in criminal trials are irrelevant.

8 ( +14 / -6 )

katsu78 - exactly. No evidence. A democrat that doesn't believe in due process? Ah ... his skin is the wrong color?

2 ( +9 / -7 )

Standards for conviction in criminal trials are irrelevant.

I disagree. The criminal standard has very ancient roots that were always intended to mirror ordinary societal standards of fairness. (ie. the more serious the accusation, the more certainty required before condemning someone, or the older an accusation is, the less relevant it may become). It was never intended to be some unique and arbitrary standard divorced of societal context and applied exclusively in criminal trials. I think it's perfectly aappropriate in this case based on the seriousness of the accusations.

7 ( +7 / -0 )

As Senator Collins pointed out when she announced her reasons for supporting Kavanaugh, Ford’s accusation is not supported by any evidence. The more we learn about Ford’s lies about the extra door, claustrophobia, fear of flying, and the evidence that people were coached by Ford’s side to support her accusation the more it has become obvious that the Lefts desperation to stop him was way over the top.

There have been indications that the FBI report was damaging to Ford’s side. The fact that Feinstein and Schumer are not demanding the report be made public shows that there is likely something to that idea. If would be good for America if the report were published for all to see in order to put an end to the Lefts wild conspiracy theories.

3 ( +13 / -10 )

I recommend watching Collins’ speech.

1 ( +8 / -7 )

Republicans needed one democrat to get this done because Kavanaugh is so unpopular

Among radical Democrats...

that a republican refuses to vote for him.

And the other did.

They didn't actually need the single democrat because Pence would have broken a 50-50 deadlock in favor of Kav.

Hmmmm....Murkowski is up for re-election, so.....

Now that the Dems had their turn bastardizing the nomination process, both sides have had a turn.

Wait! The right didn’t do anything even close to what the Dems did in trying to crucify this man.

Is it okay to now we go back to a modicum of civility in this process?

Something tells me the Dems won’t.

It doesn't matter who started it, it matters who perpetuates it.

Well, then the Democrats need to take a serious seat back and calm down, all their efforts in trying to derail and destroy this guy failed and it might cost them in the midterms because they not only teed off the GOP, but they unified them, so this could have a very serious backlash for Democrats

-1 ( +8 / -9 )

Innocent until proven guilty applies to the court of public opinion as well. This is the US, not China.

7 ( +12 / -5 )

You think the Kavanaugh nomination was a chaotic circus, just wait until Ginsberg needs to be replace in a few years -- the Dimms will have go absolutely crazy even if Trump nominates a black, female, gay super liberal...

1 ( +9 / -8 )

Where have I heard this name? Oh he is a CNN commentator and Hillary’s press secretary. Imagine that. Another big win right before midterms!

Brian Fallon, executive director of Demand Justice, a group that opposes Trump’s judicial nominees

-1 ( +8 / -9 )

You think the Kavanaugh nomination was a chaotic circus, just wait until Ginsberg needs to be replace in a few years -- the Dimms will have go absolutely crazy even if Trump nominates a black, female, gay super liberal

Without a doubt, but because the left is so unhinged and completely out of control, if that were to happen, what we have just witnessed over the last few weeks would seem like walk in the park, the Dems enjoyed a good run for 50 years of having the courts rule on many of their disastrous failed legislations, now it will be much harder for them to get a lot of these toxic policies through. McConnell will definitely go down as a hero for making this strategic calculation and the same goes for Collins.

-6 ( +6 / -12 )

A majority of legal experts, and people who knew Brett Kavanaugh believe he lied under oath.

A country that allows the obscenity that is Twitler to infest the white house, and abides the corruption that is the Republican congress, is going to celebrate the appointment of an exemplary kangaroo onto its highest court.

-9 ( +8 / -17 )

Please stop repeating this deception. This is not a criminal trial. Standards for conviction in criminal trials are irrelevant.

The witness plus evidence claim simply isn't a legal standard. Witness testimony is evidence (See the Federal Rules of Evidence), and it can be enough for a criminal conviction.

1 ( +4 / -3 )

He survived the obligatory media storm.

2 ( +5 / -3 )

If it all plays out as it appears it will, there will be five solid Conservatives on the court opposed by four arch Progressives. Roberts now becomes the swing vote. He prefers incremental change. Given Thomas’s age the conservatives have eight to twelve years to undue the damage done to the Constitution over the last 50 years.

In my opinion it is unlikely that Trump will be re-elected given the extreme desperation of the Left as demonstrated by the rage unleashed by the Kavanaugh nomination. The Left will go all out. Google, Facebook, Twitter, and all the major mainstream media will fight Trump as if it were their very lives at stake. However if he does win in 2020, he will put in place a seven to two majority that could restore American democracy back to focusing on individual rights from the toxic identity politics that has so horribly polarized the country. The 2020 election will be a barn burner.

0 ( +8 / -8 )

exemplary kangaroo onto its highest court.

Kangaroo?

Judge Brett Kavanaugh is a Circuit Judge of the United States Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit, and a lecturer in both Harvard and Yale Universities.

The little people attacking and criticizing him here couldn't even pass a bar exam or possibly even high school or college.

So much for civil discourse on issues.

-7 ( +5 / -12 )

A majority of legal experts, and people who knew Brett Kavanaugh believe he lied under oath.

Whatever, they don't matter, what mattered and the only people that mattered were Collins, Manchin and Murkowski, that's it and that's all.

A country that allows the obscenity that is Twitler to infest the white house, and abides the corruption that is the Republican congress,

The FBI found that some of Democrats could possibly be involved in witness tampering and by the way you had an idiot millennial 26 years old doxxing and sending letters of ricin, witness intimidation, Feinstein might be up for an ethics probe on how Ford's information was leaked, you have insane nutty liberals chasing and hounding people throughout the capital and you have Hollywood moonbats threatening Collins saying outrageous things about the woman, but these are the same people that would excoriate you if you say anything about a liberal woman. If anyone is corrupt it's out of control Democrats that have now from what the latest polls are saying have agitated a hornets nest and there could be a possible red wave coming. The left have gone too far in their thirst for power and it's come back to bite them and hard and they keep doing this and never learn.

is going to celebrate the appointment of an exemplary kangaroo onto its highest court.

Yup, bouncing and hoping all the way, gleefully.

-12 ( +3 / -15 )

Well, no surprises here. First there was Clarence Thomas and now there's Brett Kavanaugh. Another Supreme Court justice with a foul cloud of public doubt hanging over his head is about to be rammed down America's throat.

As former FBI Director Comey said, if you want to change things, then go out and vote the rascals out. Don't expect the system as it is to correct itself.

Remember, sexual assault is not just wrong, it's a crime. Let the games begin, as in the mid-term elections. That will be the true measure of how this sits with the general public.

8 ( +9 / -1 )

If it all plays out as it appears it will, there will be five solid Conservatives on the court opposed by four arch Progressives.

Why not five arch conservatives opposed by four arch progressives? Or, four solid progressives opposed by five solid conservatives?

Any particular reason you want to fuel the division?

So much for civil discourse on issues.

Exactly:

The little people attacking and criticizing him here couldn't even pass a bar exam or possibly even high school or college.

I know 100% that there is at least one lawyer that is kn goid standing with the state bar to which he is admitted.

3 ( +4 / -1 )

The FBI found that some of Democrats could possibly be involved in witness tampering and by the way you had an idiot millennial 26 years old doxxing and sending letters of ricin, witness intimidation, Feinstein might be up for an ethics probe on how Ford's information was leaked, you have insane nutty liberals chasing and hounding people throughout the capital and you have Hollywood moonbats threatening Collins saying outrageous things about the woman, but these are the same people that would excoriate you if you say anything about a liberal woman.

The FBI is corrupt.l, which probably explains how someone not in the FBI got their hands on the report regarding the investigation. Without that, there's no way to know what the FBI found.

Kav attempted to witness tamper also.

0 ( +3 / -3 )

I know 100% that there is at least one lawyer that is kn goid standing with the state bar to which he is admitted.

Gee, now who might that be in your opinion?

The FBI is corrupt.l, which probably explains how someone not in the FBI got their hands on the report regarding the investigation.

Maybe the Democrats shouldn't have tried to go down this road in the first place, they made this bed and now they have to deal with the fallout.

Without that, there's no way to know what the FBI found.

Well we do know and from the report that has come out that there seems to have been witness tampering going on and one of Ford's friends was said to have been pressured to changing her story to match what Ford's lawyers wanted and add to that the constant stall tactics they have been trying to insistently impose on the committee was more than suspicious

Kav attempted to witness tamper also.

Yeah, sure. lol As if the man who swore an oath under the penalty of perjury.

-8 ( +1 / -9 )

That the most dishonest president has nominated the most dishonest SCOTUS justice is not a coincidence. Kavanaugh will support Trump when required. And the GOP is availing this. Shameful.

I attended college in Maine and so know the reactive sentiment of its lily-white populace, but even Collins is not untouchable in 2020. I will be pleased to see her go.

8 ( +10 / -2 )

Vote out every single Republican, without exception. If the guy is running for dog catcher, vote him out. It's time to rid Washington of this GOP slime fest.

2 ( +7 / -5 )

Remember to vote in November!

6 ( +6 / -0 )

So does that make it about Strike 11 of liberal/lefty/MSM slander campaigns to derail trump that have failed?

Looking forward to the crying and meltdowns videos at the midterms.

-4 ( +4 / -8 )

That the most dishonest president has nominated the most dishonest SCOTUS justice is not a coincidence. Kavanaugh will support Trump when required. And the GOP is availing this. Shameful.

Wow, someone seems angry. But why? The left enjoyed over 50 years of having an activist SC that ruled often on key issues important to liberals even if they were disastrous and now the left are worried that Kavanaugh will support Trump? I'll tell you this, Kavanaugh knows who stood behind him and who tried to ruin him, I am sure he will never forget that and I wouldn't want to be in his crosshairs.

I attended college in Maine and so know the reactive sentiment of its lily-white populace, but even Collins is not untouchable in 2020. I will be pleased to see her go.

At least Collins didn't overreact, rush to judgment, waited and did the right and honorable thing and that was look at the evidence and keeping a cool rational head putting country first before politics. She may lose, but for millions, she became a hero and showed what class and decorum is, even if you don't agree with Kavanaugh, the man did not deserve to be treated the way he was.

Vote out every single Republican, without exception.

The left rustled a Hornets nest, the right is now totally engaged and totally energized, they might vote out all the Democrats and rightfully so, but I think it will be close and not a sure win for the Dems to take the house, especially after what they did.

If the guy is running for dog catcher, vote him out. It's time to rid Washington of this GOP slime fest.

Uh-huh...deal with it.

-9 ( +1 / -10 )

The old, tin-eared reprobate Republicans have gone an' lit the fuse. Stand well back ( with your popcorn)! The countdown to November has started.

4 ( +5 / -1 )

Maybe the Democrats shouldn't have tried to go down this road in the first place, they made this bed and now they have to deal with the fallout.

The democrats are responsible for the corruption of the FBI and leaking its report on Kav?

Well we do know and from the report that has come out that there seems to have been witness tampering going on and one of Ford's friends was said to have been pressured to changing her story to match what Ford's lawyers wanted and add to that the constant stall tactics they have been trying to insistently impose on the committee was more than suspicious

And where can the public read the FBI's report? It hasn't been publicly released, which means nobody on these threads knows the contents. That means this statement:

The FBI found that some of Democrats could possibly be involved in witness tampering

is pure speculation.

Yeah, sure. lol As if the man who swore an oath under the penalty of perjury

The standard for conservatives: If we swear an oath, we speak the truth. I'd libs swear an oath, they just continue to lie.

1 ( +1 / -0 )

And where can the public read the FBI's report? It hasn't been publicly released, which means nobody on these threads knows the contents. That means this statement:

Not in detail, we don’t know that, but we do know is that the FBI is looking into allegations of witness tampering, so I am assuming that it was one of the things that was in the report.

Even on msnbc Joe and Mika were kind of saying that Dr. Ford’s allegations were flimsy to say the least. Wow, looks like someone might get fired at that network.

is pure speculation.

No, because they’re not looking at the Republicans.

The standard for conservatives: If we swear an oath, we speak the truth. I'd libs swear an oath, they just continue to lie.

Which are coming back to haunt the left.

-10 ( +2 / -12 )

Nothing like disparaging the victims of sexual assault. Definitely MAGA.

A defining moment, I'd say.

I'd ask yer man for a link to the speculation but there's not much point.

No wonder women don't come forward more often. Disbelieved, mocked and exposed to a campaign of bs by partisan apologists for rape.

7 ( +9 / -2 )

No, when they do come forward political opportunists also try to bring their own less than believable accusers forward too. Didn’t you notice orher 2020 Presidential hopefuls seemed to have their own individual accuser.

Even creepy porn lawyer jumped in which just ruined your whole narrative. No legitimate accuser would choose that guy for a serious accusation out of all the available lawyers.

-6 ( +3 / -9 )

Excellent. He will make a fine judge.

-6 ( +2 / -8 )

Not in detail, we don’t know that, but we do know is that the FBI is looking into allegations of witness tampering, so I am assuming that it was one of the things that was in the report.

Despite researching, I could not find any credible evidence to corroborate the claim that the FBI is investigating possible witness tampering. Assumptions are also unwarranted.

No, because they’re not looking at the Republicans.

Stay focused. I was referring to people claiming the FBI is looking into witness tampering. Those people are speculating because there is no evidence to back up this assertion.

Which are coming back to haunt the left.

The conservative double-standard is coming back to haunt the left? Of course, I see it now.

It is impossible to engage in civil, critical discourse with another when that other constantly makes irrelevant counter-arguments and constantly deflects. That sure brings the time of theses threads down.

3 ( +4 / -1 )

So much to unpack here.

> No, when they do come forward political opportunists also try to bring their own less than believable accusers forward too. Didn’t you notice orher 2020 Presidential hopefuls seemed to have their own individual accuser.

So this justifies the conservative mocking and offhand disbelief?

Even creepy porn lawyer jumped in which just ruined your whole narrative. No legitimate accuser would choose that guy for a serious accusation out of all the available lawyers.

Why would any woman chose the lawyer that is successfully helping a porn star fight Trump? Let's see, (1) Avanetti is successfully fighting Trump, and (2) he's representing a woman. Then again, it's easier to go in for the ad hominem attack.

Odd that Trump takes the cake when it comes to being creepy, yet his fan bois sling that allegation with a straight face.

1 ( +2 / -1 )

I am not talking about the Deep Blue States; they are lost causes. But rather here in the flyover states. The day of reckoning is fast approaching for the Left.

The Deep Blue states that power the economy whilst dragging the flyover states along.

4 ( +7 / -3 )

The Left will go all out. Google, Facebook, Twitter, and all the major mainstream media will fight Trump as if it were their very lives at stake.

Well said Wolfpack. This nomination is the latest in a series of very heavy defeats for the left. Conservatives should prepare themselves for a furiously vicious response. It won't be pretty.

-2 ( +2 / -4 )

The conservative double-standard is coming back to haunt the left? Of course, I see it now.

Hmmm, I doubt it, that’s why the left keep falling flat on their faces.

It is impossible to engage in civil, critical discourse with another when that other constantly makes irrelevant counter-arguments and constantly deflects.

Same and add to that, the left always think they are the smartest tool in the shed and the right always seems to have to bail them out of the mess they make in the end.

The Deep Blue states that power the economy whilst dragging the flyover states along

And the red states that provide the food and the guns to protect the most powerful elite in the blue states.

-9 ( +1 / -10 )

Hmmm, I doubt it, that’s why the left keep falling flat on their faces

You doubt the conservative double-standard is coming back to haunt liberals, and, because it isn't, the left keeps falling flat on their faces? Okay. Trying to stay on point here is obviously an exercise in futility.

Same and add to that, the left always think they are the smartest tool in the shed and the right always seems to have to bail them out of the mess they make in the end.

More evidence that:

It is impossible to engage in civil, critical discourse with another when that other constantly makes irrelevant counter-arguments and constantly deflects.

but funny how Obama bailed out the conservatives by fixing the economic mess the conservatives got us in.

And the red states that provide the food and the guns to protect the most powerful elite in the blue states.

Glad that you don't deny the blue states power the economy and drag the red states along. The elite in the blue states can by their fold and security elsewhere, so that's not a great counter argument.

4 ( +4 / -0 )

And that corroborating evidence for the assertion that the FBI is looking at witness tampering?

3 ( +3 / -0 )

Get your snacks and drinks ready everyone, when Kavanaugh gets officially appointed, the tantrums the Democrats and SJW's will be throwing will be equal to what happened when Donald Trump got elected - let the entertainment begin.

The games that were played out here could very well bring out Republican supporters to vote in the Mid Terms, don't be surprised if the Republicans keep control of both houses.

-5 ( +1 / -6 )

katsu78 - exactly. No evidence. A democrat that doesn't believe in due process? Ah ... his skin is the wrong color?

You need to quit deceiving. No one involved in this rejects due process, because Kavanaugh has never been on trial. Due process is as irrelevant to this hearing as it would be to a job application or a first date.

2 ( +3 / -1 )

The Left will go all out. Google, Facebook, Twitter, and all the major mainstream media will fight Trump as if it were their very lives at stake.

Deplorable but not unexpected. There'll be hell to pay in November. Can Roy Moore be the next nomination for SCOTUS?

2 ( +4 / -2 )

There sure will be hell to pay in November and the Dems are going to pay dearly.

Nah, Roy Moore, ain't gonna make it, but Amy Coney Barrett has an excellent chance.

-2 ( +3 / -5 )

The Dems really shot themselves in the foot this time. A shickingly bad performance.

-3 ( +2 / -5 )

Conservatives should prepare themselves for a furiously vicious response.

concernedcitizen, yes, it will be furious. At a time when tensions between parties are so intense, a wiser president would have nominated a more moderate candidate, as Obama did with Garland. But now, the GOP owns this, and they will reap the results.

3 ( +5 / -2 )

All this talk about women from the left and it turns out to be a Republican woman who is the hero coming out of this mess. This debacle has revealed Susan Collins to be a stateswoman of weight and merit. Schumer, Feinstein, Booker and Harris are exposed as malicious, petty and deceitful.

0 ( +4 / -4 )

I voted today via the Internet in my home state of Colorado. Straight Democrats, no Republicans, and the sole Green Party candidate. It's the least I could do aside from + and - on comments here and on Twitter...

3 ( +3 / -0 )

This debacle has revealed Susan Collins to be a stateswoman of weight and merit.

As mentioned above, I lived in Maine for three years. Collins represents one of the most reactionary populations in the US. Her vote has weight but no merit. She deserves the condemnation that will come her way.

2 ( +3 / -1 )

@Patricia Yarrow I mailed in my ballot today. I voted straight Republican for the first time ever. The Senate Democrat candidate has of course indicated a vote against Kavanaugh - it was probably decided even before these ridiculous and politically motivated accusations even though the man is an excellent choice who will no doubt interpret the law according to the Constitution.

Do you actually believe Christina Ford and these two other dingbats are telling the truth?

-2 ( +2 / -4 )

Laguna:

a wiser president would have nominated a more moderate candidate

Perhaps. However I beleive President Trump rewarded his conservative base who elected him in part to swing the ideological balance rightward. Hillary Clinton would similarly have rewarded her leftist base if she had been elected.

I don't mind a spirited fight from the Democrats regarding a Supreme Court nominee. But I think in this case they may have left a sour taste in swing voter's month's by thier vicious condemnation of a man based on an accusation not backed by any solid evidence. This was mixed in with racist (anti white) and misandrist rhetoric. If the coming furious response continues along these lines Democrats will turn off swing voters and suffer in the mid terms.

Unfortunately the Democracy Party is not what it used to be in the days of President Carter. I would prefer to see Democrats return to thier roots of more sincere concern for the working person.

0 ( +2 / -2 )

You doubt the conservative double-standard is coming back to haunt liberals, and, because it isn't, the left keeps falling flat on their faces?

Double-standard? After what the left have been doing these last few weeks you have the funny jolts to say that. The liberal mind is interesting.

but funny how Obama bailed out the conservatives by fixing the economic mess the conservatives got us in.

And after he left us with a sluggish economy this President was able to get rid of the stifling regulations and change the entire tax code, something Obama would have never, ever done.

Glad that you don't deny the blue states power the economy and drag the red states along.

The elite in the blue states can by their fold and security elsewhere, so that's not a great counter argument. And the Red States provide the food and guns to protect people like Feinstein, Harris and all the rich liberals and politicians in these blue states.

The Dems really shot themselves in the foot this time. A shickingly bad performance.

That's putting it midly

-2 ( +1 / -3 )

"I would prefer to see Democrats return to thier roots of more sincere concern for the working person."

Unfortunately the Democratic Party has been taken over by despicable leftists.

A lot of Republicans need to be tossed out too, but for right now, we need to keep the Dems out of power.

-2 ( +1 / -3 )

The FBI states facts as facts and opinions as opinions. There won't be anything we don't already know in the report, except the Dems (never call them Dimms, please), will disagree on what a fact is because of their emotional glasses getting in the way.

I miss the days when the evening news worked like an FBI report.

The court of public opinion won't win the vote today. Thank Dog/God/Gravity/{Insert diety}.

Already have my ballot for November. Yes for alcohol served on Sunday mornings! That's a key vote here.

Due process is as irrelevant to this hearing ...

Typical Dem. Laws only matter when they help your ideas.

Unfortunately the Democratic Party is riddled with racism and misandry against whites and men and has embraced activist racist thugs such as ANTIFA. They claim they support women but viciously attack women who disagree with them. I could go on and on but sadly the list is too long. Whatever happened to the party that once stood up for the working class? Trump spoke to the working class and he was voted in. 1 ( +3 / -2 )

Amazingly the GOP has been doing the EXACT SAME THING.

Not like the left, not like the left. They just stirred up a hornets nest on the right and it would seem judging by the polls that the Senate is now completely out of reach for the Dems and the House is not a slam dunk as well, in fact, the GOP might even pick up some seats, so this in the end might be a blessing in disguise.

Waiting for November to see if this country will have some hope for the future or become an even worse corrupt cesspool. Bye bye Ms. American pie....

We shall see.

-1 ( +2 / -3 )

Just watched Collins, defense of Kavanaugh and her reasoning for voting in favor of his confirmation. Pleasantly surprised by her surgical destruction of the Dems and the far Left activists unsupported attacks on him. I disagree however with the free pass she gave to Feinstein. What she did was horrid.

-1 ( +1 / -2 )

Trump is right, for saying that today's Young men need to fear how their current actions may come to haunt them in future. Though, it would have been good to have heard this 30 years ago for some. I wonder what will be said in 30 years time of today's youth ?

2 ( +3 / -1 )

One more chapter in the Trump freak show closes, but this will carry on - the mid-terms, the Russia investigation. We are going to have lots of fun watching and jeering as Trump humiliates his country in front of the world for another couple of years.

-2 ( +3 / -5 )

They should make Senators Feinstein and Schumer swear in Justice Kavanaugh.

1 ( +2 / -1 )

"One more chapter in the Trump freak show closes"

The Democrat intergalactic freak show on steroids closes.

-1 ( +0 / -1 )

No wonder women don't come forward more often. Disbelieved, mocked and exposed to a campaign of bs by partisan apologists for rape.

Partisan? The Democrats didn't care one iota about Ford or what may have actually happened to her. She was just a political tool to block Kavanaugh, nothing more. She could have been anyone. Her story happened to be what they were looking for so they ran with it. See if they stick by her now that Kavanaugh has been accepted. She'll be tossed aside like yesterday's newspaper.

Regardless of how you feel about the results, don't act like the Republicans are the only sleazy ones involved.
