Hats off to you, Chancellor Merkel for speaking out against anti-semitism!
As ultranationalism rises around the world in European countries with histories of anti-semitism, in the US, in Russia, leaders need to do whatever they can to ensure it's limited and laws are used to restrain ultrarightists and other bigots committing crimes against any group.

An awful woman. A tragedy for Germany and Europe that she was ever elected.

She was very successful at the ballot box. She got immigration wrong in my opinion but there was she was clearly doing something right when you look at her electoral performance. I don’t know enough about German politics to make the kind of statement you made.
You seem to know a lot about German politics. Would you like to break down her performance in different areas?

As the rise of fascism and anti-Semitism continues unabated, the world needs people like Merkel.
She's absolutely right - there is a moral duty to resist this creeping horror.

Let's be honest, plenty of euros collaborated and/or sympathised with the nazi regime. A white, Aryan-only Europe without Jews, Gypsies and communists was very appealing to many on the continent. The 'enemy within' I.e collaborators are the very reason governments surrendered pretty quickly as they knew they were fighting a losing battle with the prospect of an even bloodier, full blown civil war.
Antisemitism has been deeply ingrained on the European mainland for centuries and it will take decades if not longer to get rid of it.

Yes, but Germany now has far more people from places where anti-Semitism is rife thanks to her immigration policy.
In our own UK, the journalist Mehdi Hasan, a practicing Muslim, wrote a very honest and commendable piece about routine anti-Semitism in the Muslim community with conspiracy theories which would put Alex Jones to shame.
One problem with uncontrolled immigration is that you put other minorities at risk.

you guys are beyonf hope, Im afraid. Merkel has brought about disaster for germany and much of western europe. Its been suggested she has been deliberately engineering the triumph of the far right in germany, tho personally I think shes just a selfish grandstanding moron.
Jimizo, I think you actually get it, but you just cant allow yourself to reach the inevitable conclusions. Past conditioning I guess.

Merkel is awesome. That's why her people love her, and she kept getting elected until she decided she was done on her own terms. She's been a beacon of light in Europe, and the Europeans love her accordingly.

I’ve got no idea what you are trying to say here.
My point is the main threats to Jewish people come from the far right ( I’m sure you caught the news about the filthy massacre in a US synagogue ), and Jihadis who’ve already slaughtered Jews in Europe along with appalling anti-Semitism among many in Muslim communities.
Both need to be dealt with. Don’t try to make excuses for either. Too many are willing to call out one but shy away from calling out the other. You strike me as someone who avoids calling out the far right.

Mr Noidall, I agree completely.
