You can have three seasons in one day in Melbourne.

Um yeah, because an anecdote about Melbourne, one city in a HUGE country, is an accurate reflection on the weather in the whole country right?

You can see three seasons in one day in any city in Australia, right?

Desalination. Pipe it through and disperse throughout australia the way they pipe oil through north America. Set up smaller veins off of that for sprinkling and irrigation and guess what? Lakes, green meadows, etc. This would be a wonderful project to start after such a beating.

We have desalination plants in almost all states in Australia except Tasmania and Northern Territory.

Victoria State's desalination plant cost $ 6.1 billion. Melbourne desalination plant costs taxpayers $649 million in annual operating charges for 27 years, even without a liter of water receive from desalination plants. The total payment is expected to be $19 billion or more.

Actually, Australia does not need desalination plants, but Australia needs Dams. The Australia rivers and creeks poorly manage and also, failure to maintain depth of the creek. Some creeks are no more than one foot deep. The creeks were flooded when heavy rainfall in the state. The Australian said we do not have an enough water. The Australian Government said we do not have water in Australia. Actually, the Australia has water, but it wasted into the sea. If we have built the dams in all available locations and then the water shortage problem will be sorted and flood problem will be sorted in the most flooded state like QLD. Also, The Australia can produce a hydroelectricity and farm products by irrigation to drought affected area.Former PM Tony Abbott had policy to build dams and irrigation system in all states, but especially in QLD. The power greedy egoist Micheal Turnbull back stabbed his boss PM Tony Abbott and Tony Abbott's plan was murdered by Turbull too.

Desalination.

Desalination is very energy intensive.

If you don't live in Australia and then you will think the weather like this in Australia was not normal. You can have three seasons in one day in Melbourne. No one can correct predict weather in Australia. Even Australia BOM (Bureau of Meteorology) weather prediction was 50/50. However, this year Bushfire was not normal because the bushfire was deliberately started by human in NSW, QLD and SA. VIC and Kangaroo Island Bushfire was started by lightning.

The former the Chief Commissioner of the Climate Commission, Professor Timothy Flannery declared “even the rain that falls isn’t actually going to fill our dams and river systems” in 2007. Julia Gillard's Labor Government had appointed Flannery chief commissioner of the Climate Change Commission. All Labor State Governments rush to build desalination plant in all Labor States. After Labor states rush to give contractor to build desalination plant, we have widespread drenching rains, flooded towns and cities, and dams full to the brim and overtopping in 2012.

Chip Star:

or has the climate of the whole earth (which is always changing) changed even more than might be expected?

No, since any "expectation about the weather is meaningless. Come on, give us your "expectations" for the "climate" and we will check.

So, is this abnormal weather for Australia, or is this 'normal' Australian extreme weather,

Don’t know.

It never rains, it pours.  At least the fires are out (for now).
