In a far-rightist's world, would you consider government contractors, for example the thousands here in Japan, including those working for US Armed Forces Network, to be socialistic

Would you call Japanese eating with chopsticks instead of forks and knives less refined?

Unless you can provide some evidence for that assertion, we'll just take it as more of the same chin music.

Yes, the roaring economy now, companies coming back to the US internationally to reinvest in our economy, the lowering of the corporate tax rate....tell me when to stop....

He certainly knows how to "use" the social media as Trump has been forced to.

Obama had the media as his partner and social media as a tool, but this character is going directly for the "popularity" contest using the social media. He is playing the less direct approach and appealing to the "common people" base that desire "personal" intimacy via the social media without actually having to deal with anything other than to express an appealing opinion along with that intimate scene. In social media "credibility" and "accountability" is sometimes very much ignored as much as having a need to be "entertaining".

Will be an entertaining and interesting campaign... if he does get the attention needed...

The man is not promoting self-reliance or entrepreneurship or even capitalism in its purest form. The man doe not promote economic growth or lowering taxes. The man like the rest of his family is a pure and unapologetic socialist.

Unless you can provide some evidence for that assertion, we'll just take it as more of the same chin music.

turn the US into another Valenzuela.

Where is this fabled "Valenzuela" of which you often speak?

It’s looking like a circus. Way too many (D) candidates. Biden will take him down easily.

But hey- anything can happen. Trump defied all odds & became prez. Heck...... we even had a Kenyan POTUS.

Al, the Democrat candidates are "pro choice" which is the lefts wording for "pro abortion"

No, no one is pro abortion. I’m pretty sure we’d all much prefer to live in Utopia where no one ever needs another abortion again.

But back in reality...

Nobody is pro-abortion. You make it sound as if abortion provides hand out punch cards so you get your 11th abortion free.

Your probably the only person that can be sarcastic and truthful at the same time.

No, he's not.

Castro is the second candidate to formally launch a campaign. Former U.S. Representative John Delaney has been running for more than a year. U.S. Senator Elizabeth Warren of Massachusetts has formed an exploratory committee and Representative Tulsi Gabbard said Friday that she will run for president.

Who?

@bas4 Code alert!! So the man essentially wants socialism

In a far-rightist's world, would you consider government contractors, for example the thousands here in Japan, including those working for US Armed Forces Network, to be socialistic?

It's not an attack on you, it was an attack on that which you have stated.

Appreciated. I was simply disengaging to allow the thread to not be littered with the nonsense I had been engaged in.

"And it's time for a new commitment to make sure that the opportunities I've had are available for every American."

That's what Trump is doing. 50 year low unemployment rate.

I wouldn't vote for Julian Castro over Trump, but I would vote for his daughter Carina for Secretary of the Adorable: ( from CNN! )

Julian Castro's daughter flips her hair and steals the show at the Democratic convention

@Fizzbit

You made the assertion that the BBC did not report about Yemen at all. When I posted they did, you then claimed they didn’t report from Yemen. After I pointed out videos showing the BBC reporting from Yemen, you basically asserted they didn’t report in the way you liked.

This is ridiculous. Fake news has to stop. Perhaps the sites you frequent make these claims but you shouldn’t believe them.

Where did you get it into your head that the media didn’t cover Gabbard’s announcement? I just did a quick google and found she announced it on a CNN show.

The man wants to now impose radical socialism

No he doesn't.

2 ( +4 / -2 )

The man wants to now impose radical socialism to this country and thereby completely bankrupting it, this is hilarious. The man is a complete joke. The Democrats and socialist radical ideas will turn the US into another Valenzuela.

-4 ( +2 / -6 )

I watched one of those BBC reports. NOTHING questioning the legitimacy of the Saudi war/attacks.

But, it sounds from Jimizo's comment that the claim you made was that the BBC didn't report from Yemen, not that they hadn't questioned the legitimacy of the attacks. Are you shifting the goalposts here? Or was Jimizo incorrect in his assertion that you had claimed the BBC didn't report from Yemen?

In summarizing his political positions, Castro endorsed"Medicare for all," which would in effect create a national healthcare plan by allowing anyone to join the public healthcare system. That policy point is likely to divide Democrats in the primary, with more moderate candidates favoring a less drastic approach.

He used his launch to repeat support of the Black Lives Matter movement. He spoke about the need to address climate change

Code alert!! So the man essentially wants socialism, income redistribution and is supported by a racist group. This guy will never get elected. The apple doesn’t fall far from the tree.

Crazy Joe, I agree about the senate races.

2020 will be a crowded field for Dems but the experience and name recognition these "youngsters" gain will be invaluable for the party. Rejuvenation is required, and even those defeated will remain active.

Interesting that Castro praised Black Lives Matter. Hispanics and blacks have not often cooperated well. Campaigning is not always about winning but about opening doors to dialogue.

Hawaiian Democratic Congresswoman Tulsi Gabbard has launched her 2020 U.S. presidential bid as well. But don’t expect to hear much about her from the MSM

I read about this on the BBC - the same outlet you claimed didn’t report from Yemen despite evidence they did with a quick Google.

Why do you discredit organizations like this with fake news? They have their flaws, but using fake news to slam them is corrosive.

5 ( +5 / -0 )

we probably won't hear the Trump crowd attacking D candidates on honesty/ethics/morality grounds.

Oh I'm sure we will. Someone is already claiming this guy is 'pro-abortion' (which is about as moronic a statement as there ever was. No one has ever been pro abortion).

Fortunately, the answer to every morality claim by team Red is a pretty simple one: but Trump.

1 ( +4 / -3 )

I think it's great to see intelligent, younger candidates throwing hats in the ring. I echo the worry that the D establishment might sabotage those deemed not acceptable by PACs that have previously backed Ds.

With Trump having lowered the honesty/ethics/morality bar to its nadir (let's hope), and his backers saying that's just fine with them, we probably won't hear the Trump crowd attacking D candidates on honesty/ethics/morality grounds. Amirite?

Democrats need to add 3 or 4 additional Senate seats in order to take control of the Senate, and there are 34 Senate seats up for grabs in 2020.

I'm happy to hear Castro's announcement. But before the Democratic presidential field gets too overcrowded, we need to convince more compelling candidates to seek Senate seats in their home states.

Hawaiian Democratic Congresswoman Tulsi Gabbard has launched her 2020 U.S. presidential bid as well. But don’t expect to hear much about her from the MSM tools of the establishment, cuz she thinks for herself and has integrity.

It was the top story on CNN's homepage for nearly 24 hours, the US Edition at least.

It even made Cadet Bonespurs run in the small hands, I mean print, section.

He's pro-abortion and gay-rights friendly

if she gains in popularity, and she will, she will get Bernie Snadered by the Dem establishment.

Medicare for all by taxing corporations and "richest 1%." I guess he never got the memo - corporations don't actually pay taxes.

Nobody wants to "lock up illegal immigrant children", but when their parents break US law and enter the country illegally, what should happen? Let the kids run free? Catch and release doesn't work. He wants to streamline immigration. It is unclear what that actually means. Also, he wants "a path" to citizenship for the 11M people illegally in the USA. I don't believe deporting all of them is viable, but there needs to be restitution for breaking US law.

If he can find a way to fund these programs without raising taxes, I'm all for it. He seems like the lease-lefty Democratic candidate so far. Being in Texas and in San Antonio, most democrats aren't too far left. Once we learn more about his ideas, he might be the best candidate. Found this: https://www.pbs.org/newshour/politics/what-does-julian-castro-believe-where-the-candidate-stands-on-8-issues

2 free years post-high school of education for everyone.

Gun control, seams reasonable, but wants to ban certain weapon types, instead of requiring training and registration.

Environment - typical democratic stance.

He's pro-abortion and gay-rights friendly.

Wants to pull US out of Syria, just like Trump.

Wants to renegotiate NAFTA to improve worker's rights and pay regardless of country.

Though I'm a little worried about his religion and how to pay for all these things. Maybe he should take 2 yrs of accounting and finance back at community college?

He has it very hard, it will be too dificult to take down the fascist pseudo-christian dictatorship of Trumpland..
