This kind of situation is precisely what the big sacrifices done during lockdowns are meant to avoid. When they work people complain that the disease wasn't even that dangerous on the first place, but not containing the pandemic brings terribly serious consequences in the places where it is spreading. This is not just dangerous to the most vulnerable but to the general population as well.

It was too late to avoid having at least 4000 deaths per day, but international cooperation can still help reducing the damage.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has been widely criticized for not acting sooner

He's been busy building a new parliament building, to replace and hide the elegant circular Parliament House designed by Sir Edwin Lutyens, the British architect. The cost is estimated to be more than 2 billion US$, money that could have gone towards 40 hospitals or health care purchases, such as oxygen cylinders, PPE outfits, and drugs. Despite the pandemic, he is still a bussing in 2,000 migrant workers each day, to work on it.

As soon as Modi realized that this is way beyond his ability to handle, he passed the buck to local state governments. All he does these days is to mouth meaningless platitudes on his radio show. He has of course never taken questions from the media or members of the public so it's all a one way street.

"In some villages where the charity works in the northern state of Uttar Pradesh - home to about 200 million people"

The BJP CM of this state is a 'monk' who threatened to jail and confiscate the property of doctors complaining about shortage of oxygen since the official line is that there is no shortage. A few days later he tweeted that he has directed scientists in the state to look at ways of preparing Oxygen from Nitrogen.

Anglophobia alive and well in India. Well, that's just cutting your nose to spite your face, and throwing the baby our with the bath water. Well done!

421k cases (That we know about) on 1.95 million tests. That is a positivity rate of 21.6%. Way too high.

I wonder how track and trace is going for them?

Prof. K. Vijay Raghavan is a great scientist, including other advising committee members to the govt. They warned long before. Prof. Menon predicted what could be the severity of the problem. In the first place, somebody (the head of the govt) should have the capacity to take that advice. It is no less than a genocide.

Modi should be charged for CRIMES against his people. India is the world's fifth richest nation yet very little was spent on building hospitals and investing in healthcare.

Yes, that is very true for India, probably because they have a shockingly high incidence of vitamin D insufficiency. It's a shame that nobody seems to be addressing that.

This was passed onto the states when the cases/deaths had reduced to less than 10%, everyone knows this but the fake news spreaders are doing there best to twist the facts and enjoying this, and enjoying it to to extent where in people dying of COVID are described as dropping dead as flies.. and the JT moderator allowing these types of post.. wonder what is this Evil Buddha's number i.e how many he wants dead from this pandemic..

A few days later he tweeted that he has directed scientists in the state to look at ways of preparing Oxygen from Nitrogen.

Science is not a forte of haters of the type who love death and misery...the more the better.. reference was to fractional distillation.. but drop it..

If you mean PPP, than maybe but I will not count on that.. as for building hospitals and investing in healthcare, may want to do some research but that's not why the comment was posted in the first place..right.

412k not 421k..nice try.. this with 331k recoveries.. with the current recovery rate at 98.68%, the infections are high but so are the recoveries.. as usual no mention of the recoveries and the recovery rate.

Thousands Dying Of Covid While PM Modi "Building New House"

Classic yellow journalism.. as if there is any relation between the two, that new house is mostly the new parliament house and Common Central Secretariat, this finally gets rid of the legacy British era parliament house, hope that relic is demolished.

Post something which makes sense.. the migrant workers were all kicked out overnight by the local UT Delhi government..they were treated worse than slaves.. may want to lookup who was responsible for that..

I do not know, but I just read it on the internet "India currently spends about 1% of GDP on health, among the lowest for any major economy." Is not it true?

"wonder what is this Evil Buddha's number"

Not my number. The question is how many people does Modi want dead and gone before the thick headed idiot whom Indians thought fit to elect as their PM realizes that he needs to do more than mouth homilies.

"reference was to fractional distillation"

You can't prepare oxygen from nitrogen using fractional distillation. You can't prepare oxygen from nitrogen using anything. But that knowledge is too much to expect from people who think that eating Coronil tablet will prevent Covid.

0 ( +3 / -3 )

Not my number..

Definitely your number..you only described them as dropping like flies... since you love the dead what is you worldwide number...

you can't prepare oxygen from nitrogen using fractional distillation...

ohh..that nitrogen reference was to nitrogen in the air...the fractional distillation of air..

-3 ( +1 / -4 )

I do not know, but I just read it on the internet..

That's the issue with most of the posters on Social Media, just read it from the internet.. as for that GDP.. first understand what is covered under GDP and what is not ..and if GDP is really any indicator of a nations progress.

"that nitrogen reference was to nitrogen in the air...the fractional distillation of air"

The exact tweet - "The CM on Saturday said, the government should explore all possibilities of raising oxygen supply and look for alternatives. Officials should get in touch with experts from IIT Kanpur and other technical institutes and look at the possibility of converting nitrogen to oxygen"

Did they put tracing apps on all their smart phones?

-4 ( +0 / -4 )

This is terrible. I have read that the country only spend 1% of its taxes to the public health that's why they're caught off guard with this huge huge discrepancy of oxygens.

1 ( +1 / -0 )

The exact tweet..

That's the problem , the hater types read and believe literally can never see thru the article or tweet..as to what is exactly being described or tweeted.. the reference to nitrogen is the nitrogen in the air, 78% is nitrogen.. now for per the below article..

Such Nitrogen plants, which take air from the atmosphere as raw material, are available across India in various industrial plants. Therefore, each of them has the potential of being converted to an oxygen generator to tide over the current emergency.

So you are saying you do not know about the Aarogya Setu app, just posted a comment right..
