where the government ordered all residents to wear face-coverings outside.

Having a lot of effect it seems. lol

This is what happens when taking ideologic measures that just annoy the population instead of addressing the real causes of the spread of the infection.

Which are...?

Why are you asking that since it's clear what I was referring to and that you actually followed up on it in the rest of your post?

And I am sorry no, masks are an ideological issue elsewhere than US and Brazil because like in the case of Australia, the decision to force people to wear them outside was done without any scientific background and facts supporting that decision .

The reference to the three in Queensland is incorrect, two of the girls were in Melbourne for a week (where they likely contracted the virus) and falsely claimed they were in Sydney (where they transited) when returning to Brisbane. They’ve now been criminally charged with fraud/making false health declaration.

Sorry, reading again I see the article was partially correct!

So easy, and so quick. Stay safe everyone.

If the mask works, why the social distancing? If the social distancing works, why the masks? If both work, why the lockdown? Hmm.

Masks work in reducing the area of effect of particle distribution from talking, coughing and sneezing. It does not eliminate the particles.

Social distancing reduces the infected particle distribution effect on people.

When both are practiced it greatly reduces but does not eliminate, the risks of spreading the infection. The lock down is another factor to reduce the spread of infection from people unaware they are infected and are spreading the virus and from people who either suspect they may be sick, or know they have been diagnosed as infected but who take limited or no action to prevent their infection being passed to others.

Victoria needs to move to a stricter stage 4 lock down with only essential services operating and in a reduced capacity. The level of community infection is already larger than imagined as seen by the increases in infections confirmed and deaths. Schools closed once again with work from home and study at home the permitted exceptions.

There is plenty of scientific evidence that the masks help ! Even if the mask fails to completely prevent infection it might help lower the initial amount of virus in your body. Also it might prevent some other infection in the same time. It could be the difference between quick recovery or complications.

Australia did good making face covering mandatory.

There is no silver bullet . The methods above will all help Australia flatten the curve. The initial lock-down too is in place ( i think) to carefully probe their own hospitals, care facilities, expertise , procedures.

BigYen

Masks are only an ideological issue in countries like the USA or Brazil.

Not true. I see similar discussions in other countries.

Not true. I see similar discussions in other countries.

Only by a few fringe lunatics. It's only in countries where the leaders were incompetent enough to politicize the wearing of masks, where this discussion is actually being had in earnest. Other countries are willing to buckle down for the lives of their people, rather than whining about CNN.
