How anyone could not see this coming I’ll never know.

Good. Let President Trump, the Israelis and the rest of the world know in no uncertain terms that they will not be insulted by the sham of a proposal and that only a complete withdrawal to pre 1967 borders, sovereignty with East Jerusalem as capital, right of return and repatriations by Israel will suffice.
bass4funk
Oh, well.
Ah_so
Seems like the Middle East is even less safe after this crazy plan.
I presume the master dealmaker himself will be able to sort this out.
Mr Kipling
The “plan” is not real, its just to reinvigorate the Israel loving born-again Christian Right in the up coming US election.

Palestinian rejection was absolutely expected.
That they are cutting all ties with the U.S. and Israel.... well, in practical terms, we shall see what that translates into.
I am certain the Palestinians plan to sit tight for now. Given that Trump is up for re-election this year and Netanyahu is in a prolonged fight to remain as Prime Minister, there is no question they are hoping for outcomes in both countries more favorable to their interests.
What I found interesting was that Oman, Bahrain and the UAE were present at the White House when the plan was announced. Not making too much out of it, but given the Iran vs. Saudi Arabia conflict and closer unofficial ties between Israel and some of the Gulf Nations, there is a dynamic at work here that is new.
It will be an interesting year in that part of the world. Which seems to be the case EVERY year.

Bullseye!

1 step further from peace.
1 step closer to conflict.
Surely even a Trump supporter can see it's typical Trump style 'plan', all me, me, me...and at some point in time search within to spare a little bit of humanity for those sufferings, ie both Palestinians and Israelis.
Chip Star
Willful ignorance.
SuperLib
Another signature Trump deal.

Well this is another total failure from Trump and it is to be expected from the Despot who has robbed America of democracy as shown by the current US senate completely ignoring their oaths to be impartial with two exceptions from brave Republican Senators.
Israel to provide zero compromise and get everything it wants and Palestine to get nothing it wants. No compromise means no deal. Even a blind person could see that. This generates more hatred towards America and Israel, but it is of their own doing so it is hard to have sympathy.
Andrew Crisp
Big deal the Palestinians don't haven't anything to offer in the first place, the economy is broke, there is a blockade by Israel if the Palestinians want to have any future they need to get serious with some genuine deal making and keep their side of the deal and clamp down on the many terrorist groups operating within its borders
Serrano
Another signature Trump deal.
Too bad Obama couldn't get a peace deal done with the Palestinians during his eight years.

Super Lib:
Seeing that the other Trump deals are pretty successful, that would be a rare endorsement. In the event, I am not holding my breath for this or any other Middle East deal, all of which (including those by the Saint Obama) having failed.
As for the antics by Abbas, that is the usual hot air. The PA remains dependent on Israeli and US assistance, his rants do not change that.

Wouldn’t have mattered. Trump would have scribbled it out with a crayon.

They cut ties, perhaps the funding should be cut, see how theg do without the billions everyone is giving them
Toasted Heretic
You're kidding! Glad I missed that.
Very sinister if that stalking, threatening trash talker is back here.
WilliB
mrababurunee:
Yes, that was my thought too. If Saudi coughs up funds as replacement, yes, but I am under the impression that the Saudis are on board with the current plan.
otherworldly
It's a better plan than most.
Jimizo
Yep. To be fair to Trump, he isn’t the first to capitalize on this.

This plan gives the Palestinians the chance to actually have a country, rather than a failed terror state. If they truly want a future that includes getting along with their neighbours, this is the way to go. Trump is wise to appeal directly to the Palestinian people and bypass their corrupt leaders. I am curious if "cutting all relations" also means refusing all those filthy imperialist US dollars they get...
They have been given billions of dollars over the past decades and what do they have to show for it? They are experts at squandering opportunities in a futile quest to turn back the clock. The pre-1967 borders will not happen. That's what happens when you launch a war of aggression and lose. Sometimes you lose land. Teaches you to not attack your neighbours.

Territorial acquisition by the victors of war is no longer allowed by international law and hasn't been since 1948.
But even if it were allowed, why should the inhabitants of Mandatory Palestine have their homes seized due to other independent states like Egypt, Syria and Jordan declaring and losing wars with Israel? The Palestinians had no control over these sovereign actors. The Palestinians never declared war on Israel and they could not, because, as Israel so often likes to remind us, there was no such thing as a Palestinian state.
Concerned Citizen
The Palestinian's Islamic 'brothers' in the ME, if they were concerned enough, could help by threatening to withhold oil supplies to Israel and the West until a fair settlement is accepted by Israel. 'No settlement, no oil!' But they won't.
Concerned Citizen
The Palestinians shouldn't have to receive any US aid. Thier mega rich Arab neighbours ought to have plenty to support them with. Shame on them for not doing more to help thier Palestinian brothers.

Exactly, exactly.

Zichi:
Those "millions of refugees" only exist because the Lebanon and Jordan (as well as the PA) refuse to give residence rights and citizenship to the original refugees and their descendents and keep them permanently in "refugee camps". Afaic, this is only case in the world where "refugee" is considered an inherited status passed on for unlimited number of generations. That is why the number of "refugees" there keeps increasing. If that is not pure politics I don´t know what is.
WilliB
zichi:
"The Palestinians" never declared war on Israel, because there never was a state called Palestine. So who was there to declare war??
The Arab states on the territory of Palestine (Syria, Jordan, Egypt) all did declare war on Israel.
Chip Star
Israel is an apartheid state.
SuperLib
Surely you're prefer to brag about Trump's great deals instead of saying Trump is the same as Obama.
bass4funk
Obama could have never pulled this off. Trump Winning once again! Lost count how many times he’s made another deal.
FizzBit
Very very odd, lots of valid negative comments about Israel (I prefer ethnonationalist state), but nothing about AIPAC?
FizzBit
Ha
its not a Union. And I think you’re underestimating it’s power structure
Wolfpack
Well when the minimum aspirations of Palestinians is to kill all of the Jews in region it’s a tough standard for Israel and the US to live up to.
bass4funk
Absolutely and factually, not true. If the PA rejects this proposal, that’s on them, but to say effort wasn’t made is dishonest and false. The PA don’t have to accept the new proposal, but this is as good as it gets and as long as Gaza keeps Hamas as their representative mouthpiece even this plan will not go forward.
