These musical chairs might shift some of the attention off the totally inept Chief Executive Carrle Lam, though her time must be soon coming to an end.

Beijing is destroying Hong Kong. They just don't see it and their liaison people are clueless.

come under criticism for failing to foresee the public reaction to a now-withdrawn extradition bill or adequately report upwards on the sentiment on the ground.

Exactly why would a Beijing liaison need to know anything about Hong Kong sentiments for laws initiated inside Hong Kong? Oh .... the ball drops. It wasn't initiated internally. It was pushed by mainland outsiders. So much for any appearance of 2-systems, 1-country.

At this point, there is only 1 path forward for Hong Kong. Full democracy. Either Beijing can let it happen and come along for the fantastic ride or they can be left behind and Hong Kong will die as business moves to Singapore and Taipei. The middle and upper class Kongers have plans to leave when it becomes clear there's nothing left for them. Australia, Taiwan, Canada are popular destinations ... democracy and free speech are something they know and will not allow anything less.

The Hong Kong poor and new mainland immigrants will be left behind, holding the bag, as it were.
