The populists didn't win this election

Democracy: citizens voting in alignment with the wishes of ruling elites.

This too, shall pass.

The rise of populism and its supporters has happened before and we shall vanquish them again, like we did in the 30s and the war that followed. They will become pariahs once people move beyond protest votes. Not that there's anything to cheer about the ruling classes, either.

(When I say "we", obvs I mean my forebears... am getting on but I ain't that old)

I do feel Sinn Fein could have done better but Fine Gael still seem to hold some kind of sway over the populace. For now.

It's good to see the European Experiment finally reaching it's conclusion. Let's be honest, there really isn't much of a common European identity. At heart, most people are actually Germans, or French, or Hungarian, and want to maintain their sense of independence. Hopefully this will be the end of the Euro-crats and their pork barrel sinecures.

We have many identities and we are the buffer between the madness of Russia and the US.

You can be a member state and be independent, too. But now is not the time for dissolving the EU. Tackle the bureaucracy by all means, but be wary of the superpowers that seek to benefit from disharmony.

The media is trying to spin this but it was a huge defeat for the globalists.

And the boogieman is down by one point.

The young voters who, for a change, turned out and voted (resulting in the highest voter turnout in decades), mostly for the Green parties, may have kept Europe together
