It's good that the President is going. He will visit the displaced and homeless and lift their spirits by reminding them of his historic election victory.
Toasted Heretic
Cripes. It's just a competition with this man.
Epic?
Meaningless platitudes.
katsu78
Funny, the article doesn't mention how instead of empathizing with the victims, he congratulated himself on the size of the crowd...

He went and showed people that he cares about what has happened to them. he assured them the government is doing all it can to restore their lives to normal as quickly as they can.
Nothing wrong with that, if you don't like him then don't go see him it's that simple.
bass4funk
Funny how the media focuses on the little things. His response was better than Bush's or Obama's that's for sure.

Enough time has passed that the neocons are starting to admit that Brownie and his bosses were not doing a heckuva job. Recalling Chaney at a baseball game in San Diego as Katrina came ashore--1800 Americans dead from one storm!
PTownsend
I agree. Now I hope Trump and the R's (especially Ted Cruz) find ways to help those hurt by this devastating storm. Given the Houston area is vulnerable to weather events, I also hope Trump and the R's, who've said they care about upgrading infrastructure, follow through with measures to rebuild the area.
How is Obama part of this issue?
TorafusuTorasan
I can't remember any storms with even a tenth of the fatalities of Katrina under Obama's watch. Someone fill us in on how Obama's handling of natural disasters was lacking.
TorafusuTorasan
Must be some lingering anti-Chris Christie feelings from Sandy (160 dead directly or indirectly). Obama shouldn't have met Gov. Christie on the beach to view the destruction?
Toasted Heretic
I think everyone is aware at Dubya's dreadful response to Katrina. Nobody's going to dispute that.
Am confused over what Obama did wrong over a similar situation? Remind me, merci!

Katsu, considering the low turnout Trump experienced in his recent Arizona rally, perhaps his best choice is to choose a place where the only place they wouldn't be up to their waist in water is in the president's proximity.

I wonder how much government aid will Texas get? Louisiana last time got very little aid.
bass4funk
That's what I was saying, both were bad in that regard.
Nope
During the BP oil spill. He handled that horribly and didn't respond for days, it was a huge environmental disaster and he refused outside help.
So both presidents thad their moments, Trump knew this and jump way ahead of the game before the haters can say anything and they still do, so no surprise.
TorafusuTorasan
Somehow I don't think any non oil rig workers died from the man made BP oil spill, so isn't that an apples to moon rocks comparison? I really have heard it all if you are asking for Harvey recovery to focus on the wildlife.
As for the great Temp, he will be gone and golfing and having his generals reversing his twitter commandments by the time the people doing the real recovery work can even get a handle on the damage.
Toasted Heretic
Mexico has offered aid.

Of course CNN has to make fake news when they have nothing to complain about.
kinda hard to hug people you never met.

Let's hope Trump doesn't screw this up.

And Trump wore his 'official' 45th Presidential cap in Texas which is available on his website for $40. Words fail me.
mukashiyokatta
It is inevitable that Trump and his administration will fail to help the people of Houston. When that happens, those people will explode in fury and indignation -- and the rest of the country will be behind them.
Blacklabel
Yes I am simply horrified that the president of the United States would wear a hat with "USA" on it. The response and Trump's leadership of it leaves people nothing to complain about but his hat and his wife's shoes that she changed on the plane.
Stand by as he is returning on Saturday. Might wear something with a US flag on it then and might even hug someone.
mukashiyokatta
Wait a minute -- isn't Texas one of the states that wanted the federal government to STAY THE HELL OUT of their lives? Didn't their governor want to become president and close down entire federal government departments? Are they now going to ask for taxpayer dollars from non-Texans, despite wanting tax rates lowered?
nishikat
What fake news? It is true that Trump made up the story of Finland buying F-18s and FOX is the one that did not point it out. Proof that CNN is real news and FOX is fake.
bass4funk
A lot of wildlife died, killed off the oyster industry for a few years and many people that depended on the oysters for their livelihood lost businesses and there was a man that committed suicide because his business was destroyed after 120 years, so it's apples and apples comparison.
No, I'm just saying Trump's response was better than Obama or Bush's.
Not Trump, I watched the news obsessively about the weather and anyone that was watching could see what was coming as they predicted 5 feet of rain, "hello?" indicator?
I blame the government officials of Houston for not acting as fast as they could have on this.
We shall see. Texas is not California.
Toasted Heretic
Good point, that was badly handled.
"A number of respected independent researchers have concluded that as much as half of the spilled oil remains suspended in the water or buried on the seafloor and in coastal sludge. And it will be some time before scientists can paint an accurate picture of the ecological damage."
http://www.nytimes.com/2010/10/07/science/earth/07spill.html?mcubz=1
Meanwhile, the current disaster continues. Putting partisanship aside; do you think it's time for the administration to take climate change more seriously?
serendipitous1
Blacklabel
No problem with him wearing a cap with 'USA' on it but wearing such a cap that he ends up profiting from financially? Come on. If people can't see how wrong that is, the USA really is in trouble.
arrestpaul
"Putting partisanship aside"? Seriously? Have you read the replies in this thread? It's been one, big, partisan attack.
The residents of Texas are drenched by one hurricane/tropical Storm and the Trump haters turn out in force to whine about everything he does, and doesn't, do. Texans, thousands of other volunteers, and multiple government agencies are doing their best to aid the residents of Texas. Not one of those useful people are wasting their time by whining on the internet.
Blacklabel
Amazon is selling the exact same cap and in fact the blue color one is sold out so I'm sure Amazon made a lot of money In it. I don't see a problem with it, people who don't want it don't have to buy it.
Texas A&M Aggie
Thank you, Mr. President, for coming here to visit us. You are indeed the greatest U.S president of the 21st century. . . .

You can get a Make America Great Again Donald Trump Hat Cap Republican 2016 US President USA cap on eBay for US $2.29 delivered from Malaysia. Good deal. Lots of USA goods on eBay direct order from Asia. Check! Good deals to be had. No problem ordering cheap USA goods direct from China. Save money and look cheesy. Support USA and Trump with cheesy cheap USA goods from cheap-labor countries.
Blacklabel
Or we can go to the Trump website and make a campaign contribution of $40 and get the real thing and support our President's reelection. You guys act like that $40 goes in Trump's pocket or that the financial solvency of a multibillionaire depends on him selling a hat to us.
Plus has nothing at all to do with the exceptional response to the flooding and hurricane in Texas. If there were anything wrong with the response, the media would be all over it. All they have is hats and shoes. Oh, the mayor of Houston had his representative reach out to Chelsea Clinton to get the Clinton Foundation to help raise money. Is that news?
nishikat
What is this? A $40 hat made in China?
Blacklabel
No one cares about the hat or his wife's shoes. If you care so much, you can buy one from the official Trump site, not ebay, and report back to us where it was made.
We care about the response to the disaster and whether the government is doing everything they can to help these people in their time of need. I have not heard anything that says they are not getting the support they need to recover. So this is why the media has nothing to report.
nishikat
It sounds cultish. Why buy a $40 dollar Trump for USA hat from trump.com when you can get the same thing from ebay for less than $4 dollars. It would seem anyone who pays for such an overpriced hat is not really that smart. It may reflect their lack of common sense with other things they do in life (like believe that Trump made a Boeing deal with Finland). Really! $40 for a hat that you can get for less than 4 from ebay.com- direct from China.
They have lots to report. They busted Trump in another lie with the fake f-18 Boeing deal to Finland. There is also the lie that Mexico will pay for the wall. And even if it is built it's nothing a 10-dollar ladder can't handle.
Blacklabel
itIm done talking about hats. Are there any complaints about the hurricane and flood response from the federal government not related to hats, shoes, or the 'its too early' nonsense? I have heard of none.
nishikat
The government's response is fine.
I'm intrigued. What is going through a Trump follower's mind buying a hat for more than 10x the price they can get it on ebay. Do Trump followers think it's a magic hat or something? It's just a cheesy hat that is made in China. But 40 dollars?
Blacklabel
I said I was done talking about hats, but... If you go to the website, you realize that your purchase of the hat is treated as a campaign donation. So instead of your money going to a Chinese counterfeiter on Ebay, your $40 goes to the reelection campaign of Donald J. Trump for a 2nd term as President. Which is what anyone who would buy and wear that hat in the first place not only understands, but wants to happen.
Ok now Im done talking about hats.
bass4funk
Ok, so that's one opinion and we already have known for years how much the NYT had Obama's back.
http://www.motherjones.com/politics/2010/05/obamas-sluggish-response-oil-spill/
So since both Bush and Obama handled two disasters horribly, Trump is way ahead of the game and at least doing the best he can, that's all anyone could ask.
I wonder if any of the righteous non-violent (lol) ANTIFA are going down to Houston to help those people, put their talents to good use.

The lives of thousands of people have been devastated by hurricane/tropical storm Harvey and you chose to discuss Trump hats??
