Safety has to trump profit. I have been hesitant to ride ferries in Asia while on vacation specifically for this reason. It just happens to often for my liking.

Safety has to trump profit.

An often easy choice in development countries to let profits prevail. Took that ferry 4 times in the past but in those days mainstream tourism just started to arrive.

Just use your common sense in the knowledge that traveling in those countries has a certain risk. Traveling by bus in Spain is also risky for the same reason.

Rock solid advice, for sure. Keeping your wits about you and having an informed sense of situational awareness goes a long way in places like Indo and the Philippines especially if you are going to use the local transportation. It's definitely not the scenario for happy optimism.

Sad that people died.

RE: tavel. Meh. It;s a large and beautiful world. It's not safe. Where I live (in the US) and in Indonesia. What am I gonna do? Hide inside all day? I don't think so.

I avoid three kinds of places and three kinds only:

Warzones

Epidemic zones

Brutal dictatorships
