The White House obviously (and rightly) sees any attempt to limit hate speech on-line as a direct threat to Donald Trump's twitter account.

The White House appears to be a proponent of the 1st Amendment to the Constitution except the freedom of the press part.
The just launched a tool to track political bias censorship: https://www.theverge.com/2019/5/15/18626785/white-house-trump-censorsip-tool-twitter-instagram-facebook-conservative-bias-social-media

It’ll soon be just fluffy bunnies and sunny weather that will be allowed-no place for reality in this world eh?

Jacinda, the road to hell is paved with good intentions.
Thankyou to the White House for protecting our rapidly diminishing freedoms.

Just to clarify.
Non-govt organizations and companies, including JT, facebook, twitter, msft, whoever, are free to censor anything they want for any reason they want. Private people and companies can censor anything on their properties.
The issue is when the govt gets involved with censorship by promoting or demoting it, then that's where the 1st amendment comes in. Govt censorship is extra bad because they come with the threat of force, possible violence and imprisonment for violations. Just ask {insert large country name that doesn't have freedom of speech}.
If I violate Facebook's censoring, they won't show up at my house with guns and arrest me. That's the difference and why the White House shouldn't do more than they did.

Internet control is the end of freedom. There are spy satellites, cctv, face recognition, algorithms, malware/spyware, and many more. This is just human thought suppression. When I read a newspaper, I never bought anything from the ads. But at least I have a choice to know that it is possible to buy eyebrow curlers, and they actually exist.

Pretty clear. This can only be changed by amending the US Constitution which effectively requires 2/3rds of Americans to agree to the change.
As an American, this is one of the most important ideals for our republic. It is there to protect us from our own govt, not from hurt feelings.
