Amazing, the very first paragraph identifies this shooting as yet another by a man or incel motivated by lack of success with women, but then the article tries to shift to gun control. I guess it’s easier to blame guns than the deep societal issues.

NRA should come up with a dating law to keep the kids access firearms.

Guns and a hatred of women. A potent and tragic combination.

Thomson Reuters screwed up their headline. Saying rejection "provoked" Pagourtzis implies that blame for the shooting should be put on the murdered girl for rejecting him. This is a fairly frequent mistake from the big newspaper publishers, who treat these misogynistic murderers' explanations of why they committed murder as though those explanations were legitimate.

I wonder if back in the day when the press was covering David Berkowitz's murders, did anyone run the headline, "Dog orders man to kill"? No? We all agree that's absurd? Good. So if we agree it's absurd to blame a murderer's actions on their neighbor's dog, why does the press not think it's absurd to blame a murderer's actions on the girl that would not make sexy times with them?

Every society has deep societal issues - not one can escape this fundamental human flaw

Not every society has the same levels of access to weapons of mass destruction

I guess it's easier to blame deep societal issues instead of accepting it's a combination of both.

It's not a shift to talk about gun control in a shooting story.

I guess it’s easier to blame guns than the deep societal issues.

Deep societal issues are by name deeply ingrained in society. It's easy to blame violent culture, mental health issues, and lack of social skills, but there are no simple solutions to them. That doesn't mean we shouldn't and aren't dealing with those issues, but it's ridiculous to ignore guns as the other key component of the problem.

Guns are comparatively easier to deal with the above issues. There's clear and immediate actions we can take that would produce concrete results, and we have supporting evidence of success in places like Australia.

It's a matter of politicians in the US having the courage to stand up to gun manufacturers and their voter base, and their voter base giving up some of their toys and convenient access to them. I admit courage and sacrifice are increasingly in short supply these days, but I think it's still a more tangible problem that can be dealt with than ensuring romantic success for all men without social skills.

The gun made it easy for him to act out on his rejection and kill more people. The barrier to kill is very low if you have a gun.

I bet the father of the killer wishes he never had a gun.

At the very least, the government and NRA should ensure that guns are locked up so that kids can't just take them so easily. For example, most states have a dangerous instrumentality law that will hold the owner of a dangerous thing (car, weapon, animal) responsible even if someone else uses that thing.

And Trump the coward, as usual, is too scared of the NRA to do anything.

What is the responsibility of legal gun owners for the storage of their firearms?

My father was keeping things he thought shouldn't be touched by kids under lock. Are there any parents sued for negligent behavior resulting in death?

I believe they are investigated. You don't really hear much follow-up.

It's not though. Many societies have misogynists. Many societies have angry, frustrated incels. Only one society has angry, frustrated incels and misogynists who decide the best way to deal with their rejection is to gun down the woman they like and 9 other people.

Have the boy's parents been arrested for not properly controlling access to both firearms?
