And another Donnie scam is uncovered - everything agreed to 3 months ago - so Donnie manufactures his tariff threat to make it look like he had a "win" - really, this is elementary school stuff. Mattis pegged it on the money when he said he had the understanding of a fifth or sixth grader.

How much insecurity and lack of confidence do you have to have to manufacture a grade school level con job that is so easy to see through.

What a Loser...

Donnie knew that Repubs in the Senate were not going to go down the tariff road with him on Mexico, so he had to do something to show he didn't "lose"...

So he makes up a grade school level scam to place tariffs on Mexico at a future date, knowing all along that everything had been agreed to 3 months earlier, and the tariffs would never be enacted.

And he thinks people will fall for this con job - and he's right, no doubt they'll be Trumpers here who marvel at his "4D chess"...

This is the same intellect that said; "I'll dictate a statement that says the meeting at Trump Tower with Russians was about adoptions"...as if no one would see thru that lie...

Tillertson, Kelly, McMaster, Cohn, Mattis, et al sure had it right - this guy is an idiot and a moron with the understanding of a fifth grader...

Translation: the next time I need to divert attention from my administration’s failings I’ll reignite the border crisis.

Trump did not elaborate and the White House and State Department did not immediately respond to requests for comment.

The LEAST transparent president and administration in modern history.

No surprise that the most dishonest president in modern history has surrounded himself with sycophants willing to cover up and lie for him.

No surprise Trump's attracted so many followers with the same disregard for truth, people also willing to swallow and then parrot his lies.

No surprise that Trump and his staffers constantly attack the free, for-profit media outlets that question his veracity.

How soon until Trump's press sectretary's 'tongue slips' with one more set of lies and alt facts believed only by the Trump faithful.

Thanks a lot, Democrats.

Democrats didn't kill immigration reform bills in 2013 that would have strengthened border security.

Oh my:

Since I know how arduous googling is, I did it for you:

—Under current law, U.S. citizens can sponsor spouses, children and siblings to come to the U.S., with limits on some categories. The bill would bar citizens from sponsoring their siblings and would allow them to sponsor married sons and daughters only if those children are under age 31.

—The bill would eliminate the government's Diversity Visa Lottery Program, which randomly awards 55,000 visas to immigrants from countries with historically low rates of immigration to the United States, so that more visas can be awarded for employment and merit ties.

(1) Roughly doubling the number of Border Patrol agents stationed along the U.S.-Mexico border, to at least 38,405

(2) Completing 700 miles of pedestrian fencing along the border, which would require approximately 350 new miles of fencing.

(3) Installing a host of new security measures and technologies in specified locations along the border, including specific numbers of surveillance towers, camera systems, ground sensors, radiation detectors, mobile surveillance systems, drones, helicopters, airborne radar systems, planes and ships.

(4) Implementing a system for all employers to verify electronically their workers' legal status.

(5) Setting up a new electronic system to track people leaving the nation's airports and seaports.

The issue here is we now know that Mexico agreed to very little that they hadn't agreed to before. This was simply Donny creating a problem where one hadn't existed.

4 ( +9 / -5 )

Senate Democratic leader Chuck Schumer also said there appeared to be little new in the deal

Chip Star seems to think the Democrats have done more than enough to promote border security.

By the way, it could be me, but what have the Democrats done since being in power to curtail illegal border crossings?

By the way, why did Trump, McConnell and Ryan do absolutely nothing for two years when they had all the power and executive authority to do anything they wanted? Why no funding? Why no "wall"? Why two years of nothing WRT the border?

If that be the case, why do we have a crisis at our border? Oh, that's right, Orange Man has been impeding their efforts to secure the border! All right, let's impeach him! But Nancy Pelosi is stonewalling on this. Why??

With each passing day the Democrats are creating a larger bullseye on their back with allowing this crisis to continue.

Someone is forgetting who is President and the Chief Executive (I'd like to forget too) - if there's any failure, it belongs to Donnie.

Speaking of blame, darn shame about those poor wage and job growth numbers - but what can you expect when you have an Apprentice trying to run the economy...

They still needed Democrat votes.

No they didn't. Let's keep things real here, and wait a few posts to start making up fantasy.

The pubs held both houses, and the presidency. The number of Democratic votes needed: 0.

No, the reason is because the Republicans have a secret open-borders policy. If you ignore what they say, and look at their actions... well if actions speak louder than words, their open-borders policy is deafening. They held both houses for the end of the Obama presidency - and refused to vote on bipartisan immigration legislation. Then Trump became president, and they kept both houses, and still refused to pass any legislation for two years.

Now they'd have us be stupid enough to believe the lies they tell us, that clearly are out of line with the truth of their actions.

But of course they think we'd be stupid enough to believe the lies, because they were stupid enough to believe the lies.

Words: "We believe in strong immigration. It's the Democrats fault!"

Actions: No legislation, when they had all the power, including bipartisan support. Nothing. Nada. Zilch.

3 ( +4 / -1 )

Because the compromise wasn’t there

No compromise was necessary. The pubs held both houses, as well as the presidency. Required number of Democratic votes necessary for the Republicans to pass any legislation they wanted? Zero.

Because the pubs have an open-border policy that they try to pretend they don't have, and think we're stupid enough to believe spoken lies over clear actions simply because they are

3 ( +4 / -1 )

Oh, but they did. They just couldn’t come up with a proper bill where some Republicans didn’t want to reward law breakers.

Exactly. Republicans blocked the immigration legislation. They needed zero democratic votes to pass their legislation, but their open-border policy caused Republicans to block it.

No, because there isn’t anything that you can point or show with Republicans say that they want open borders

Of course not - they aren't stupid enough to say it out loud.

I can't point to them admitting it, but the facts are there:

The Republican party refused to pass bipartisan border legislation, even though they not only needed zero Democratic votes, they actually had some Democratic votes, as it was bipartisan. They refused to vote on it. Then they had the white house, and all of Congress, and they refused to pass border legislation. Instead, they decided to hold off for two years, so that when the Democrats won the house, they could try to blame it on the Democrats, even though they refused to do it for two years when they needed zero Democrat votes.

You can blab on all you want with the words that convinced you to believe the lies, but the rest of us see the Republican party actions clearly, and their open-borders policy is being screamed out through their actions.

3 ( +4 / -1 )

I would beg to disagree on a multitude of reasons

List the reasons.

The Republicans killed a horrible bill that would have never stopped catch and release, birthright citizenship and sealed the border. No way they were going to support it.

Do we really need to go over this again? I thought you'd have had enough after Saturday night/Sunday morning. See my 7:51 post for details that refute your claims.

Chip Star seems to think the Democrats have done more than enough to promote border security.

See my 7:51 post for details on what democrats tried to do to seal the border in 2013, but republicans killed.

If that be the case, why do we have a crisis at our border?

Because republicans killed two bills in 2013 that would have strengthened the border.

By the way, it could be me, but what have the Democrats done since being in power to curtail illegal border crossings?

By the way, what did republicans do to curtail illegal border crossings when they controlled all three branches of government?

2 ( +3 / -1 )

There is no "hard-and-fast definition" of the phrase,[2] which is pejorative.[5][6] Rather, the phrase refers to a "collection of policies, court precedents, executive actions and federal statutes spanning more than 20 years, cobbled together throughout Democratic and Republican administrations."

2 ( +3 / -1 )

It’s only a failure if you believe their lies that they want border security. If you look at their actions, it’s clear they’ve been particularly successful and blocking any immigration legislation.

2 ( +3 / -1 )

By the way, why did Trump, McConnell and Ryan do absolutely nothing for two years when they had all the power and executive authority to do anything they wanted?

They still needed Democrat votes.

False - they could have used the reconciliation process for a simple majority like they have used in the past - they didn't. Why? Even if they decided not to do that, then they could have used defense funds like they're doing now - but they didn't. Why? Just admit it, the Repubs did nothing on immigration for two whole years. Why?

Someone is forgetting who is President and the Chief Executive (I'd like to forget too) - if there's any failure, it belongs to Donnie.

Ok, so what are the Democrats doing to prove they can handle the border crisis better? What improvements have they’ve done or actions did they take to improve the border crossings? Take your time.

"OK"- good, thanks for agreeing with me. Trump gets the blame.

Speaking of blame, darn shame about those poor wage and job growth numbers - but what can you expect when you have an Apprentice trying to run the economy...

I would say with over 17 months of straight economic growth and now with the tariffs in China looming, its to be expected. But with the tax cuts, that’ll bounce back once the tariff situation is settled.

With the Apprentice leading things, how do you know that tariffs will be settled? Maybe like with Mexico, there is already a deal done and Donnie just wants to grandstand with a con-job...all while farmers, and steel and construction workers suffer.

1 ( +3 / -2 )

On June 21 a hardline conservative immigration bill introduced by Rep. Bob Goodlatte (R-VA), which would have drastically cut the nation’s legal immigration levels and provided an extension of the Obama-era Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program, failed as well. All Democrats and 41 Republicans voted against that bill.

So now it the Dems fault that 41 republicans voted against a bill. Too funny.

1 ( +2 / -1 )

So it was either Mexico is tariffed and even more jobs come back to the U.S. or our border with Mexico is secure on both sides. It’s a win win. Trump is indeed a stable genius!

Jobs staying in Mexico is a win?

Now that youvrhubk the border is secure, I trust we won't hear from you again about the need for a wall.

0 ( +2 / -2 )

It’s only a failure if you believe their lies that they want border security. If you look at their actions, it’s clear they’ve been particularly successful and blocking any immigration legislation.

Absolutely true. The only time Repubs care about immigration is when they have a scandal and they need to divert attention, or they see a need to scare and inflame their bamboozled supporters - "It's the caravans from hell with rapists, MS-13, and Obama supporters". And they fall for it...

I know one so-called Repub resort owner who is definitely for open borders as he uses cheap illegal immigrant labor at his hotels and golf courses.

Repubs could have passed bills to secure the border with just their majorities in both Houses for two years under reconciliation, but they didn't. And the Great Orange Illegal Immigrant Employer never said one word.

Border Security - the Repubs are missing in action...and if there's a problem now, it's due to their inaction for over two years.

0 ( +2 / -2 )

What obligation goes Mexico have to keep these people within their borders and stop them from reaching the US? They want to go to the US, not Mexico. They are not Mexicans, so why would Mexico be obligated to forcefully keep them within their borders, or turn them back? I guess they could turn them back, but that's not going to stop them, they will just start using more dangerous routes to reach America, just like EU countries trying to stop the migrants from entering their countries through the land boarder is only making them start using boats through the sea, which results in countless deaths. Same will happen in America if they can't use the land route.

If anyone has an obligation to help them, it's the US, since they are the primary reason why these countries are in mess to begin with. US war on drugs and mass demand for drugs is what creates and maintains the drug carters in these countries. On top of that, the wars and regime changes in these countries further destabilized them. They want to go to the US, they are not going to file for asylum in Mexico. Building a wall or bulling Mexico into stopping them is not going to solve the problem, it might even make it worse. There are other ways of dealing with the problem.

-1 ( +3 / -4 )

Waste of time, trump has to stop wasting time.

-2 ( +0 / -2 )

False - they could have used the reconciliation process for a simple majority like they have used in the past - they didn't. Why?

I already outlined that critical point.

"OK"- good, thanks for agreeing with me.

With the Apprentice leading things, how do you know that tariffs will be settled?

I never said, it was 100% guarantee, I said, it will get them moving and because Trump is so unpredictable, Mexico can’t afford to lose the 3 billion it makes off of remittances, that would kill them. At this point and stay with me, relax. Trump really doesn’t have a lot of options, the Dems could care less, they care only about the Hispanic vote, the Republicans are paranoid about losing seats, so I think this is the best way. Personally, i could care less how the Mexican government feels, This is a sticking point for me with them for a long time.

No they didn't. Let's keep things real here, and wait a few posts to start making up fantasy.

Yes, let’s keep it real, just try, please.

The pubs held both houses, and the presidency. The number of Democratic votes needed: 0.

Schumer also briefly offered to deliver the Democratic votes to fully fund the border wall at $25 billion in exchange for a pathway to citizenship for Dreamers. The January 2018 deal quickly fell apart amid a government shutdown, criticism from Democratic and Republican bases and Trump's insistence on adding legal immigration reform onto the deal.

No, the reason is because the Republicans have a secret open-borders policy.

They did not, they never did, the GOP always advocated for strong borders and border security and the Democrats are doing now what exactly, be specific, please.

https://www.wsj.com/articles/shutdown-has-been-a-year-in-the-making-11547498818

Bipartisan Senate proposal: In February 2018, a bipartisan group of senators hashed out a compromise proposal that would have provided $25 billion for border security over 10 years, starting with a $2.5 billion installment last year.

It would also have enabled about 1.8 million young immigrants to become citizens over a 10-to-12-year timeline, but it sought to bar them from sponsoring their parents from citizenship. Lawmakers believed it could have passed the GOP-held Senate had Mr. Trump endorsed it, but he opposed it, saying it didn’t do enough to curb legal immigration. The measure then failed in the Senate in a 54-45 vote.

But of course they think we'd be stupid enough to believe the lies, because they were stupid enough to believe the lies.

Not really the lies that were coming from the Democrats were the lies that this is a party that cares for them and it never has and California, my home state is a testimony of that. Drive around and you’ll see, the Democrats could care less about any of these people EXCEPT when it comes time to vote, then they are their best friends, so basically every election cycle.

Actions: No legislation, when they had all the power, including bipartisan support. Nothing. Nada. Zilch.

Because the compromise wasn’t there and the divide on why reward people that broke the law which I happen to agree with.

List the reasons.

IRS scandal, Benghazi, fast and furious, Obamacare “if you like your doctor, you can keep him” VA waiting list scandal, secret spying on James Rosen, taking out Republican donors in 2012 and on and on...

Do we really need to go over this again?

No, but you you guys get it wrong every single time.

Because republicans killed two bills in 2013 that would have strengthened the border.

The Republicans killed a horrible bill that would have never stopped catch and release, birthright citizenship and sealed the border. No way they were going to support it, it was just a non-starter.

-4 ( +1 / -5 )

But if you expect us to accept your criticism of that has having any validity after two years of Trump bleating falsehoods like he figures the economy runs on them, you're going to be waiting a loooooooong time.

Oh, I doubt that.

-5 ( +1 / -6 )

No compromise was necessary. The pubs held both houses, as well as the presidency. Required number of Democratic votes necessary for the Republicans to pass any legislation they wantedZero.

Oh, but they did. They just couldn’t come up with a proper bill where some Republicans didn’t want to reward law breakers.

Which was unacceptable to Democrats as it meant it would cut immigration levels and the Republicans didn’t want to reward ANY DACA recipient for breaking the law

The Republican “compromise” immigration bill included a litany of a conservative policy proposals, modeled after the White House’s demands. It would have given DACA-eligible immigrants temporary legal status for six years, after which they could apply for — but would not be guaranteed — a green card.

The bill also called for granting $25 billion in funds for a southern border wall, making it more difficult for migrants to seek asylum, and allowing families to be detained indefinitely at the border in response to the Trump administration’s “zero-tolerance” family separation policy. It also included provisions that would have significantly cut legal immigration levels.

Though the bill was originally aimed at solving the DREAMer problem, one analysis from the Libertarian think tank CATO projected that only 420,000 DREAMers would actually benefit from the bill’s “path to citizenship” — far fewer than the estimated 1.8 million DACA-eligible immigrants living in the US.

This was mainly the problem you had one group of Republicans that basically filled this should concede to the Democrats will allow for the DACA recipients to remain and the other group A republican state self that they should not be rewarded and should earn their way towards citizenship.

Because the pubs have an open-border policy that they try to pretend they don't have, and think we're stupid enough to believe spoken lies over clear actions simply because they are.

No, because there isn’t anything that you can point or show with Republicans say that they want open borders, because if they did they would be so feverishly trying everything in their power to stop flow of illegal immigration and what are the Democrats doing right now specifically to stop this?

-5 ( +1 / -6 )

The true purpose of tariff threat to Mexico was not the issue of unfair trade between the two countries but to let Mexico strengthen their border controls so that illegal immigrants from mid-American countries do not enter U.S. via Mexico. Somebody suggested the idea to Trump. It was a smart move.  Mexico is necessary for U.S. economy. They will come to a good agreement as Trump says.

-6 ( +2 / -8 )

Chip Star - The issue here is we now know that Mexico agreed to very little that they hadn't agreed to before. This was simply Donny creating a problem where one hadn't existed.

Amazing. They say more details will be released soon, meaning that all of the details are not now known, and you're claiming that a non-existent "we" know that Mexico agreed to very little that they hadn't agreed to before. It doesn't seem possible for you to know all of the details when all of the details haven't been released yet.
